To think there will be riots?

Announced on the news that boris johnson may suspend parliament to reduce the chance of mps being able to block a no deal brexit allowing him to democratically force the uk to leave the EU.

Am i wrong in thinking if this goes ahead there may be serious protests and maybe even riots in london and all across the country to force the governments hand?

People around me seem so apathetic that I can't imagine them rioting. BJ and his cronies seem to be able to do whatever they want. Sad

toomuchtooold · 28/08/2019 10:55

I would hope for non-violent protests to break out... suspect that people are going to sleep through the whole thing though and only go nuts if/once no deal goes through and you start getting shortages in the shops and stuff.

lolaflores · 28/08/2019 10:55

Can parliament be recalled early?
The queen doesn't have to agree.
I feel sick. We are sleepwalking. And we cant stop it. WHERE THE FUCK IS THE OPPOSITION?

KeepStill · 28/08/2019 10:56

This, unfortunately.

Wehttam · 28/08/2019 10:57

I try to mentally block out Brexit because of the possibility of social breakdown. Look at Hong Kong, yes it’s a different political situation but the effects are potentially what could happen here and it’s scary as fuck.

bellinisurge · 28/08/2019 10:57

No. I mean people who kick off might fancy kicking off. I doubt they are organised beyond being organised to have a bit of a kick off.
I'm a general prepper so I can stay in if it kicks off.
I feel sorry for the police.

Stressedout10 · 28/08/2019 11:04

End of the UK
Well done on the coup

Ffsnosexallowed · 28/08/2019 11:06

I bloody hope so! It's appalling and the public shouldn't let him get away with it

Anoni · 28/08/2019 11:12

I pray that people don't sleep on this and act, i really do hope.

I feel like with a combined effort we could grind the uk to a halt and force the governments hand. See the effect accidents have on the m25 to the level of trafgic and congestion in and out of london. Now imagine every route being blocked would cause absoloute chaos

I bloody wish. Too busy stockpiling sugar ar whatever it is

Cheesetoastiesagain · 28/08/2019 11:17

Agreed. If/when children start dying as a result of medication shortages the shit will hit the fan.

Oliversmumsarmy · 28/08/2019 11:19

To think there will be riots

Only if it continues to be nice weather and won’t change anything. Have you ever noticed very few riots in the rain.

Hardly the same as Hong Kong which is trying to rip up a legal contract with no backing.

We are leaving so I would rather get it over and done with.

It is beginning to look like friends divorce. Dragging on and on and neither can get on with their lives because they want everything exactly right before they will agree to anything.

If they had divorced 2 years ago they would be so much better off now

I voted remain but am pragmatic enough to know we are leaving and all this stuff about getting a deal before we leave is stopping us leaving and getting a deal when we have left.

IsadoraQuagmire · 28/08/2019 11:31

Haha, apart from what I've read on MN, I haven't even heard anyone mention Brexit for about a year, except in relation to house buying and selling. I don't think most people seem bothered at all.

whattodowith · 28/08/2019 11:34

The Queen doesn't have to agree and I bloody hope she doesn’t.

I doubt it will cause riots though, people are far too apathetic in this country.

Passthecherrycoke · 28/08/2019 11:35

There won’t bs riots. People don’t care anymore. No one is doing a thing.

The queen will agree. She doesn’t interfere. It’s just formality

Passthecherrycoke · 28/08/2019 11:36

I also think most people are starting to doubt the horror stories will happen too. As a PP said we could’ve done this 2 years ago and been on the road to recovery now Sad

namby · 28/08/2019 11:37

As much as I wish people would react, I think many people are just so fed up of it all they'll see any attempt to stop it as dragging it out further, I think many people just want to move on oblivious of what we're walking into. I think he's going to be hailed a hero by Brexiteers for "getting the job done". I think most have stopped engaging with it all. Unfortunately. I hope I am wrong.

Onatreebyariver · 28/08/2019 11:38

Is everyone forgetting that Brexit was the democratically chosen will of the country? Anyone rioting will just look like a child throwing their toys out of the pram. There was a vote. Get over it.

Kazzyhoward · 28/08/2019 11:40

I think there'll be as many people happy that Brexit will be forced through as unhappy. It's dragging on too long and should have happened a year or two ago. The damage being done is due to the delay. We need it over with so we can move on.

ArsenicChip · 28/08/2019 11:41

I would love it if the Queen said no. However I do realise that is unlikely. This whole situation is simply heart breaking.

RingtheBells · 28/08/2019 11:41

As IsadoraQuagmire says it's only here it is ever really mentioned, no-one irl seems to bother, someone at work mentioned it briefly as they are looking to buy a house and it did cross my mind not to book a holiday at the moment as I might get a cheap one in November if I wait a bit.

Mrskeats · 28/08/2019 11:42

Right wing coup.
Hope Brexit idiots are happy.

Mrskeats · 28/08/2019 11:45

Onatree lying and manilpulating IS NOT DEMOCRACY.
Hope you don't use any medications. My husband is in the medical field and no deal will see shortages and worse. People will DIE because of the gullible idiots who voted for this.

BogglesGoggles · 28/08/2019 11:45

I can’t believe people are comparing this to HK 🙄.

There will only be riots if it stays dry and warm. Those riots may be over brexit or they may be over something completely different (riot types of people don’t tend to take an interest in politics andnormal people don’t riot).

MamaFlintstone · 28/08/2019 11:46

I encounter people talking about Brexit regularly (from both sides of the debate). But to be honest that in itself pisses me off because barely anyone gave a shit about the EU until they were told it could be blamed for all of their failings.
