To ask what was the best thing you've ever bought from TK Maxx?

I've just gone in hoping to find some decent things but it just resembled a jumble sale! Things out of their packets, in the wrong places etc. I know a few people who have bought great designer items so cheap from there but I can never find anything.

Aibu to ask what's the best thing you've bought from there?

They are quite savvy in terms of what stock gets sent where. So the posher of the 2 stores in Edinburgh I've scored Bally boots, really good cashmere and Stella McCartney dresses. Putney has always had nice bags and sports gear (must be all the rowers). Brixton is always full of stuff I wouldn't touch with a barge pole but my DDs love - they've bought loads of Hollister Ralph Lauren and Juicy.....

My best ever buy was a Marni oversized silk shirt for £4 in clearance as there was a small hole in the sleeve where a button had been pulled off - as there was a spare in the side seam it took minutes to fix.

I’m in the US, so we have TJ Maxx here. I bought a huge Calvin Klein rug for $250. The same rug was on sale at Macys for $3500.

I’ve had some great furniture, clothes and handbags over the years. My favourite though was a ski jacket with a quirky print which was about $100. Every single time I use it someone compliments me on it. It’s a real confidence booster!

Drunk Agnes.

A 3 feet tall pair of wooden angel wings. They are very pretty at Christmas with lights strung around them.

Twofurrycatsagain · 29/08/2019 22:37

Handbags mainly. This works candles. Opi and Essie nail polish. I used to get shoes but they've been poor selection lately. Hardly ever get clothes.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 29/08/2019 22:47

An amazing pair of Ralph Lauren high heeled ankle boots, but it was years ago. Also got my ox-blood red doc martins from there. Haven't found anything decent for a while

LoveGrowsWhere · 29/08/2019 22:56

Fitflop hi-top trainers.
I like their silk tops. Usually under £20, lined & wash well in machine.
Jeans for DS, last pair French Connection. Also Joe Boxer boxers.

mumaw · 29/08/2019 22:58

@Cal72 How much did you pay for that? Smile

Skagen watch for £39.99, spotted in John Lewis £100 more!!

Redshoeblueshoe · 29/08/2019 23:02

Timberland boots £18 Shock

FrankiesKnuckle · 29/08/2019 23:04

A Micheal Kors dress about 8 years ago - I still wear it now (LBD) about £40 iirc.

BillywigSting · 29/08/2019 23:07

Pair of skechers for work (12 hours a shift on my feet) for £25. Exact same pair in next are £60

Lots of good quality woolen stuff

Grafittiqueen · 29/08/2019 23:08

Ski helmets £1 each for the kids. French connection shorts £3. Le creuset kid's baking set £5, that I had really wanted to buy in JL but at £35 was too expensive.

Lego salopettes £3, spider ski jacket £10.

I bloody love tk maxx!

FlaviaAlbia · 29/08/2019 23:10

My favourite black dress, Ralph Lauren, fits perfectly and 100% wool for about £20.

Loads of £££ cycling kit the staff didn't know what to do with and had shoved on the clearance rail. That was a very happy day, I cleaned out everything in my size.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 29/08/2019 23:38

Two leather armchairs GBP200 each, normally retail at approx GBP650 each.

ChickenNugget86 · 29/08/2019 23:42

A pair of vans, covered with burgers all the way around for £6 Smile

PajamasnoDramas · 29/08/2019 23:45

Too much to mention!

It used to be my lunchtime hang out of choice many years ago when working in Surrey. A Calvin Klein jacket still going strong after nearly 20 years, bought for £30, a French Connection suit, loads of great bags, fake fur coat, fake leather jacket.

That was some time ago though and I find such treasures harder to come by in there now

BizzzzyBee · 29/08/2019 23:52

Coach shoes for £40 rrp £250
Alessi drinking glasses
Green Toys and Jellycat toys

I tend to find more bargains in kids clothes than adults. The website is the best - my local shop rarely has any designer gear.

SallyOMalley · 29/08/2019 23:55

A Missoni wool scarf for about £30
A Didriksons winter coat for £40 last year
A pair of Boss sunglasses a few weeks ago for £35

Not a bad haul, but it doesn't happen often!

cakewench · 29/08/2019 23:56

High thread count sheets. They always have them (100% cotton, 500 count or higher) for half the price of anywhere else.

Pans, for cooking or baking, and glassware from high end European brands.

Locations will vary, though. My local one isn't brilliant but some larger locations have loads of items.

Cal72 · 30/08/2019 00:31

@mumaw

£300.....!

Nearly fell over when I saw it. Initially it was priced much higher - I couldn’t afford to buy it even though it was a good price - so I went back every evening for weeks until it got a red label, and even then it was still too much, so I kept waiting and praying nobody else would buy it before they reduced it more. When it reached £300 I lost my nerve and grabbed it.....was starting to make me feel ill that someone else might buy it before I could.......👜

Goodness knows what it was doing there - not in a location that typically gets fantastic stock, so probably got sent there by mistake, rather than being sent to a central London branch. Whenever I went in nobody else seemed to ever pay much attention to it - maybe didn’t know the brand or they were just put off by the price (like me!).

But that was my best find ever. I love it. Bought a full price defender last year, to protect it - spent more on that than on the bag! Adore them both!!!

SweetMarmalade · 30/08/2019 09:57

I don’t know much about designer labels really, so I could pick some of the items and wouldn’t have a clue if it was a great deal or not.

The nearest TK Max to me isn’t in the greatest of areas so we probably don’t get the fabulous bargains some of the London branches do.

Can find it quite stressful when you’re quietly looking through a rail and someone is catching you up! Have come across some pretty rude shoppers!

Basketofkittens · 30/08/2019 10:25

I found an Armani bag once in the store by the Gherkin- it was £600 and I could buy a Mulberry for that!

YesQueen · 30/08/2019 10:29

Thermal socks for bed!
Anne Klein dress for about £15 that fits beautifully
Merrell wool coat £30
Down to earth shoes for £10
Loads and loads of beauty stuff and makeup

WinnieRose1 · 30/08/2019 10:33

I always find amazing shoes in TKM!

My best buy were a gorgeous pair of emerald green LK Bennett court shoes for £29.99! They are still in LK Bennett now for £195!

I wanted to scream from the rooftops when I found them!
