To ask what was the best thing you've ever bought from TK Maxx?

I've just gone in hoping to find some decent things but it just resembled a jumble sale! Things out of their packets, in the wrong places etc. I know a few people who have bought great designer items so cheap from there but I can never find anything.

Aibu to ask what's the best thing you've bought from there?

I got a dress from Emily and Fin and sold it on Ebay for more than I paid for it.

Atlasta · 29/08/2019 20:49

Nautica winter coat couple of years ago £60. It's duffle style beautiful plum colour.
Twice been stopped in the street and complemented on it by strangers.
Fake fur gilet (unknown brand) £18

percheron67 · 29/08/2019 20:50

Mumaw I am ashamed to say that I cannot remember. Sorry.

Autumnchill · 29/08/2019 20:50

Men's small grey striped Ralph Lauren PJs. They were just perfect for £20

Sexnotgender · 29/08/2019 20:50

Haha, sorry Zampa, they were really beautiful. I
Love Liberty print.

PatchworkElmer · 29/08/2019 20:52

Recently, Little Green Radicals PJs for DS.

Best ever bargain is an amazing LBD which I’ve worn to formal occasions for the last 10 years. Cost me £50, it absolutely gorgeous and brilliant quality.

Supersimkin · 29/08/2019 20:52

TK's shot downhill IMHO - mostly own brand stuff now, none of which makes the heart race.

Bargains are thin on the ground, but I always buy Spanx and, even better, Spanx tights, for a fiver. Hanro, Chantal Thomass and Mimi Holliday undies make good treats/presents.

Good lipsticks & foundations if you happen to have skin that is discontinued.

Shoes are better - not so many own brands, but the RRP reductions are a lot less than they were a couple of years back.

Miller Harris is cheap-ish at £40 a pop, but that's sale price in a posh shop anyway.

MillfredTheGreat · 29/08/2019 20:52

Proper copper saucepans.

Aberhonddu · 29/08/2019 20:53

Fake sheepskin coats, twice, the first one was £30 and the second was £50. They were extremely realistic and they were incredibly warm. The first one died a few years ago, I still use the second one. I bought them from TKMAXX when I lived on the North East Coast of Scotland.

Spanglybangles · 29/08/2019 20:53

I had a mooch around today actually, my guilty pleasure without the kids. I bought a Kitchenaid wok for £20, rrp £73, bare minerals eyebrow stuff for DD for £9, rrp £22, tried on a lovely Ralph Lauren quilted/puffy type coat for £89, rrp £349 but didn’t buy it...think I’m gonna go back for it though as was so light but cosy, perfect for the school run and dog walking in autumn/winter.

Once got DD a gorgeous pair of burgundy leather converse for £16 and purple Replay jeans for young DS for £9.

I love their kitchen stuff, knives, utensils, bowls etc. Can get great bedding and towels in our local branches. I like to go in weekday mornings when it’s quiet and the rails are tidy.

HazelBite · 29/08/2019 20:54

The stores really vary, bought two Christian Le Croix handbags when on holiday in Scotland, lovely leather jacket when in Cornwall.
In 2005 I bought a black coat in my local branch, it is the warmest coat I possess and as its such a classical style I still wear it!

Autumnchill · 29/08/2019 20:54

Got some of those eye patches the other week for £4.99 that are £25 on beauty websites (checked while I was in the shop to see if the rrp was genuine!)

Handmade statues
Toilet holder Egyptian cotton sheet and towels

StCharlotte · 29/08/2019 20:55

A really nice raincoat, a beautiful dressing gown, a great stool and some gorgeous sandals which I wore to death and still miss.

ILikTheBred · 29/08/2019 20:57

Redken shampoo - massive bottles for a fraction of the retail prices. Lots of branded kitchenware also.

What are the names of their own brands ?

Croquembou · 29/08/2019 21:00

A Chloe coat for £99, found it online and it had been £2200.

But I agree that 99% of womenswear now is just their own crap. I do like the home bit though.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 29/08/2019 21:02

Pineapple, Skechers, New Balance leggings, sports bras and tanks. Adidas yoga mat.

The nearest isn’t very big though. Nothing in there today unfortunately.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 29/08/2019 21:02

Excited101 and TitsinAbsentia - my people!

Although my Alan came from eBay...

skankingpiglet · 29/08/2019 21:03

I've had great Sylvanian Families and Playmobil finds in there. I recently got a Sylvanian set for £18 that was £45 in the next cheapest retailer. It's gone up into the loft ready for Christmas Smile I've found some well-priced brands in the kid's section such as Little Green Radicals too. I can never face trawling through the adult clothes these days though.
I have noticed that some things are quite pricey in there. DH uses a particular soap which I spotted tucked away. Luckily I called him to check prices, as it was £3 and he usually buys 6 bars at £6 inc p&p!

katseyes7 · 29/08/2019 21:03

Their 'hotel' bedding. l bought a beautiful white high thread count duvet set a few years ago for just over £30. The RRP on it was about £85. lt's still going strong, washes beautifully, and gets softer and softer the longer l have it.

shutthedamndoor · 29/08/2019 21:04

A Stella McCartney dress for my 11year old DD... for a tenner!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 29/08/2019 21:05

Spanx, loads of gym gear, trainers, very bargainous handbags, All Saints stuff and they introduced me to Ara shoes.

Supersimkin · 29/08/2019 21:06

Farhi by Nicole Farhi is a TK own brand now.

RubyRubyRubyRubyAaaaah · 29/08/2019 21:16

Make up, skin care etc can be really good value, sometimes homeware and sports wear too.
Here’s a hint for anyone who hates the “jumble sale” aspect- order online!
