To wonder what is more terrifying to the public of Mumsnet, Corbyn or Brexit Fallout?

So either way we look we seem to have poor prospects.

Potential fears from either side...
Brexit = potential food shortages, medicine shortages, increase of house burglaries, riots, looting, at least half the jobs gone, pound becoming worthless, NHS collapse, economy going down etc.

Corbyn = land value tax, communist, everyone losing their property, house prices crashing, economy going down, etc

I'm not saying I believe either of these things exactly, although I think we will be facing an economy worse than the fall of 2008 after Brexit. I'm more curious as to what people here think.

So to the haters who will say "Another Brexit thread blah blah blah". No one made you click! Stop trying to silence the critics.

Anyways for voting purposes, what is more worrisome to you?

YANBU = the fallout from a BJ led No Deal Brexit
YABU = Jeremy Corbyn in charge

Epstein was despicable, but surely not frightening on a Brexit scale.

darkcloudsandsunnyskies · 01/09/2019 23:00

How is your momentum stash looking

mindproject · 01/09/2019 23:08

I've done a lot of research on the Epstein case, it didn't just involve him and Prince Andrew you know, nor did it just involve teenagers, nor was it just about the abuse of children that happened on his island. When you've don't a bit of research on it, and not just believed the bits and bobs you've seen on the news you might change your mind about how scary it all is. Sinister doesn't even come close. The elites know the cat is out of the bag now but they're still trying to cover it up to the mainstream.

akerman · 01/09/2019 23:31

I agree with every single word theduchess said, right down to being surprised to defend him. I really dislike him, but would take him in a heartbeat over Boris Johnson. Corbyn is not utterly cruel and heartless.

MaxNormal · 02/09/2019 06:47

Anyone who thinks Jeremy Corbyn is more frightening than Dominic Cummings, has not been paying attention.

Jesaminecollins · 02/09/2019 06:56

This thread is reminding me of the many hats of Jeremy Corbyn lol

Also this one is of Jeremy in a Lenin type cap

To wonder what is more terrifying to the public of Mumsnet, Corbyn or Brexit Fallout?
LadyWithLapdog · 02/09/2019 07:04

Brexit and economic nosedive is the worse alternative. The shameless behaviour of Johnson and his inner clique is more terrifying.

Cam77 · 02/09/2019 07:07

The Tories have led Britain to the brink of chaos. It’s safe to say I’m more worried about the present day government, as opposed to the leader of the opposition enacting policies which would benefit millions rather than bankrupt them.

Sotiredofthislife · 02/09/2019 07:22

Yes he could be voted out but in 5 years he could still drive the economy into the ground through renationalising everything, punitively high corporation tax driving the big corporations out of our country, and higher income tax for high earners driving the talent out of our country

Because big business isn’t leaving/won’t leave as a result of Brexit? Because high earners aren’t leaving as a result of Brexit? And lower earners as well, for that matter.

Stripyseagulls · 02/09/2019 07:30

It literally amazes me when people say Corbyn is a bigger threat than Brexit! A no deal Brexit will literally destroy the country- the NHS will be sold off and we will lost all our protections. Decent maternity rights? Forget it.
Anyone who thinks Corbyn is worse than what the current fascists taking over the country will do is mad!

Happygilmorelove · 02/09/2019 07:40

I'm not a Corbyn fan atall, I think labour need a more moderate leader. However...I'm absolutely stunned at the blind faith of some posters here, in the conservatives! What the hell is wrong with you people. Our country is currently a joke throughout the world, the conservatives are wrecking it piece by piece. What does it take for you to wake up..

TheSultanofPingu · 02/09/2019 07:41

It amazes me too stripy
People who know a hell of a lot more than we do have warned that there is a very high chance Brexit will lead to a recession. The threat rises considerably in the event if a no deal Brexit.
I honestly despair at what's happening to this country. Very scary times.

SummerWhisper · 02/09/2019 07:42

Some horrible, ageist comments on here about Jeremy Corbyn. He is not a communist, he is a socialist democrat. He is not extreme, it's just that this country is now far right. Boris Johnson is extreme. He is a dictator, as demonstrated by his proroguing of Parliament in order to shut down the debate on Brexit and he's barely been in power a month. Boris Johnson is a far right prime minister and the future is terrifying under his dictatorship. In a country like Norway, Corbyn's policies are common...and that's hardly a commumist country is it?

SummerWhisper · 02/09/2019 07:45

PS - the economy has plummeted under the Tories since 2010. The Tories lost the UK our triple A rating for the first time in our history.

TheClitterati · 02/09/2019 07:46

I've just read in the news that Corbyn is now absolutely committed to a 2nd referendum. So if that goes into a manifesto I guess o would probably vote for that. Simple because it's the best option in this utter utter political shitshow.

thunderthighsohwoe · 02/09/2019 07:46

Having just watched the final series of Poldark and how the public opinion of Ned Despard was so easily created by those in power (yes I know it’s a work of fiction!), I’d wager a bet that not a lot of what is reported about Corbyn is true.

Whereas Brexit is real, BoJo is on another planet entirely and we’re all going to hell i a handbasket.

Saddler · 02/09/2019 07:47

Corbyn

MaxNormal · 02/09/2019 07:47

@SummerWhisper check out today's Mail Online and you'll see where people are getting this crap from. Full-scale assault on Corbyn again (there must be an election coming).
I'm not even particularly a fan of the man but the right-wing press seem to have finally parted company altogether with any semblance of truth.

Stripyseagulls · 02/09/2019 07:47

@summerwhisper exactly. Corbyn’s policies are no more extreme than those of countries like Norway who are lauded as having some of the best living standards in the world. The last labour manisfesto was great and I personally welcome the nationalisation of some services rather than the likes of Branson profiting from them- including him taking the NHS to court.
This country has lost its fucking mind

BertrandRussell · 02/09/2019 07:59

I think Corbyn is a crap leader of the Labour Party and have said so loudly from the beginning. But this irrational fear of him as sone sort of Stalinist bogeyman is bizarre! The anti Corbyn propaganda machine is amazingly effective.

TheSultanofPingu · 02/09/2019 08:03

I think that over the next year or so, more and more people will realise that they have been brainwashed to swallow this crap.
Sadly, it will be probably be too late by then.

borntobequiet · 02/09/2019 08:05

Anyone who thinks that a Corbyn government implementing fairly middle of the road socialist policies would be worse than the all out trashing of the economy that a no deal Brexit would unleash needs to give their head a big MN Style wobble. And I have not ever voted or supported the Labour Party.
Having said that, all opposition parties should reject the general election that the current executive seem to be trying to game them in to. Johnson and co need to own the shitshow that is Brexit and take the consequences.

Alsohuman · 02/09/2019 08:12

No. The shitshow needs to be stopped and not owned by anyone.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 02/09/2019 08:12

Brexit. Corbyn isn't as bad as the right wing press suggest, won't get a huge majority and can be got rid of.

We'll be stuck with Brexit for decades.
