Aibu to think private school kids wearing their logoed school jumpers at the weekend is weird?

Isn’t it a bizarre stealth boast, except it’s not stealthy at all and a bit attention seeking? I know several children who do this. If your child does, why?

You’d never catch a state educated child wearing their school jumper at the weekend. If my child started to, I’d suggest they changed.

You sure they haven't been at weekend school?

StrongerThanIThought76 · 02/09/2019 22:50

They're probably at school on Saturday, simple.

EskewedBeef · 02/09/2019 22:50

I've never seen this, and we're close to two large private schools. If you know these kids, you can ask them if they've been at a school event or just wearing them for fun.

WhyBirdStop · 02/09/2019 22:51

You sure they haven't been at weekend school?
This.
All the local fee paying schools here have Saturday morning school, and often sports on a Saturday afternoon.

FrenchSchnoodle · 02/09/2019 22:51

Seriously? As others have said ... Saturday school.

snop · 02/09/2019 22:51

Maybe representing the school doing some sort of activity

YobaOljazUwaque · 02/09/2019 22:52

You do know some private schools have lessons on Saturday mornings and require attendance at chapel in uniform on Sunday mornings? They probably aren't doing it to boast.

Bringonspring · 02/09/2019 22:52

Probably at Saturday school. I’m not sure any child opts to wear their school uniform and to be honest for most parents at private school (myself included) there isn’t the slightest inclination to ‘show off’ bound to be a couple but very much in the minority

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 02/09/2019 22:53

All the private school around me have to go to school on a Saturday. Sure they wouldn’t wear it for any other reason.

mamaoffourdc · 02/09/2019 22:53

Yep Saturday school

Shouldbedoing · 02/09/2019 22:54

I was a boarder and we had to wear uniform to town despite the unpleasant comments it triggered. Made it impossible to buy booze though! Sixth formers wore casuals

ToPlanZ · 02/09/2019 22:54

Well we had Saturday morning school and if we went out of school on Saturday afternoon we were obliged to go in uniform. So no, it wasn't a stealth boast when I was in school

MoreThanImFeeling · 02/09/2019 22:57

Dd wears her state school hoodie with her name on the back and the school trip it was bought for everywhere - she loves it! I would never have been seen dead wearing anything from school.

jesuschristwtf · 02/09/2019 22:59

Urghhh another private school bashing thread you’re hoping to start OP? Saturday school - ever heard of it?

Excited101 · 02/09/2019 23:00

I live in a very prosperous area and work in the field and have never seen this.

hawleybits · 02/09/2019 23:01

Often it's because they will actually have been in school, usually for sports or activities. DS used to wear his hoodie because it was really nice and warm.

Oakmaiden · 02/09/2019 23:02

My niece went to a party this weekend wearing her school (leavers) jumper. Which to the casual glance was identical to a normal school jumper.

She goes to a state school.

BobTheFishermansWife · 02/09/2019 23:03

Where I live one of the elite state schools is linked to the cathedral, on Sundays the children that are in the choir, and for rehearsals in school holidays, it is compulsory they attend in school uniform. I think it looks smart.

LadyGAgain · 02/09/2019 23:06

If I'd just forked out £300 on new uniform annually I'd be encouraging them to get my money's worth that's for sure

Yabbers · 02/09/2019 23:09

You’d never catch a state educated child wearing their school jumper at the weekend. If my child started to, I’d suggest they changed.

Kids round by us wear their leavers hoodies more out of school than in school.

LuciferTheCat · 02/09/2019 23:11

My DNiece is in private school and my DD is in a state school. Both comprehensive and both schools when they go on trips abroad they have hoodies that have the school logo, trip (Austria 2019 for example) and their names and they both wear their jumpers outside of school

ranibowsprimkle · 02/09/2019 23:14

As pps have said many private schools have classes at weekends or require pupils to attended church or extra curriculars at the weekends so that's probably why they're wearing them.

That being said a lot of the pupils from one of my local state schools often wear logo-ed t- shirts and hoodies from school shows, trips and sports events at the weekends and over holidays.

Butchyrestingface · 02/09/2019 23:19

Every day’s a school day, OP! Grin

Chalfontstgiles · 02/09/2019 23:46

Sorry my DD does this. It's because she can't be arsed to think about what else to wear and she finds the trackys comfy. She's not an attention seeker but I'm interested to read that perception. If she went state school I'm sure 100% she'd definitely do the same.

littleorangecat22 · 02/09/2019 23:46

Saturday school?!

I hope that's optional.
