To think that No Deal Brexit is the only option now

I’m a staunch Remainer, I think Brexit is absolute madness but I can’t see any way out of this mess except No Deal now - the division is too great and views are too entrenched

Leavers insist it will all be fine so the
only option is to do it and see what happens

The way I see it, anything less will just lead to the uprise of the Brexit Party until we ‘leave properly’ anyway.

We might as well just jump of the cliff now. If it’s all rosey then great.

If it’s not at least we can start to repair the damage sooner rather than later

@Doubletrouble99 , I'm ready for No Deal. I'm a general prepper. I'm probably more ready than most people on here.

newstart1337 · 27/08/2019 19:42

"Just pull the plaster off and get on with it." And fuck NI?
But your suggesting unicorn solutions. If it is no deal then the UK, EU & ROI will be forced to genuinely work together to create workable solutions to the border that doesn't fuck NI. And as long as the UK does everything to support NI to make sure it ISNT fucked then it will be better than dragging this purgatory out for another 2 years before we inevitably have a very hard no deal with an even more divided country with even more radicalised remainers/leavers.

Bearbehind · 27/08/2019 19:47

Understanding my rationale is an improvement on ordering me to agree with you and putting your caps lock on.

Understanding why you want something to happen doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.

I totally agree with what newstart just said though.

Dragging this out isn’t the answer.

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 27/08/2019 19:49

So suggesting something tbe EU agrees to, the people of NI agree to and judging by the lack of shits given about NI vs a desire for Brexit , Tories agree to = unicorn.

bellinisurge · 27/08/2019 19:50

"Dragging this out isn’t the answer."
So, another "Fuck NI" position.

Bearbehind · 27/08/2019 19:50

Yep, because it loses the Tories power, and that’s all they care about.

Bearbehind · 27/08/2019 19:51

That was to your 19.49 post

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 27/08/2019 19:51

You want No Deal to punish people and you don't give a shit about NI.

Bearbehind · 27/08/2019 19:52

No bellini it just suits you to think that.

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 27/08/2019 19:54

Explain how you want to stop No Deal to save NI, then .

Bearbehind · 27/08/2019 19:57

Corbyn standing down, labour running on Remain and the people having a chance to make the choice whilst in receipt of the facts

No its not, its about accepting reality the that this is going to happen either this year or the next and all we can do is to minimise the damage to NI. Dragging this 'shit' show on and on sticking your head in the sand will eventually cause more harm for NI and the whole UK.

Doubletrouble99 · 27/08/2019 20:00

Bellini - You have a very odd perception of the Conservative party. There is just no way they would sign away the union, loss power and maybe dwindle into the far reaches of politics, just to get Brexit over the line!!
I don't think so.
I also couldn't agree more that the whole point of this no deal is that we need to go. It's been going on for far too long. The idea that all these idiot in the Labour and Lib dems etc. want to stop no deal at any cost is just for the birds. They haven't come up with a solution, they haven't admitted what they actually want is remain. You can't just say to the EU 27, eh sorry but we want another extension!! Can you honestly see them giving us one! It's just complete unicorns and fantasy land.

bellinisurge · 27/08/2019 20:04

And how are you going to minimise damage to NI in your No Deal fantasy.
As for what Tories think, a recent poll said they care about getting Brexit more than they care about getting Brexit that includes NI.

bellinisurge · 27/08/2019 20:05

We don't need an extension- Johnson puts an NI only backstop to Parliament to get Brexit. They pass it and we leave on 31 October as promised.

Bearbehind · 27/08/2019 20:07

And how are you going to minimise damage to NI in your No Deal fantasy.

bellini regardless of how much you wish it was different, minimising the damage to NI is not the Tories priority, staying in power is.

And even for the average Joe, there’s no solution that is workable and minimises the damage other than getting it over with as quickly as possible

This is Groundhog Day.

But it isn't "getting over it " for NI. It's destroying a fragile peace process.

bellinisurge · 27/08/2019 20:12

If the Tories want to stay in power they have to deliver Brexit. The only way they can do it as promised on 31 October is to tweak WA and let NI stay in the single market and customs union because, as you say, they don't care about NI.

Jason118 · 27/08/2019 20:13

So it seems we have two schools of thought. One hopeful the tories will throw NI under the backstop bus, and one that says we have to no deal and acquiesce to civil war (again). Is that about where we are?

bellinisurge · 27/08/2019 20:15

That's about the size of it @Jason118 . As you know, I would prefer Remain but if it has to be Leave, I want an orderly one.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/08/2019 20:27

Doesn’t matter what people want, the disaster capitalists are calling the shots the UK is heading for no deal with the EU taking the blame and general election mopping up the nationalism vote for Johnson.

Havanananana · 27/08/2019 20:31

So why is David Frost going over to the EU tomorrow to negotiate an alternative to the back stop?

He's not going to negotiate anything. The EU are giving him the courtesy of listening to the UK's next attempt at an alternative proposal.

This is his second visit to Brussels. Johnson (or more likely Cummings) sent him to Brussels first time with instructions to tell the EU that the Backstop had to be dropped. The EU said in effect 'No, the Backstop remains. Now go away and don't come back until you have something new to say.'

His trip this week is an attempt to test the waters with a new alternative proposal, whatever that is. Depending on the content of this new proposal, the EU will either consent to consider it, or just send him away again. No negotiations are taking place yet.

Doubletrouble99 · 27/08/2019 20:44

So what's wrong with that Havana? Why do you scoff? You got any better ideas?
I would like to see a mini trade deal being done in conjunction with the WA concentrating on the main goods that pass over the land border. Thus no need for a back stop.

newstart1337 · 27/08/2019 20:53

But it isn't "getting over it " for NI. It's destroying a fragile peace process
No its not, it might risk the peace process but just because we leave the EU it does not automatically mean the peace process is destroyed.

Hence if we act now before things get even worse it might be possible to keep the peace process going, not that its been going too well in Stormont the past few years.

All sides in this process do actually want to see 'peace' continue.
