I was in Germany recently and bumped into someone I used to work with in India.

A decade or three ago I went with my DM and DF to Turkey on holiday. While sightseeing round Ephesus we bumped into my DB2's best mate and middle son of our friends/neighbours from about 500 yards down our road...Grin

Not sure if any these would be considered as strange places, I live in Somerset and I have bumped into people from my home town when on holiday in : - Majorca, Cyprus(2 lots of aquaintances ), Malta, North Wales, Isle of Wight . Also went to a concert at Knebworth, there were 250,000 people there and I heard a girl I had been to college with shout out my name.

fraxion · 12/08/2019 20:47

In Dubai airport. Heard someone call my name and turned round, he said you don't recognise me do you and laughed. The second he laughed I knew who he was. We hadn't seen each other for 27 years. We both had a couple of hours until our connecting flight so we retired to the bar for a catch up. We were early twenties when we last saw each other and I was fair chuffed when he said I hadn't changed a bit Grin.

On a hospital ward after giving birth, an old colleague of mine was wheeled into the bed next to me. Hadn't seen her for 5 years and we were both a bit trussesd up having had a c section.

JasonColbyStankers · 12/08/2019 20:50

Before they were married, my folks did a road trip to Italy (c1965). On their way back, they stopped at a hotel in Monte Carlo for the night. They were having to be very careful with money by this point.

They went down to the bar, and someone called out my dad’s name. It was an ITN news crew (Dad was a press photographer).

My parents were treated to a very merry and boozy dinner, and they went down on ITN’s expenses as “the minister of the interior and his wife.”

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 12/08/2019 20:58

Kuala Lumpur airport.

Jinxed2 · 12/08/2019 21:02

Oh I had the hospital ward thing too, I was being induced with my middle child and went to the loo and accidentally went into the wrong room afterwards and there was a girl who I went to college with being induced, then we were on the same bay on the postnatal Ward 🤣

Disney Village in France, I was there with my DM and Dsis - bumped into one of my old high-school teachers.

starfishcoffee · 12/08/2019 21:07

Oh, and the midwife who delivered DS happened to have been a friend of my dad.

sue51 · 12/08/2019 21:10

Bumped into friends while on holiday in both Vancouver and Hawaii. Saw a neighbour in a queue to meet Mickey Mouse at Disneyland Paris.

LlamaofDrama · 12/08/2019 21:10

Wengen on holiday as a child. One of my friends from school was up the same mountain.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 12/08/2019 21:13

Disneyland Paris, bumped into the family who lived opposite us. Bumped into the same family in the centre of London on another occasion.

youarenotkiddingme · 12/08/2019 21:18

Not strange but bumped into a family who's Dd swam at same club as my DB.
We were south of France.

What the 2 woman found strange was the men were also friends and the kids swam together 8 times a week. Neither had mentioned even going on holiday.

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 12/08/2019 21:24

I met my cousin in Spain. I haven't seen her in years as we live too far apart and managed to cross paths over a thousand miles away.

AnnonniMoose · 12/08/2019 21:25

One night at about 11pm in Sainsbury's in England - ended up at the till behind a friend I used to go to school with when we were 10 - in South Africa!

user1494182820 · 12/08/2019 21:27

Probably not that obscure but in the Scottish Highlands this year we got talking to an older couple and it turned out the lady had been my mum's primary school supply teacher.

LakieLady · 12/08/2019 21:27

Waiting room at a GUM clinic. Blush

We'd both gone to a hospital outside of the area we lived in, to minimise the risk of meeting anyone we knew.

Later, we became very good friends and often laughed about it.

lovelyupnorth · 12/08/2019 21:29

Lansing Michigan bumped into a family I’d met in Dublin 3 years before. Was scouting related but still wasn’t expecting that.

Jammiebammie · 12/08/2019 21:33

Many moons ago when I was 10 (!) we went on holiday to Florida. On the plane out my mum bumped into her cousin (and hilariously asked where he was going). Then we saw my best friend from school at universal studios, and then bumped into my dads work colleague at a restaurant. It was utterly bizarre. Turns out my husband now was in Florida and at the same parks on the identical dates, always wonder if we’ll see each other in the background if we look through old photos.
My friend is a manager at our local Asda and guaranteed at least once in every holiday she’ll meet someone who says ‘hey you work in asda’ Grin

Jsmith99 · 12/08/2019 21:34

I bumped into a bloke I went to school with when I was looking round the Bayeux tapestry.

MadisonAvenue · 12/08/2019 21:40

I was about 12 when we bumped into a neighbour in the Lake District. I'll just say that it was the time we discovered that she was having an affair.

An old school friend was on a flight to Tenerife. I hadn't seen her for about 10 years.

Standing in a queue in Bude and the woman in front of me was the mother of someone in my child's class. An hour later we bumped into a friend of my mother in law.

Waterlemon · 12/08/2019 21:46

Back in our teens, a friend of mine met a guy in a club and had a quick snog at the end of the night. She wasn’t very keen on him so gave him the wrong phone number (no smart phones in those days!) then every time we went back to this club, we would have to dart around the club trying to avoid him.

A few months later, we booked our first ever girls holiday abroad.

At the airport we hear someone shout “Ritzy massive - whoop whoop”
It was this same guy! He ended up on the same flight and the same transfer bus! We got off the coach first so he knew where we were staying and would shout for us every single time he walked past our hotel! We spent the whole week trying to avoid him wherever we went!

jmh740 · 12/08/2019 21:47

I was in the M&M shop in london 300miles away from home when I heard "hello Miss" two of the pupils from my school.

FairyDogMother11 · 12/08/2019 21:50

We didn't know them, but on our Scandanavian cruise, the couple sat on the next table at dinner every night were from the next village along from our hometown!

Benjispruce · 12/08/2019 21:54

At the luggage carousel in Naples, Italy on our honeymoon. Went to grab my case at the same time as another person, looked up and it was the front desk security guy from my office .
