To ask what was the best thing you've ever bought from TK Maxx?

I've just gone in hoping to find some decent things but it just resembled a jumble sale! Things out of their packets, in the wrong places etc. I know a few people who have bought great designer items so cheap from there but I can never find anything.

Aibu to ask what's the best thing you've bought from there?

£795 Grenfell men’s coat for £6.

It caught my eye because the inside lining was the most luxurious deep purple silk. Never heard of the brand so googled it while in store.

The RRP tkmaxx tag said it was £399 but the same exact coat (well, same style but different colour) was on the Grenfell website for £795.

I didn’t think it would actually fit DH, and was just planning on finding it a happy home with a bloke we knew... but it did.

Now always asks, if you go to TK, I could do with a trench coat, if you spot one from Grenfell. Grin

Black Calvin Klein down jacket, reduced to £15. I have worn it for four winters and counting.

Diesel jean jacket, cannot remember actual price but wear it every spring and fall.

AlanThePig · 30/08/2019 10:58

Aside from the obvious, and Steve Wink

My house is a collection of random TK Maxx finds. Astronauts, dinosaurs, hot pink llamas etc. These are two of my favourite ever finds though. I will add DH absolutely hates that cat (he's out all year round) and is filled with fear that I might find something similar again in this years Halloween section haha

Large Le Creuset teapot for £8 and a Manduka yoga mat that sells elsewhere for around £90 but they were selling for £20. I’d never have spent £90 on a yoga mat but every time I use it I smile to myself because it’s so very lovely and firm under my hands!

flirtygirl · 30/08/2019 11:27

Not as great as it once was but they still have great bargains.
This year got dd a pair of Calvin klein trainers for £16.

I buy most kitchen utensils there and pots and pans are fab.

High thread count sheets and cotton duvet sets. Some have retailed for over £100 and I paid £10 or £12. Lots of towels too.
The baskets and bathroom storage are good too.

Hand bags uses to be a lot better but they still sell Osprey, Aspinal and Modalu . They sometimes have very high end designers too.

Sunglasses make my heart sing every summer and the winter coats are great but you do need time to go down the racks. I've had down coats reduced from over £300 to under £35. My older daughter got the most beautiful clothes from here as a child. My younger has not been so lucky due to the stock quality changing.
Lots of branded shoes and trainers, too.

Some stores are very messy and others are not so it think it's down to the staff. I still go most weeks to a Tk maxx or homesense store. I even write a spend into my budget as saves money in the long run.

wink1970 · 30/08/2019 11:28

I go every 5 weeks (it's next to the hairdressers, in a town I wouldn't otherwise go to) and have had:

2 pairs Raybans
LOADS of Parks aromatherapy candles (my favourite)
Various beach kaftans
Le Crueset baking stuff

I also stock up on brand shampoo like Wella professional or Philip Kingsley, and I raid the soap section

At Christmas I go nuts and buy lots of stocking fillers, but you have to be strict about packaging.

LaLoba · 30/08/2019 11:36

I always have a root around the yoga pants as I spend most days in them (daily physio and need comfort) so like nice ones that can be smartened up with some boots and a decent coat.
I got the most lovely coat with a fancy design on the back for a tenner about 10 years ago. Someone tried to mug me while wearing it, and the policewoman who came round told me (in a non blaming way) that my coat would have led him to believe I was rich. I was not 😂

BlueJava · 30/08/2019 12:01

I bought a designer dress.for 16 quid - worn it loads, looks smart, still in excellent condition and gets complimented on. Bargain!

foxtiger · 30/08/2019 12:02

Probably DS1's old leather jacket which was reduced from an RRP of over £200 to £20. I think it might have ended up in there because it was mislabelled - it was supposedly age 16, he was 11 or 12 at the time and it was only slightly too big for him, and fitted him perfectly when he was about 14. It was a really nice, unusual design, dark blue with knitted cuffs and some embroidery on the back about a sports tournament, which fitted his then style well. (He's 22 now and pretty much only wears black and red, but he liked it then!)

AlanThePig · 30/08/2019 12:03

That cat is hideously wonderful !

Isn't he just. He gets lots of comments ranging from "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT!?" To "I LOVE IT!"
There is a sugar skull type thing in the same style this year (as well as hideous cat again) which might come home with me.
I've also bought a lovely coffee pod holder...

foxtiger · 30/08/2019 12:03

Best thing I bought for myself - probably my current very well-cut black jeans by d.jeans.

Roussette · 30/08/2019 12:20

AlanThePig are you being treated for this obssession with hideous cats?! Grin

AlanThePig · 30/08/2019 12:21

Sadly not Roussette in fact the Facebook group actively encourages it.

A gorgeous hanging lampshade in the clearance section for £19. When I goodle the make and model, it was nearly £200!!!

Live some of the unusual artwork they have too. Quite a few bits donning our walls.

PositiveVibez · 30/08/2019 12:22

*googled

PrincessHoneysuckle · 30/08/2019 12:24

A wonderful duck feather pillow that lasted a good 10 years

PrincessHoneysuckle · 30/08/2019 12:25

Also does anyone know why it's called T J Maxx in America?

Basketofkittens · 30/08/2019 12:26

Do you all live in London? My local store is crap!

Blobby10 · 30/08/2019 12:28

I've had three amazing long evening dresses from there - all very ornate and cost about £30 each. Also found a MK winter coat a couple of years ago for £40. Don't go in very often as I HATE the way everything is just stuffed onto the rails but I do like their cookware stuff - got some really good cake tins as well as a huge frying pan with lid (£10).

My local one isn't as good as it used to be though - too much rubbish

AlanThePig · 30/08/2019 12:53

I believe they changed the name in the UK because of TJ Hughes stores.

sqirrelfriends · 30/08/2019 12:57

Philosophy skincare set, all full size. Cleanser, exfoliator, hope in a jar cream, eye cream, microdelivery peel and retinol cream for about £20. I loved the peel so much I went to buy some in Saphora when I was in the states. It was about 60 usd alone.

Ratonastick · 30/08/2019 13:01

A Chanel jacket. The lining of one of the sleeves was all twisted up so it was unwearable until my brilliant DM unpicked and restitched it. Now I have a Chanel jacket for £8!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 30/08/2019 13:02

@AlanThePig thanks! Makes total sense
