I’ve signed on the dole once in my life for 6 weeks after being made redundant from one job and the start date for my next job. Saw the guy I signed with from the dole office in an airport in Jamaica. Luckily he knew I wasn’t doing anything untoward!

In Ibiza we bumped into a family we met the previous year in a hotel in Majorca ... I couldn't believe they had picked the same hotel as us because we hadn't kept in touch with them.

Queuing to check-in for a flight at Faro airport and I turn to see stood right behind me was my Dentist. At first I didn’t recognise him until he spoke to DD and asked how she was getting on with her braces.

I have a couple -we bumped into a former colleague of my dads on a bus in Malta when on holiday. Also I went to knebworth for a gig - 100,000 people there and suddenly someone in the crowd shouted me... someone I used to work with many years before. Then recently I was transferring through Abu Dhabi airport coming from Oz when I bumped into a former colleague from the Netherlands!

On holiday sunbathing in My cousins back yard in Toronto, in walked my best friends aunt and uncle - had no clue my aunt was friends with them for over 40 yrs and they were visiting her at the same time. We were all surprised, small world.

I met a couple of ex flat mates on a ferry in the middle of the North Sea.
Hi J & P Smile!

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 12/08/2019 20:11

Bumped into my husband's colleague and his girlfriend on the viewing platform of the Space Needle in Seattle in 1997. We all live and work in London.

Holidaying with a friend in Portugal and we bumped into her new boss and his family on a beach. Again, all from London.

Bonkersblond · 12/08/2019 20:15

We met some people camping in France, didn’t keep in touch but met them again in Florida staying in the same hotel.

FrangipaniBlue · 12/08/2019 20:22

I was in a late night takeaway in an Australian city and a voice behind me said " I'd recognise that accent anywhere"

Turned out he lived less than 10 miles from me in the north of England.

exLtEveDallas · 12/08/2019 20:22

Every holiday we have been on we have met someone we know. It's become a standing joke with our friends/family and it's one of the first things they ask us when we get back!

The best ones:
2004 honeymoon, made friends with another couple on honeymoon. When chatting the male mentioned that his dad was in the Army (as we both were).

A few weeks after we returned DH went to Iraq. About 6 weeks in, at a routine checkpoint DH sees a bloke that looks familiar, checks his nametag - it's the dad.

2012 on hols in Egypt, DD makes friends with a girl her age, we like the parents and we end up spending most of the holiday together.
2013 we go back to the same place. Start of week 2 I'm on a sunbed early morning and I hear "Eve, is that you?" They'd also decided to return, just a week later.
2014 Gatwick airport boarding for a flight to Kos I hear "I don't bloody believe it" and it's them again!
No contact with them after each holiday, just a great coincidence Smile

Last year in Egypt again, browsing FB one morning and a friend posts a photo from her holiday. I think, "I recognise that", and it turns out she's in a hotel down the road. I hadn't met up with her for a number of years (military friend) so we took the opportunity to get together.
This year on hols DH starts chatting to a family by the pool. Mentions the story about meeting my friend last year...bloke says, "I know a couple with those names" turns out he is the cousin of my friends husband Shock

I'll be quite sad when we break this cycle...

On top of Bow Fell in the Lake District, in the half term before O levels. We lived in South London.

I was racing my sister for the top, when a voice came from above "Hello Bert, are you revising your Greek?" Fucking Classics teacher and her husband in really alarming shorts.

spanieleyes · 12/08/2019 20:28

When I was looking to move I went to view two houses opposite each other. I decided to buy one and the other sold quickly afterwards. When I was in the process of moving out of my old house into my new one, the owners of the opposite house were moving out at the same time-much to my surprise, they moved in opposite my old house!
Just as weird, the purchasers of the opposite house had the same occupation as I had.

FrancesFryer · 12/08/2019 20:29

When i was small, this was before land line phones were common, we were on holiday in Weymouth.
There was a spectacular storm one night which damaged our tent.
We'd packed up to go home and stopped at a picnic area to use the toilets.
While we were there we met my grandparents. It was a good job we met them because they were paying a surprise visit while we were away and we were on our way home

pasturesgreen · 12/08/2019 20:33

Years ago I bumped into some friends of my parents' outside Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.

bee222 · 12/08/2019 20:34

Walking along a quiet trail near Mount Fuji on holiday, turned a corner and came face to face with someone who was a regular at the pub I was working in at the time.

Stravapalava · 12/08/2019 20:34

My ex and I were in the Canaries and smoking on the balcony of our hotel room, when we heard "got a light?" from the next balcony. Ex popped his head round to offer a light and it was someone he used to go to school with on the other side of the world, 20 years previously.

MrsExpo · 12/08/2019 20:36

I met one of my old college lecturers in a hotel bar in Shanghai.

amusedbush · 12/08/2019 20:36

I did my degree online via a brick university in another UK city. They asked me to interview so I drove the 50 miles over there, knocked on the door that I was asked to report to and on the other side of it was... my mum Confused

I knew she worked there but didn’t know which department and although she knew I would be interviewing with her colleague as I’d told her as a matter of course, she couldn’t discuss it as I was technically ‘just’ an applicant. Seeing her there when I was in Professional Mode threw me a little!

Jinxed2 · 12/08/2019 20:36

At Disneyland Paris we saw 2 families from our town!

When I went on holiday as a teenager a girl and her mum turned up at our complex who me and my mum were friendly with, but not friendly enough for them to know we would be there!
