I was in Germany recently and bumped into someone I used to work with in India.

In the water at the beach in Italy. DH met a bloke he used to work with.

x2boys · 12/08/2019 19:02

Whilst on holiday in Corfu aged 14 we went to visit my uncle and his family who coincidentally were holidaying in a different more posh resort and bumped into my head of year .

TroubleTremble · 12/08/2019 19:02

In the middle of nowhere, not another soul in sight, on a 15k hike...across a field and over a stile, a woman was the other side of the stile.. was my DH's best friend from years ago and they hadn't seen each other for years! I'd heard lots about her but never met.

They had SUCH a sweet hug, cried, and we haven't lost touch since. (I've stolen her as my friend too!)

In a tiny bar in a small marina in Trinidad. I bumped into a guy from my hometown. It was really odd!!

GVmama · 12/08/2019 19:05

We had some Australian visitors when we were teenagers, and they spotted their neighbours walking down the street in Central London. It blew our tiny minds!!

LoseLooseLucy · 12/08/2019 19:05

In a bar on the Isle of Man, a con artist who had 'run off' with a pensioner's life savings some years before. (I worked for him).

basicbitch16 · 12/08/2019 19:06

In a bar in Tenerife!

shhsecret · 12/08/2019 19:06

Bit different as we didn't know them personally but we were at Sherwood Forest Center Parcs swimmming pool (Nottingham) and on our last day we walked past a guy who works in our local Aldi (Gateshead) in a full wet suit!

It was the most random moment 😂

reefedsail · 12/08/2019 19:07

In a hotel deep in the rainforest bit of Queensland. Met someone I'd played sport with 10 years earlier.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 12/08/2019 19:07

I got chatting to someone through a Slimming World tag on instagram. We'd talked for several weeks but absolutely nothing about home life or location.

My mom was hospitalised with terminal cancer - got moved to a new ward after a few days - I walked in and there was my online chum - her nurse. Shock

Very sad times, but I always felt that fate had a hand in that.

basicbitch16 · 12/08/2019 19:07

Oh and when I lived near London, but worked in Manchester, & my next door neighbour from home came striding into our office for a meeting!!

ThisHereMamaBear · 12/08/2019 19:08

In Disney Florida in the queue for the ride "it's a small world."

NorthernBirdAtHeart · 12/08/2019 19:08

Pangkour Laut, a tiny private island in Malaysia and my old boss was sat in the restaurant with her family!

RubyWho · 12/08/2019 19:09

Scrumptelicious · 12/08/2019 19:11

Was on holidays in San Francisco. Bumped into my first cousin who was only passing through on a 2 day stay.

mbosnz · 12/08/2019 19:11

I was working in a large insurance company in London. DH missent an email to someone with username my first name and maiden name. It turned out it was the same woman I'd gone through university with in NZ, both of us having the same name at the time, always getting nailed with each other's library fines!

ChipsAndKetchup · 12/08/2019 19:12

On a ferry in Cambodia I bumped into a girl I used to work with.

Then months later I ran into an old school acquaintance in a late night bar in Sydney.

I am from the UK so both experiences totally random.

Shootingstar1115 · 12/08/2019 19:14

I don’t think anything like that has happened to me! Saying that it wasn’t anybody I actually knew but when I was a child we were off on our holiday and left home early in the morning. Near our home we passed a cyclist on the way up. For some reason he was pretty distinctive. Later in the week we were buying fish and chips at the same take away as him 🤣 200 miles away!

My other half went travelling when he was younger. Whilst visiting New Zealand he bumped into somebody he knew. She just casually said ‘alright’ and walked on by like they had bumped into each other in a supermarket in their home town!

Windygate · 12/08/2019 19:16

New York with DS bumped into his headmaster. HM was with his DW and DC. No problem except DW is a teacher at same school and their relationship was top secret.

We've never said a word

QueenoftheNowhereverse · 12/08/2019 19:17

At secondary school in Australia we had ‘peer group mentors’; final year students buddied up with first years to show you the ropes etc. 23 years later standing in the queue for the Catacombs in Paris, caught the profile of the woman standing in front of me, realised it was my mentor.

Lauren83 · 12/08/2019 19:18

Maintenance man from work on a taxi boat I'm Skiathos

Pipandmum · 12/08/2019 19:18

At the Colosseum in Rome took same tour as my mother’s carer (she lived in America).

A friend went to London (70 miles from where she lives) to see a play, sat in her seat started chatting to neighbour who turns out lives in same building as her!
My parents ran into a colleague (again from US) in a small cafe in Israel.
My 16 year old son went to London (again 70 miles from home) went to Oxford St and ran into a schoolmate. They’re good friends but neither knew the other was going to London that weekend.
