Monarchy Abolished?

malibuloving · 19/08/2019 17:52

Other threads have inspired me Grin

Do you think we’ll ever live to see the Royals gone or perhaps our children will?

I can see public support for it to be abolished once the Queens gone. I feel like they’ve had too many chances at this point. The cover up of Andrews vile friendship with the sexual predator Epstein and the awful things Andrew probably did plus the pictures with teenagers has been an outrage. I also really like Harry and Meghan but their hypocrisy is quite embarrassing how they’re banging on about climate change and then jetting off across the globe on private jets. And more and more for all royals.

AIBU to think their time is up soon

Oh yeah same reason as the other staff did

All the staff leaving claims turned out to be bullshit though. The staff in question were leaving anyway and stayed for a while for continuity.

same reason she made Kate cry

All that was ever reported there was that a heavily pregnant Kate cried at a fitting for Charlotte.

When I was that pregnant I cried when someone gave me a chocolate bar so it’s a rather ginormous (but sadly totally predictable) leap to ‘Meghan was a bitch’.

“f there's a book running, I'm fairly sure that I was back there waving a fiver.“

Send it my way. I’ll .....look after.... the stake money.Grin

Ivy45 · 21/08/2019 10:38

@zackly

I should probably know this but what happened at the end of 1989?

Hithere12 · 21/08/2019 10:40

Yes and no. The climate crisis is serious shit. There's no getting around it

People who lecture about climate change then do the opposite are actually SO much more damaging to the cause than people who just say nothing.

To people who look up to them, it gives them permission to behave in a way that damages the environment because their eco hero’s behave that way and still care, so why can’t they??

BertrandRussell · 21/08/2019 10:41

Actually, I can see how the reality of being a total nanny might be rather a shock- whatever the employers were like. The whole security thing would be a nightmare, even if you’d looked after high profile children before.

Hithere12 · 21/08/2019 10:42

No it wasn’t. It was widely reported Meghan made Kate cry, and the Palace did not come out and deny it like they’ve denied other events (like Meghan telling Kate’s staff off - that was denied). If it wasn’t true there’d have been a denial from Palace.

LaurieMarlow · 21/08/2019 10:44

I remember carefully worded copy that only ever stated as fact that Kate cried at a fitting.

Anything else was suggestively put there so ppl like yourself could jump to conclusions.

Feel free to post a link though and let’s take a look.

BertrandRussell · 21/08/2019 10:45

“No it wasn’t. It was widely reported Meghan made Kate cry”
Widely reported by who?

And if the palace issued denials about every batshit story published about the DofC they’d never be doing anything else.

Hithere12 · 21/08/2019 10:46

BertrandRussell

Kate & William still have the same nanny from when George was born, so six years. Meanwhile H&M 3 nannies within 3 months. As well as numerous other staff leaving within a few months. Always an excuse for these coincidences that happen with these two.

If this was a regular office you’d think the manager was hell to work for.

RonnieScotts · 21/08/2019 10:46

Agree with PP who said it's older generations who support the monarchy.

My teenagers (older teens) who are intelligent, educated, well informed people are absolutely disinterested in the royal family - they don't even know which one is which.

The monarchy will not have the support from the next generation.

Hithere12 · 21/08/2019 10:47

You’ll clearly excuse anything from them but this was a pretty huge story and they’ve issued denials about similar events that weren’t true.

LaMarschallin · 21/08/2019 10:48

@BertrandRussell

Now I wonder what it is about the DofC that makes her so much more hypocritical than any other member of the family

Do you mean the "DofS" rather than the "DofC"?

They both irritate me.

The "DofC" because she's got lovely hair (cow) and has, imo, achieved her current role by marrying into the royal family.

The "DofS" because her part in "Suits" has given her the status of "Hollywood actress" (I wanted to be an actress ) and, imo, has achieved that role by marrying into the royal family.

I've never muddled them up though.

So (I'm now trying on your method of replying to posts): How do you think the DofC has attracted more criticism?

zackly · 21/08/2019 10:50

@Ivy45 not at all, I worded it really badly too (it made sense in my head!)

It wasn't in the UK. I was referring to the way that the Eastern Bloc collapsed. In (I think?) the summer of 1989 there were a few minor stirrings, things went on to the point that the Berlin Wall came down at the start of November and when we watched the news on Boxing Day there were images of the Romanian leader and his wife lying dead in a ditch.

BertrandRussell · 21/08/2019 10:51

“Kate & William still have the same nanny from when George was born”

No they haven’t. Their nanny started when George was 8 months old. Tatler said so, so it must be true.

LaMarschallin · 21/08/2019 10:52

PS I see upthread that you've got my fiver...

Kind of wish I hadn't called you you in the "C/S" thing now.

SamanthaBrique · 21/08/2019 10:52

@BertrandRussell Widely reported by the Mail and Sun. Because obviously they have no ulterior motives.

And the initial report was that Kate was in tears at Charlotte's dress fitting. Somehow this evolved into "Meghan made Kate cry".

Ivy45 · 21/08/2019 10:54

@zackly

Thanks and of course. I was 11 so just about remember some things on the news.

I think I misread your post though, I was thinking it was some big event to do with the RF such as Charles and Di splitting, the Panaroma interviews and “tampon gate”.

I agree with your sentiment too, I think that things are much more unstable than they seem, for us currently.

zackly · 21/08/2019 10:57

Not at all Ivy45, I made it sound like it was in the UK. Bad writing!

BertrandRussell · 21/08/2019 10:57

“So (I'm now trying on your method of replying to posts): How do you think the DofC has attracted more criticism?”
Do you mean the DofS? Grin

I genuinely think that the DofS has done nothing “wrong” that the DofC has not done. There has to be a reason the DofS attracts so much more criticism and the only possible reasons are her nationality and her colour.

BlackberryBeret · 21/08/2019 11:03

If you believe in principles of equality and diversity, any one occupying a role of status and political influence simply by virtue of their birth is wrong and anachronistic.

The divine right of kings literally belongs to the Dark Ages. Monarchy doesn't fit with modern accepted principles of supporting attainment through ability and effort.

bluebell34567 · 21/08/2019 11:07

they are very rich, if i were them i would leave the status myself instead of being scrutinized all the time and live like that. it would be more dignified.
btw i dont mean the critisms are wrong.

LaMarschallin · 21/08/2019 11:14

@BertrandRussell

You did mean to type "DofS" not "DofC" didn't you?

I agree with the points you've made about MM (abbreviating here) on MN. I'm sure (imo - to try to avoid my post being deleted) that a lot of the criticism about her is based on racism.

But...

I can quite see how you got your duchesses of C and S muddled up.
They're both random people to us.

(Well, to me. You've been off to garden parties and stuff. I bobbed at princess Anne when I got my degree and had my foot stepped on by one of the queen's protection unit at Ascot. Closest I've got)

But is it also a little bit racist to immediately jump to protect someone just because their mother is black?

Without even noticing which duchess you mean?

BertrandRussell · 21/08/2019 11:19

I think you might be ascribing a lot of importance to a typo!

I would happily have the royal family abolished tomorrow. But I find the way that MM has been treated truly shocking- both by the press and by “ordinary people”. Such as many on here. The “I just don’t like her- can’t put my finger on why” are the worst.

LaMarschallin · 21/08/2019 11:47

@BertrandRussell

I think you might be ascribing a lot of importance to a typo!

I might be. C and S aren't that too far away from each other on a keyboard.

I would happily have the royal family abolished tomorrow. But I find the way that MM has been treated truly shocking- both by the press and by “ordinary people”. Such as many on here. The “I just don’t like her- can’t put my finger on why” are the worst.

Honestly, I agree with you. And I've got a horrible feeling that I've said something along the lines of "I just don’t like her- can’t put my finger on why”.

But I dislike Kate equally in the same way.

Maybe a PP upthread had it right when they mentioned jealousy.
I'm sure you're not jealous but I am! Smile

I'd love some of their money.
I'd love to wait around after my degree and not need to get a job in the hope that someone rich would propose.
I'd love to suddenly become noticed after slogging away at some random show because my fiance was seen as important.

I wouldn't love to post a picture of two bananas on social media to describe my relationship. And, yes: I judged MM on that. For an example of why I took against her.
Not due to race but due to age (she's not that much younger than me, but generationally, a lot) and nationality: we've seen how American leaders use Twitter and SM.
As I said, I think Kate's been more clever and has, perhaps, known how to push British peoples' buttons.

So some posters may leap to justify MM and call racism...
If they don't even know to whom they're referring... that's a bit racist too.

Or it would be if it wasn't a typo.

Hithere12 · 21/08/2019 12:45

I’m mixed raced (half Iranian) I honestly wish I’d have known every person who ever criticised me or didn’t like me did so because I was mixed raced, I definitely mixed a trick there Grin I could have blamed it on all my bad behaviour growing up. I didn’t nothing wrong everyone is racist.
