To wonder what is more terrifying to the public of Mumsnet, Corbyn or Brexit Fallout?

So either way we look we seem to have poor prospects.

Potential fears from either side...
Brexit = potential food shortages, medicine shortages, increase of house burglaries, riots, looting, at least half the jobs gone, pound becoming worthless, NHS collapse, economy going down etc.

Corbyn = land value tax, communist, everyone losing their property, house prices crashing, economy going down, etc

I'm not saying I believe either of these things exactly, although I think we will be facing an economy worse than the fall of 2008 after Brexit. I'm more curious as to what people here think.

So to the haters who will say "Another Brexit thread blah blah blah". No one made you click! Stop trying to silence the critics.

Anyways for voting purposes, what is more worrisome to you?

YANBU = the fallout from a BJ led No Deal Brexit
YABU = Jeremy Corbyn in charge

No Deal is bad, but Corbyn the loony lefty is far worse!

AlexaShutUp · 01/09/2019 19:21

But of course, if I had to choose, it would be Corbyn all the way. I don't like him, but he doesn't pose anything like as great a threat as Brexit does.

Truth is, if we leave without a deal, we'll be fucked regardless of who is in charge.

Cornettoninja · 01/09/2019 19:22

destroy our country and take it back to the 70s

Pretty much what I’m expecting Brexit to do tbh. At least Corbyn would have an expiry date.

Hermanhessescat · 01/09/2019 19:22

Why do the tories always get an easy ride ? Massive cuts to services- schools, police, prisons, nhs and social care, all suffered massively over the last 10 years but somehow the total mismanagement of the country’s infrastructure, which let’s be honest led in many ways to Brexit, is still not as bad as a potential labour government..... Confused somebody upthread mentioned renationalisation but looking at the state of privatised services why not ? Probation service, parts of nhs, academies, utilities have all declined because of the rush to make a profit and renationalisation doesn’t have to be like it was 40 odd years ago.

Zzzexhaustedzzz · 01/09/2019 19:22

Renationalise everything- how terrible! Yet that’s what has already happened in the case of Virgin rail for example, after Branson had lined his own pockets nicely.

Symptomless · 01/09/2019 19:24

I don't think Corbyn or labour will ever present a threat to tories, so it's not even worth discussing.

I'd like to know how far to the right will the tories move in the next few years.

StrakerAndBarlow · 01/09/2019 19:25

Brexit!

BogglesGoggles · 01/09/2019 19:27

To be fair both instances are over exaggerated. Brexit is unlikely to be as bad as some people here think (some very imaginative poster on MN). Likewise Corbyn is unlikely to have a large majority or a party that supports his policies (despite his attempts to cull moderate MPs). If we were to take the extremes of a No Deal brexit with a complete breakdown of trade (massive lol at that btw) or a completely unbridled Corbyn government and an HL that somehow just goes along with it (again, lol as if) then the Corbyn government would be worse or would at least worse for us.

Frequency · 01/09/2019 19:28

I disagree. I think once the full impact of Brexit is felt (food and medicine shortages, higher unemployment, the impact on the NHS and social care etc) the Tories will quickly fall out of favour. I very much doubt they'll ever see power again in our lifetime. Sadly, by the time the petals fall from people's eyes the Tories will have already fucked the country over to a point where it will take generations to fix it.

Crotchgoblins · 01/09/2019 19:29

Brexit is the most damaging option by far. Yes it is split down the middle much like the Brexit vote is. I'm not sure how we are ever going to feel united again.

To be honest I think we need a radical overhaul of our government as it is not fit for purpose at the moment and we are going round on circles clueless. A lot of the fears about Corbyn seem completely baseless and frankly hysterical. Perhaps this is how leave voters feel about the warnings on no deal....

BogglesGoggles · 01/09/2019 19:29

@Zzzexhaustedzzz nationalised services in countries that aren’t very affluent (Britain is not wealthy per capita by any stretch of the imagination) tend to be shit. Just look at the NHS and state schools.

KennDodd · 01/09/2019 19:30

Brexit is the worst thing to happen to this country in my lifetime. As much as I can't stand Corbyn he'll be gone in four years so it's a no brainer.

Saucery · 01/09/2019 19:31

Corbyn and his supporters.

noodlenosefraggle · 01/09/2019 19:31

Corbyn for me too. Momentum, much as I loathe them, will not let him go for what he wants, which is a hard Brexit. Without a hard Brexit, he cannot implement his manifesto. Renationalisation is fine in theory, but the money spent buying back shares and the resultant trashing of pension funds (including public sector pensions) will mean they will be able to do little else. Its all a pipe dream. He can be got rid of. Brexit as others have said is irreversable. even if we apply to re enter in 10 years time, we would have lost all our many concessions.

langdale2016 · 01/09/2019 19:31

I support Corbyn. If you actually listen to what he says it all makes sense.

On the other side of the coin you have Johnson, an Etonian, ERG, Trump-loving elitist who is being paid a fortune to preserve the wealth of his rich mates/upper class cronies. Johnson doesn't care what happens to the ordinary citizen because he's never been in a low-paid job, living in a council house, trying to survive to make ends meet.

ElizaDee · 01/09/2019 19:33

YABU

FreshFreesias · 01/09/2019 19:33

Corbyn is far more terrifying. Any wealth generator who can will leave the country, it'll be worse than the '70's. I meant to vote YABU btw.

Dapplegrey · 01/09/2019 19:33

Corbyn is much worse

donkey86 · 01/09/2019 19:33

Brexit = bad, but we’ll manage somehow
A Corbyn govt = utterly disastrous

Figmentofmyimagination · 01/09/2019 19:37

Ideally we need a progressive coalition - Corbyn + Lib Dems, Greens + SNP.

Brexit is horrendous - any way you look at it, we are sunk if we crash out of the EU. And the country will be split every which way, with permanent seething resentment written into our fabric for the foreseeable future.

TheresWaldo · 01/09/2019 19:37

how can a Labour govt been worse than the shower of shite in power at the moment? With a hard Brexit on the cards.

Autumnintheair · 01/09/2019 19:38

Herman where I am hospitals and schools have massively improved. They were on brink of collapse at end of Blair /brown. I'm not saying that's across every area etc but in my locality I'm pleased. I'm swing voter and have no tribal allegiance to any party. But I loathe extremes.

KennDodd · 01/09/2019 19:40

I agree.

rookiemere · 01/09/2019 19:45

Both awful prospects, but horribly in the purposes of self interest I believe that I personally would suffer less from the impact of Brexit than I would from a Corbyn government if he implements the policies he said he will.

TheClitterati · 01/09/2019 19:46

I wish Corbyn would just fuck off. I very much doubt he would win an election if we had one and it's an election we all desperately need a strong Labour Party to win.
