To wonder what is more terrifying to the public of Mumsnet, Corbyn or Brexit Fallout?

So either way we look we seem to have poor prospects.

Potential fears from either side...
Brexit = potential food shortages, medicine shortages, increase of house burglaries, riots, looting, at least half the jobs gone, pound becoming worthless, NHS collapse, economy going down etc.

Corbyn = land value tax, communist, everyone losing their property, house prices crashing, economy going down, etc

I'm not saying I believe either of these things exactly, although I think we will be facing an economy worse than the fall of 2008 after Brexit. I'm more curious as to what people here think.

So to the haters who will say "Another Brexit thread blah blah blah". No one made you click! Stop trying to silence the critics.

Anyways for voting purposes, what is more worrisome to you?

YANBU = the fallout from a BJ led No Deal Brexit
YABU = Jeremy Corbyn in charge

Nornironrock seconding Bertrand and Alsohuman on this.

What makes you think we don't know who they are? What makes you think they're dangerous more dangerous than a no deal brexit?

BertrandRussell · 05/09/2019 10:18

Are you there, @nornironrock?

BertrandRussell · 05/09/2019 10:39

Do you think @nornironrock has been whisked off to a gulag?

nornironrock · 05/09/2019 10:55

I've found it's pretty much a waste of time debating with Corbynistas regarding their Dear Leader.

I'll simply say:
Anti-Semitism
Northern Ireland
Marxism
Lauding of Hamas
Mates with terrorists
Lauding of Mao
Venezuela support

Oh, and also, I like to keep some of my salary each month. And I like to invest for the future. And I believe that I should choose what happens to my stuff and money after my death. I also believe in the United Kingdom.

Corbynistas regarding their Dear Leader

Most people aren’t Corbyn supporters

They just like people to back up their argument

Weird i know

Alsohuman · 05/09/2019 11:58

I believe in all those things @nornironrock. I’m not a Corbynista. I don’t like him much but he’s a lot less terrifying than Johnson, who has proved himself to be a ruthless dictator in the last week.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 05/09/2019 11:59

@nornironrock I'd also add the treatment of women - his women's officer appointment rang that death knell loud & clear.

nornironrock · 05/09/2019 12:00

@alsohuman - the last time I checked, ruthless dictators weren't in the business of offering general elections. Corbyn is now the first ever leader of the opposition to refuse one. After screaming for it for years.

I'm no fan of Johnson, but the simple fact of the matter is that our current parliament is unwilling to leave the EU, and will never vote to do so. We need a GE now.

Alsohuman · 05/09/2019 12:01

And we’ll get a GE once it’s ensured we can’t crash out of the EU without a deal.

Seahorseshoe · 05/09/2019 12:15

Corbyn. Heaven forbid he ever gets power.

Seahorseshoe · 05/09/2019 12:16

..,. And I say that as a long time labour voting, working class, remainer. The man is an idiot.

Graphista · 05/09/2019 12:19

"I've found it's pretty much a waste of time debating with Corbynistas" aka "I'm not winning the debate so I'm quitting after throwing out debunked/ill founded/poorly reported criticism of the man"

"I'll simply say:

Anti-Semitism - you think the tories aren't anti-Semitic? They have HUGE problems with all kinds of bigotry and racism - Jesus just look at who's pm!

Northern Ireland - again you think the tories give a stuff about Northern Ireland?

Marxism - do you actually know anything about Marxism? I mean beyond what is in the daily fail or sun or similar? Do you understand that any good politician understands and has good knowledge of ALL political systems and that ALL political systems have good elements to them? That often it's the implementation and control that's at fault?

Lauding of Hamas - again if you think tories don't have equally if not worse connections you're wrong. The situation in the Middle East is incredibly complex. Nobody reasonable supports terrorist action but communicating with extremists is sometimes necessary to reduce these - even the tories have done so!

Mates with terrorists - friends? Really? Having meetings with certain factions to try and achieve peaceful solutions - which AGAIN the tories have also done is not necessarily a "bad thing" in addition the tories aren't just "mates" with certain extreme organisations/representatives they give them state dinners and sell bloody arms to them!

Lauding of Mao - in what way? Because again I suspect it's not really lauding of Mao but acknowledging that even despots occasionally have good ideas/intentions. He absolutely criticises the human rights atrocities and environmental destruction caused by China but has commented on an improved economy in China since the end of WWII

Venezuela support - as Mao point, what has he really said on this? As far as I can tell he has cautioned against excessive outside interference particularly from the USA (who plain don't like ANYTHING socialist as a nation and like to throw their weight around and stir up more trouble) and said that cool heads are needed to resolve the issues there. He has criticised all the violence and human rights abused occurring there. I don't necessarily agree with other comments made on the subject but to use this as a reason to be "terrified" of Corbyn is nonsense, we simply don't have anything like similar circumstances here for starters.

I'm actually not a particular fan of him myself I'm just sick of people making out the likes of bloody Johnson are better!!

ZaZathecat · 05/09/2019 15:53

I don't see why we have to choose between Corbyn or ND Brexit. If all remainers voted for the LibDems we'd be home and dry.

MrPan · 05/09/2019 15:59

Agree ZaZa - unless there is a massive change, I'll be voting Lib Dem, if only tactically.

ZaZathecat · 05/09/2019 17:30

Glad to hear it Mr Pan. If every person I've heard say "I can't stand the Tories but could never vote for Corbyn" just switched to LibDem I reckon there'd be a landslide!

Buddywoo · 05/09/2019 17:34

I will be voting Lib Dem but am in a safe Tory seat. If I were in a marginal I would vote Labour.

I don't like Corbyn but would rather have 4/5 years of his Labour party than be out of the EU permanently. He will give us a final say referendum with remain on the ballot paper.

Whatsername7 · 05/09/2019 17:37

There is an alternative....vote Lib Dem!

ZaZathecat · 05/09/2019 17:39

Mine is also a 'safe' Tory seat - until today anyway! One of the high profile casualties of yesterday's debacle was my local MP.

noodlenosefraggle · 06/09/2019 15:05

I agree buddy I'm in a Tory marginal so will vote Labour. If they do win, they will be unlikely to get a majority so won't be able to enact many of their policies and even in coalition could be gone in 5 years if they cock it up that badly. Their most likely coalition partner is the SNP and they will push to remain or go for the softest of Brexit, no matter what the front bench and Len McClusky wants.

Supernova69 · 20/12/2019 13:23

Ha-ha-ha! Well who's laughing now? Me at you bunch of losers. A pity your Marxist anti-Semite terrorist sympathiser god lost the election and that you will now have to suffer under Boris and Tory rule. Oh and don't let me forget the double whammy of having to leave the EU too. Ha f'in ha! Should give you bunch of cliquey Islington left-tard up your own rear stay at home breeder type fools something to chat about other than watching Doctors or baking while your husbands are knocking off the secretary at work, even if it is the usual nonsensical vitriol you spout. Some moments are priceless and this is one that I am savouring. Thanks and enjoy. And AIBU? NO you bl00dy deserved what was coming to you! LOL!
