None of the reviews are mine, I’ve never been to the place. A friend told me about the cafe owner’s responses to any negative reviews and I’m sat here open mouthed reading them. She alludes to reviewers having small penises, stalks their tripadvisor profile to read other reviews and slags off their photos, etc.

Like I said I’ve never been and won’t after reading these as I wouldn’t want to give my money to someone who sounds so —unhinged— nasty. Can’t believe someone who runs a business has so little idea about customer service.

If you look at the questions section, she explains that a lot of the negative reviews are trolls from competing businesses. One negative review was responded to completely apologetically and normally and she explains it was because it was a genuine one.

Check the tripadvisor page for the Peacock Inn, Bakewell for some actual psychotic responses! I think this lad's quite funny

I read 2 or 4 reasonable, apologetic replies spread over 3,2 and 1 stars. So she's not incapable of it but I get the feeling she's over 40, filled with rage, and sick of everyone's shit.
I can relate and I haven't had to deal with the many headed monster known as the general public for 20 odd years

Yes, but that's blatantly nonsense, isn't it? Of course competing businesses aren't sending in vegetarians or people to order starters in order to write bad reviews - it makes her sound paranoid and delusion as well as rude.

Lots of the negative reviewers have written many other reviews too so clearly aren't trolling her, and she has been rude to them too.

And like I said my friend wrote a review. She’s not a troll and is a very reasonable person who doesn’t make a hobby of leaving poor reviews on trip advisor. She felt it was a balanced review, coffee good, scone under cooked. And got a withering reply.

Her responses are hilarious. She clearly has a lot of satisfied customers as well as the whingers.

tomasz_mi’s review of July 2019 involved owner trying to prevent them leaving the premises and a statement being made to the police.

I think she has a wicked sense of humour and her responses are hilarious.

Seems she thinks folk take themselves way too seriously and she's letting them know it. Visitors have a right to their opinion and she has a right to reply.

I think I'd pop in this ladies Cafe just to meet her and see how mad she really is. Quite clever really, as the old saying goes, there's no such thing as bad publicity, well..

Have a read of the Plume of feathers pub, portscatho, he tells it how it is but in a much nicer way.

Crazy. Surely that’s ten times more damaging to a business than a bad review - even the best of places will inevitably have one or two of those.

They make very comical reading, but I'm with Butchy she's treating her customers like shit, and its shit business acumen. She's derisory, snarky, piss-taking, and downright ignorant irl.

To have attempted to stop customers from leaving, necessitating police intervention really says how far this prize of a woman is prepared to go.

She’s refreshingly brilliant, i worked in the hospitality trade for many many years and trip advisor was often used by customers as a threat or means to discount. I find reading most dull now and don’t bother, but hers are fun. I would definitely visit the fat seagull if in the vicinity

Also there are way way more excellent reviews. It’s obviously a really popular place so she doesn’t give a shit about the bad ones.

I think she is an idiot to respond to bad reviews in this way. Although there will be the occasional person who is not put off or find it hilarious, many people will not go there because of it.

I’ve been there, it’s in a small seaside town in Lincolnshire. Friends of ours go to tennis week every year. It’s the only cafe in that part of the beach. that’s why she can get away with it.

Well there’s the grange de lincs but it’s not much better.

It’s actually a very nice place to eat! I suspect she’s fed up of idiots moaning about petty things.
