Sure the dress is alright (not my style) but God is it spiralling out of control.

I’ve just read this www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/the-zara-dress_uk_5d516d12e4b0fd2733f353b1

and can’t quite believe people are mocking and posting pictures of strangers on an Instagram account and hashtag dedicated to a bloody dress.

OP posts:
Butchyrestingface · 17/08/2019 19:08

I balked a bit when I saw this thread but sod it - a few daily hate reading bitches sneering at me really going to put me off wearing it.

I’d never heard of it until enlightened by OP. I don’t like it, but then, I have been known to read the DM sidebar of shame on occasion, and I’m definitely a bitch, so perhaps that explains it. Grin

There’s an Instagram page devoted to the subject. Think I saw a photo of someone with blue version of dress (dyed blue?) on there.

CoolCarrie · 17/08/2019 19:13

I would buy this and alter it, make it a v neck and shortened it. I do that with lots of clothes if I like the material or general style, but don’t like the neckline for example.

Alsohuman · 17/08/2019 19:16

It looks fine worn back to front @CoolCarrie.

Leftiefterson · 17/08/2019 19:33

I really don’t get the hype either. It looks like a sack on most people. There are instagram accounts created solely for the dress. Just odd.

BenjiB · 17/08/2019 19:34

Never seen anyone wearing it or heard of it. I think it’s ugly and unflattering.

Ginmel · 17/08/2019 19:35

How is this different from any other overhyped product? Couldn't care less, truth be told.

TwoPencePenny · 17/08/2019 19:43

I’m so confused... it’s so popular because it’s ‘flattering on everyone’ but it doesn’t look like it’s flattering anyone Confused
All beautiful ladies but does nothing for their shapes.

Vivianebrookskoviak · 17/08/2019 19:46

It's nothing special and Zara clothes just make me yawn for the most part.

rachaelclaire1 · 17/08/2019 19:58

Bloody awful

ErrolTheDragon · 17/08/2019 20:02

I'm in the North and saw someone wearing one today, a mother of a small baby.
It looked comfortable Grin

mimosaadorna · 17/08/2019 20:03

I’ve just looked “the dress” up on insta. That’s it??, what’s the big deal ??. I thought it might turn you into the worlds sexiest woman, the way people were banging on about it. It’s like something my mum wore in the 80s, but not in a good way.........🙄🙄🙄

mumoy · 17/08/2019 20:09

Never seen this dress either, not hit my part of London even though there is a massive Zara's just up the road from me!

Walkaround · 17/08/2019 20:13

It's hideous. How can anyone think it's flattering?! It suits nobody in any of the pictures I've seen - it gives the impression people are trying to hide in a shapeless, ugly dress to hide flabby, shapeless bodies, imvho. The hemline doesn't even hang straight on most people, demonstrating its appallingly bad quality and giving the lie to the claim it fits well on any body shape. Fits badly on everyone more like, but safety in numbers and probably very comfortable to wear (like most shapless clothes that don't cling, pinch or squeeze...). Yuck.

Teacher22 · 17/08/2019 20:20

This year’s long sleeved, thin flowery sack dress, epitomised by the Zara dress, is probably what the Amish would like their womenfolk to wear on Sundays.

Why?

nononever · 17/08/2019 20:59

It was even big in NYC. The New York post's take on it nypost.com/2019/07/16/summers-hottest-dress-is-a-70-sack/

to think this whole Zara dress thing has gone too far?
OooErMissus · 17/08/2019 21:01

Why can’t people get it into their heads that “flattering” isn’t a factor some of us take into account when we buy clothes? How hard is it to understand?

What the?! Grin

It's been pitched as 'universally flattering'!

That's kinda the entire point that women are rushing out, en mass, to buy it.

I'd never heard of it until this thread. But from this thread I've learnt that it's known as The Dress, is universally flattering on every and any shape, has been repeated by Zara twice, has its own Instagram accounts, there are photos of groups of women in it, and people are being made fun of for wearing it in national newspapers.

So I do a search on it, all expectant, and up comes ... that? 😳

Any-climax doesn't begin to cover it.

Commonwasher · 17/08/2019 21:07

Surely we’re not assuming something fashionable and/or popular looks good?

Men’s skinny jeans...

I rest my case.

Butchyrestingface · 17/08/2019 21:08

It's been pitched as 'universally flattering'!

Maybe what they meant is that it’s universally flattering in the sense that it flatters all wearers to the same degree, ie, not at all?

OooErMissus · 17/08/2019 21:09

Surely that is what is meant, Butchy.

Advisemeplease1 · 17/08/2019 21:10

Never seen it before. It's one ugly dress though. Not at all flattering.

CottonSock · 17/08/2019 21:11

I think so too!

Alsohuman · 17/08/2019 21:11

So can we see some “flattering” dresses, then?

thewayoftheplatypus · 17/08/2019 21:14

I have the dress, wear the dress and love the dress! Have worn it once a week since I got it, despite being short and rotund. I like that it’s oversized and breezy- ideal for this inbetweeny summer weather. As I don’t give any shits about looking ‘sexy’ the fact that it doesnt cling to my body is only another positive

Figgygal · 17/08/2019 21:15

Only heard about yhis the other day and yes don't get it at all

OooErMissus · 17/08/2019 21:31

So can we see some “flattering” dresses, then?

Putting aside the fact that it depends entirely on the shape of the person wearing it .... not tents, for starters.
