To wonder what is more terrifying to the public of Mumsnet, Corbyn or Brexit Fallout?

So either way we look we seem to have poor prospects.

Potential fears from either side...
Brexit = potential food shortages, medicine shortages, increase of house burglaries, riots, looting, at least half the jobs gone, pound becoming worthless, NHS collapse, economy going down etc.

Corbyn = land value tax, communist, everyone losing their property, house prices crashing, economy going down, etc

I'm not saying I believe either of these things exactly, although I think we will be facing an economy worse than the fall of 2008 after Brexit. I'm more curious as to what people here think.

So to the haters who will say "Another Brexit thread blah blah blah". No one made you click! Stop trying to silence the critics.

Anyways for voting purposes, what is more worrisome to you?

YANBU = the fallout from a BJ led No Deal Brexit
YABU = Jeremy Corbyn in charge

I wish Corbyn would just fuck off. I very much doubt he would win an election if we had one and it's an election we all desperately need a strong Labour Party to win.

TheClitterati · 01/09/2019 19:47

Anyone else reading Mumsnet ad the third potential more terrifying option? 🤣🤣

Blibbyblobby · 01/09/2019 19:52

I am genuinely amazed that so many people think Corbyn will damage the economy more than dismantling 40 years' worth of trading agreements and the associated infrastructure.

Brexit will absolutely be worse for the economy in the short and long term than a Corbyn government.

5 years into a Corbyn government and you can vote him out again. 5 years into Brexit we won't even have hit the bottom yet and there is no reset button.

Just to restate that : 5 years into a Corbyn government and you can vote him out again, because that is what democracy really means. It's not, and never should be, a one time only offer.

Autumnintheair · 01/09/2019 20:06

Langdale, why mention jrm etc eton backgrounds as an excuse as to why they won't care, when corbyn himself was raised in splendour.

People say... We can get rid of corbyn and yet... Inspite of huge manoeuvre inside labour party, splitting etc etc etc... Dear leader is still there.

Blibbyblobby · 01/09/2019 20:17

Anyone else reading Mumsnet ad the third potential more terrifying option?

Grin

Fuck it, we can't be any worse that the other two options.

Mumocracy - government fit for the 21st century!

Economy rebalanced based on term time only employment
ISO standard for towel-washing
"AIBU to veto chlorinated chickens in the UK/US trade deal?"

IAmALazyArse · 01/09/2019 20:18

Both.
I strongly believe Corbyn would go through with Brexit anyway.

berlinbabylon · 01/09/2019 20:19

Brexit. Undoubtedly. Whatever you think of Corbyn, he could be voted out at the next election. We're going to be stuck with Brexit Indeed.

beccarocksbaby · 01/09/2019 20:43

Both.
I strongly believe Corbyn would go through with Brexit anyway.

He's been anti Europe for a long time. He wants Brexit. Hence the wishy washy defence. He's not representing his party members at all

londonrach · 01/09/2019 20:46

Corbyn

MorrisZapp · 01/09/2019 20:46

Say what you like about Tony Blair, he had proper grown ups in his cabinet. They had names, careers, personalities and a degree of integrity.

I have no idea who's in Corbyns cabinet. They're nobody. Bunch of suits.

greentheme23 · 01/09/2019 20:47

Right wing fascist Mumsnetters continue to bleat on.

MadisonAvenue · 01/09/2019 20:48

Corbyn, without a doubt.

Bluntness100 · 01/09/2019 20:48

This is loose loose. Both are terrifying prospects.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 01/09/2019 20:50

blibbyblobby's post is spot on.

This thread is one of the most bonkers I've read recently. The Overton Window has shifted so far right in this country over the last couple of years, it really is scary.

I really do despair for what we have become, and where we are going to end up.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/09/2019 20:53

Plague or plague?

But how come Corbyn is suddenly all anti -Brexit? Has he picked out all the splinters from his arse?

fergusthefrog · 01/09/2019 20:55

Corbyn and his mates, without a doubt. I don't even know where to begin but there's very little I can say about him that's positive

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/09/2019 20:57

I' really scared we'll end up with No Deal Brexit and Corbyn.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 01/09/2019 20:57

I don't even know where to begin but there's very little I can say about him that's positive

So I assume that means you do have several positive things to say about Brexit, fergus? What are they?

IceCreamConewithaflake · 01/09/2019 20:57

Corbyn

IAmALazyArse · 01/09/2019 21:10

But how come Corbyn is suddenly all anti -Brexit?
Afaik he is not anti Brexit. He is apparently anti no deal.
Imho he is just looking to get his arse in no 10 before retirement even if only for few months. He is not the only one though.

@beccarocksbaby I missed "bad" in there Blush
"I strongly believe Corbyn would go through with bad Brexit anyway."

Graphista · 01/09/2019 21:13

"destroy our country and take it back to the 70s

Pretty much what I’m expecting Brexit to do tbh." Yes interesting that! Brexiters happy to go back to "pre eu times" if it's BECAUSE of brexit - apparently then it's a "good thing" 🤔

HermanHessesCat - exactly! Great post! I certainly remember when many parts of our infrastructure were nationally owned rather than privately, no it wasn't perfect but it WAS better than now! Cheaper, better run.

"Johnson doesn't care what happens to the ordinary citizen because he's never been in a low-paid job, living in a council house, trying to survive to make ends meet." This is true of most tories - I am utterly bewildered at working class people voting Tory

TheClitterati · 01/09/2019 21:18

Problem is Corbyn has not convinced anyone that he wouldn't Brexit. I'm not even convinced he wouldn't hard Brexit especially after he finds himself in the same position (if elected) of brining unable to get the WA through Parliament.

I'd have to be convinced they would bring a 2nd vote on Brexit before I'd even consider voting Labour again & I've always voted labour.

I'd absolutely want labour to confirm what a woman is before I'd vote for them.

Let's get MN in charge.

Krisskrosskiss · 01/09/2019 21:22

Brexit.. well more importantly the tories... they are set to dismantle so much that we hold dear in this country. I worked for the NHS and my husband still does and its terrifying.
I'd take Corbyn over that any day... I'd prefer to remain in the eu but I'm not so bothered about that as I am about the tories being given free reign... which they will be if we leave the eu.
I'd not mind brexit so much if Labour were in government.

Lumene · 01/09/2019 21:24

It’s not either or though is it. Corbyn wants Brexit too.

So it’s Brexit AND Corbyn or just Brexit.

I’ll go for the second.

Krisskrosskiss · 01/09/2019 21:29

Corbyn doesnt like the eu and its neoliberalism.. but he has repeatedly clearly stated that he personally voted remain and would do so again given the opportunity because the uk is not in a good position to leave the eu right now, it would effect vulnerable peoples standards of living... the papers have gone to town on trying to make it look confusing but if you read what hes actually said it's not that confusing at all. He doesnt like some things about the EU but hes far from being a brexiteer.
I should add though that he did say it would be a free vote within the labour party meaning he wouldnt try and force mps to back remain. . And there are a few ardent brexiteers in the labour party.
