Sure the dress is alright (not my style) but God is it spiralling out of control.

I’ve just read this www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/the-zara-dress_uk_5d516d12e4b0fd2733f353b1

and can’t quite believe people are mocking and posting pictures of strangers on an Instagram account and hashtag dedicated to a bloody dress.

This kind of thing is only relevant if you’re part of that whole world - would pass me by completely - don’t like the dress, covers too much lol

Alsohuman · 18/08/2019 12:56

At my age you can’t cover too much!

CrowleysBentley · 18/08/2019 13:29

That's one ugly, frumpy looking dress. I wish the high neck dress thing would fuck off tbh, I'm quite top heavy and high necked on me = matronly aunt look. And they all look like they're made from someone's nan's curtains.

I've been trying to find a nice dress to wear to a mate's wedding and everything is either high necked, too short, tight fitting or made of crappy, fire hazard, shiny polyester. It's crap, but I suppose we've at least mostly got rid of that horrible cold shoulder style.

Pipandmum · 18/08/2019 13:34

I’ve only heard of this dress on mumsnet. Never seen it on anyone in real life, or read/heard about it in the press.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/08/2019 13:42

TBQH everyone I've seen wearing it has looked nice in it but they've all been of a 20s/30s type.

MarthaDunstable · 18/08/2019 14:14

I see it all the time, and all the women I see wearing it look fine or better. If I’m with DD I nudge her to point them out - it’s the sartorial equivalent of playing Yellow Car. I think the woman who wrote the piece in the OP may have misinterpreted the tone: it’s a dress widely seen as being made of win, so anyone pointing and staring is much less likely to be saying “look at the state of that” than they are to be saying “that’s number 32 today - interesting choice of belt”. She’s offered absolutely no evidence of the Mean Girls approach she’s complaining about.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 18/08/2019 14:35

Maxi dresses are a godsend for.plus size, 5'10 me but I wouldn't wear that one. Not now anyway!

Sara107 · 18/08/2019 18:49

I saw an article in the Guardian recently, not aware of having seen The Dress in real life. The article says it is unusual in being a style that suits any shape and size. I disagree! If I put that frock on, it would be trailing on the floor, I guarantee it would make me look like Queen Victoria, as wide as I am high! Long clothes on short fat people do not suit!

OooErMissus · 18/08/2019 19:06

It's certainly a style that would fit any shape or size. And by 'fit', I mean you could easily put it on, even if it ballooned all around you.

Suit any shape or size? Absolutely not.

But all the spin doctors have to say is 'universally flattering', 'suits every shape and size', and people stop seeing sense.

I actually think it's the frill on the bottom that repels me the most. Even more than the wide, low hanging waist line. And that's saying something.

gamerwidow · 18/08/2019 19:10

if women feel good wearing it they should be able to without people putting pictures up on the Internet mocking them.
Who cares if other people might be wearing it too. If wouldn’t suit me but if other people like it then let them crack on.

Alsohuman · 18/08/2019 19:17

The waist isn’t low, it falls about two inches above my natural waist - and I’m short waisted.

funmummy48 · 18/08/2019 23:05

One of my colleagues had it.She's the only person who I've ever seen wearing it & though I wouldn't wear it myself, she looks lovely in it. No big deal.

nononever · 19/08/2019 07:29

It’s not to my taste at all pattern wise, but if it didn’t have the bottom frill would look a lot better style wise.

The bottom frill alone is enough to put me off any dress, I just don't like that feature on dresses.

As I said upthread I have only seen one lady wearing it and she looked fabulous in it. Very tall and slim.

70sWitch · 19/08/2019 10:03

I can't see a waist of any kind on it anywhere.

The neckline is unflatteringly high. No need for that especially as it's so plain. A slightly lower scoop would still be "modest" but suit far more women.

Polka dots are boring. Monochrome is deadly boring. And it's shapeless.

But that doesn't mean its okay to "shame" women wearing it.

SurferRona · 19/08/2019 17:37

YABVVU linking to Huff post and the totally incomprehensible, impossible, just fucking awful OATH privacy platform! Anyone ever successfully managed to opt out as they hold out is possible?! ( In reality I think it's IMpossible)

CoolCarrie · 25/08/2019 23:57

Finally saw it in the flesh , as it were, bloody awful, even the Amish wouldn’t wear it.
