To wonder what is more terrifying to the public of Mumsnet, Corbyn or Brexit Fallout?

So either way we look we seem to have poor prospects.

Potential fears from either side...
Brexit = potential food shortages, medicine shortages, increase of house burglaries, riots, looting, at least half the jobs gone, pound becoming worthless, NHS collapse, economy going down etc.

Corbyn = land value tax, communist, everyone losing their property, house prices crashing, economy going down, etc

I'm not saying I believe either of these things exactly, although I think we will be facing an economy worse than the fall of 2008 after Brexit. I'm more curious as to what people here think.

So to the haters who will say "Another Brexit thread blah blah blah". No one made you click! Stop trying to silence the critics.

Anyways for voting purposes, what is more worrisome to you?

YANBU = the fallout from a BJ led No Deal Brexit
YABU = Jeremy Corbyn in charge

Corbyn wouldn’t have the majorities he needs for those kinds of policies. I don’t worry about him being in power at all. At worst he’d just be ineffective.

DdraigGoch · 01/09/2019 18:41

Corbyn. No question.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 01/09/2019 18:41

Corbyn is temporary. Brexit is not. It's a no brain choice for me, though unfortunately this MN vote is not going to change anything.

AgeLikeWine · 01/09/2019 18:43

Would madam prefer the electric chair or the noose?

Two equally horrific prospects. Can’t that nice, sensible, competent Mr Obama come and run our country for us? He must have a bit of time on his hands these days.

mummymeister · 01/09/2019 18:45

Vote corbyn get Momentum and Mcdon. Both momentum and McDon frighten the beejeezus out of me. The effect of them being in power would be far, far more long lasting than brexit in my view. Yes, they really would seize land and do all the things they are promising to do because they fervently and passionately believe in them.

4cats2kids · 01/09/2019 18:45

My vote is for Corbyn. Like others have said, if he is crap he will be gone in a few years. Brexit will be affecting my children well into their adult lives, if not for ALL of their adult lives.

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 01/09/2019 18:46

I loath Corbyn. But Brexit is way more scary and it’s permanent.

BlueDaBabaDee · 01/09/2019 18:50

Very interesting, it's almost split down the middle.

Worst case scenario, and perfectly possible, is Corbyn running Brexit.( + I voted Leave) in a hung parliament, if the Brexit Party split the Conservative vote

Labour won't win a GE outright, their polling is dreadful, largely down to Corbyn, Momentum and co, but his party would be largest party in a hung Parliament.

How Brexit is handled will make the difference between sinking and swimming. I wouldn't trust current Labour Party to run a shower.

Frequency · 01/09/2019 18:51

Are we talking about Jeremy Corbyn? Aka the current leader of Labour party? Only I don't remember him ever threatening to seize land or declaring that he's a communist. That sounds like alarmist, media-fuelled bollocks to me.

Sadly, the opposite is true for Brexit. The media seems to love it (no clue why the billionaire, tax dodging owners of media outlets would love Brexit and hate Corbyn) and the experts think it will be catastrophic for the economy.

Orchidflower1 · 01/09/2019 18:54

Corbyn all day long.

leckford · 01/09/2019 18:55

Corbyn Magic Grandpa, Abacus Abbot, McDonnell - the full Marxist nightmare

Alsohuman · 01/09/2019 18:57

Corbyn would be time limited. Brexit is forever. I’ll take Corbyn, please.

timshelthechoice · 01/09/2019 18:57

Corbyn will never 'be gone in a few years'. There is no way he'll leave.

mummymeister · 01/09/2019 18:59

Corbyns/momentum/mcdon time in office may be limited but the effect of their policies wont be thats for sure.

Strugglingtodomybest · 01/09/2019 19:01

Easiest question ever, I'd much rather have Corbyn.

Cornettoninja · 01/09/2019 19:02

Corbyn is easily reversible. Brexit is not

This pretty much sums it up for me.

Autumnintheair · 01/09/2019 19:10

Corbyn running brexit is the worst of all scenarios.
We will sink if corbyn runs brexit.

Jesaminecollins · 01/09/2019 19:13

Corbyn would destroy our country and take it back to the 70s when the unions controlled the labour party - the man is so old labour unfortunately and even his party knows this but cannot get rid of him.

Graphista · 01/09/2019 19:14

"Brexit. Undoubtedly. Whatever you think of Corbyn, he could be voted out at the next election. We're going to be stuck with Brexit."

This.

Although I've also yet to read/hear of why Corbyn would be terrible without the reasons being based on anti-Corbyn propaganda and inaccurate.

Myself and certain other mners have repeatedly asked "have you actually read the labour manifesto? Looked at the voting record of the politicians under discussion?" To be met with deafening silence!

"The prospect of Corbyn is truly terrifying. He has no clue and is very dangerous." What are you basing that view on?

You genuinely believe he's more dangerous than Johnson is currently being?!

"You deride Brexiteers that bought into a load of lies, yet you're no better yourself." I wouldn't assume anti Corbyn people aren't brexiters too to be honest.

"punitively high corporation tax driving the big corporations out of our country," brexit far more likely to cause "brain drain" I think

"The media seems to love it (no clue why the billionaire, tax dodging owners of media outlets would love Brexit and hate Corbyn)" exactly! Why do people STILL think the msm are unbiased?!

Jesaminecollins · 01/09/2019 19:16

Remember this

Nicetablecloth · 01/09/2019 19:17

The prospect of either is utterly terrifying, think on balance Corbyn would be marginally less worse as he could eventually be ousted. It ain't a great choice though is it? Sad

AlexaShutUp · 01/09/2019 19:18

I didn't vote because I don't think it's an either/or question.

If we crash out with no deal, it will be chaos, and the Tories will be unelectable for years. Corbyn will be waiting in the wings.

I think Corbyn has deliberately failed to properly oppose a no-deal Brexit because he knows that his best chance of getting elected is to let the Tories fuck the country over.

Symptomless · 01/09/2019 19:18

Corbyn is not a long term issue unlike Brexit.

mummymeister · 01/09/2019 19:18

I base my view of Corbyn on the fact that I worked with him (involved in the unions in London) and that I have heard him speak on numerous occasions. the man was a staunch anti europe supporter. He is also a misogynist and an anti semite. all of this, all based on my own opinion of someone I actually worked with.
