To wonder what is more terrifying to the public of Mumsnet, Corbyn or Brexit Fallout?

So either way we look we seem to have poor prospects.

Potential fears from either side...
Brexit = potential food shortages, medicine shortages, increase of house burglaries, riots, looting, at least half the jobs gone, pound becoming worthless, NHS collapse, economy going down etc.

Corbyn = land value tax, communist, everyone losing their property, house prices crashing, economy going down, etc

I'm not saying I believe either of these things exactly, although I think we will be facing an economy worse than the fall of 2008 after Brexit. I'm more curious as to what people here think.

So to the haters who will say "Another Brexit thread blah blah blah". No one made you click! Stop trying to silence the critics.

Anyways for voting purposes, what is more worrisome to you?

YANBU = the fallout from a BJ led No Deal Brexit
YABU = Jeremy Corbyn in charge

Brexit. Undoubtedly. Whatever you think of Corbyn, he could be voted out at the next election. We're going to be stuck with Brexit

Totally agree

Autumnintheair · 02/09/2019 20:55

Bertrand maybe your not on mumsnet much? Or maybe not on brexit threads?
There is one thread brexit want to have, Remainers have Westminster threads and every other thread.
Endless questions, rudeness etc. But it kinda falls in with the the intrusion that is the eu 😂😂

Autumnintheair · 02/09/2019 20:57

Super I have tried to report it maybe you should

Alsohuman · 02/09/2019 20:57

There have been threads on which I’ve been the only person with a particular opinion. In fact there was one yesterday about surrogate mothers. I wasn’t bullied, I was disagreed with. That’s what happens in a debate where people have opposing views.

MaximusHeadroom · 02/09/2019 21:00

@Autumnintheair

Please don't think You speak for everyone who lost someone in the war. Thanks!

If you read back it was, it was User specifically doing just that which prompted my post. Hmm

Blibbyblobby · 02/09/2019 21:00

Corbyn could indeed be temporary, but so was gordon Brown and he completely screwed up the final salary pension schemes which were among the best in Europe. did anyone restore the tax credit scheme for dividends paid to pension schemes? Not a cat in hell's chance.

Brown didn't do the pensions any favours, but he was just one factor.
www.channel4.com/news/articles/business_money/factcheck+did+gordon+destroy+our+pensions/171020.html

The main reason pensions are fucked is exactly the same reason house prices shot up - the massive drop in interest rates since the late 90s. You literally could not have one without the other - low rates mean low returns on the equities and bonds in your pensions, but increased house prices as mortgages are cheaper.

Weirdly, no one seems to complain about how much their house went up between 1997 and now, or suggest restoring house prices to what they would have been.

Privatise gains, socialise losses indeed.

Supernova69 · 02/09/2019 21:09

''If you read back it was, it was User specifically doing just that which prompted my post. ''

Sorry but no I disagree, you over reacted and went off on one. You were far more offensive. How the heck did Lee Rigby get brought up???

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 02/09/2019 21:09

Some people who say they voted remain have said mean things to people who say they voted leave

And the other way around

I just wish people would use the word some

Its all leavers this, remainers that

westcountrylovely · 02/09/2019 21:11

"“piranhas swoop on any leaver and pummel them with endless questions”
There’s an incredibly simple answer to that one- answer some of them!

This! I have said, ad infinity, that I would be willing and happy to listen to leavers who can articulate why leaving will be beneficial, how it is a good idea. The reply from leavers 99% of the time is "because we voted leave, you lost, we won, deal with it".

Bobbybobbins · 02/09/2019 21:11

Brexit fallout - nightmare.

Politicians - temporary.

Supernova69 · 02/09/2019 21:11

As I said a small cleek responsible, they know who they are and now feeling a tad guilty. I hope the mods review and act.

westcountrylovely · 02/09/2019 21:12

"Ad infinitum" it should say, before someone jumps on that...

Autumnintheair · 02/09/2019 21:12

Maybe it all comes down to optimists and pessimists. Grin

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 02/09/2019 21:13

they know who they are and now feeling a tad guilty

How do you know?

Supernova69 · 02/09/2019 21:14

''...“piranhas swoop on any leaver and pummel them with endless questions”

They do but people just don't listen or choose to ignore/ridicule.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 02/09/2019 21:14

Stupid bolding Hmm

westcountrylovely · 02/09/2019 21:14

@Autumnintheair I think leavers may be the most optimistic bunch of people I have ever come across. "Blissful ignorance" is the phrase that comes to mind...

Dapplegrey · 02/09/2019 21:14

To me there is a cleek of people on here with a common agenda that DO bully/gang up on others who don't agree with their political views.

I agree. Here are some examples of very unpleasant personal attacks by regular remain supporters on someone whose views they disagree with:

‘I think mummy just struggles in general, with grammar, critical thinking, economics. Just a repeater of soundbites’

‘Mummy has no clue what shes spewing. Her posts read like brainfart with no internal filter.’

‘The only "light hearted Brexit relief" on this thread is mummy's entertaining, deluded musings.’

‘Oh dear you really aren't very bright are you?’

‘Are you from the UK, @mummmy2017 . That doesn't sound like a statement from someone who regularly speaks English.’

‘I think mummy just struggles in general, with grammar, critical thinking, economics. Just a repeater of soundbitesk

‘Why is your grammar so terrible, mummy?’

‘But bots usually try to have at least a modicum of coherence. Mummy seems to be simply hard of thinking.’

‘The grammar is appalling as well.’

westcountrylovely · 02/09/2019 21:17

@Supernova69 the number of responses by leavers that have any substance, or are based in reality rather than fake new and misinformation / lack of understanding are few and far between. But by far the most common response is "you lost, the people have spoken, so we should leave"

Dapplegrey · 02/09/2019 21:19

Are you sure it’s hanging up and not just more than one person having the same opinion?

Bertrand do you think those comments I posted are acceptable? They weren’t ‘more than one person having the same opinion’ on Brexit, they were extremely unpleasant personal attacks.

Alsohuman · 02/09/2019 21:19

I don’t feel remotely guilty for making a robust argument for my beliefs or challenging opinions I don’t agree with. And nor should I. The people branded bullies have disagreed with some opinions in a polite way without name calling or threats. It’s definitely a problem with MN that some posters can’t tell the difference between someone disagreeing with them and a personal attack.

Dapplegrey · 02/09/2019 21:22

Alsohuman so you don’t think those comments I posted are name calling?
Really?

Alsohuman · 02/09/2019 21:22

I haven’t seen those comments before @Dapplegrey, they’re not from this thread, are they?

BertrandRussell · 02/09/2019 21:22

@dapplegrey- I presume you reported the personal attacks and they were then deleted?

Supernova69 · 02/09/2019 21:23

''Super I have tried to report it maybe you should''

Yep, have done Autumn...
