Old Man Pants

Spanielmadness · 06/08/2019 15:38

Lighthearted - of course my DP can wear what he wishes and I would never tell him what he can or can’t wear...........

My DP and I have a debate - I think the slips he wears and declares so comfortable are ‘old man pants’. He disagrees and feels that any young man would be pleased to wear such a comfortable pant.

So please, wise ones of mumsnet - AIBU to declare these ‘old man pants’?

If those are his actual pants you've taken a photo of and stuck on a public forum, MN is weirder than ever today.

That is all.

Owlypants · 06/08/2019 18:25

😂😂 knocking over toddlers

TooManyPaws · 06/08/2019 18:30

I wear comfy granny pants so any bloke I am likely to see in his underpants can wear what he finds comfortable. However, what I think of as OMP are huge white Y-fronts with balloon bottoms which is what my father wore.

Knocking over toddlers did get me to actually LOL.

22Giraffes · 06/08/2019 18:31

No no no they are only for under 5's! boxer shorts are the only acceptable man pant Grin

Bookworm4 · 06/08/2019 18:32

Burn with fire; quickly!

ToastyFingers · 06/08/2019 18:35

Definitely old man pants.
I wouldn't feel up for it if DH slunk into bed wearing them.

BlueJava · 06/08/2019 18:37

I've just chucked a load of similar pants from DH out. I replaced them with very bright flower, animal and camouflage ones from Next!

Sexnotgender · 06/08/2019 18:41

They are absolutely grim. Definitely old man pants.

ThingInTheAttic · 06/08/2019 18:41

In hysterics now at the "knocking over toddlers" comment Grin

Every time someone mentions big baggy Y fronts I can't help thinking of the Julia Davis comedy "Camping" and that washing line full of huge stained pants that belonged to Poor Mummy. I know they were women's pants but still. They are etched into my brain forever.

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 06/08/2019 18:51

He's a laugh a minute, is my dad...

I think my first serious boyfriend used to wear these too. I didn't have anything to compare them with and I didn't realise they were OMP, so it didn't bother me at all. Go for what's comfy, I say!

BedraggledBlitz · 06/08/2019 18:57

Gosh they look weathered.

I have the female equivalent, old belly warmers bought for the "weeks" post-baby. They are like a comforting hug for my nether region.

areyoubeingserviced · 06/08/2019 18:58

They are bloody awful
My dh wears the trunks and that’s what I prefer

runningtogetskinny · 06/08/2019 18:59

My DH has a range of trunks, boxers and these 'briefs' he particularly favours some that have worn away around the waist exposing the white elastic inside - sort of serrated?! Pleased others agree they are awful, he's very fashionable clothes wise, but knickers less so...... 😂

LadyBumclock · 06/08/2019 19:01

“Manties” 😂 Envy

They are proper old man pants and remind me of my ex before last, who was very tight (with money not pants!) and wore them until they would get big holes that his bollocks dangled out of. He wasn’t old he was in his 20s!

Laiste · 06/08/2019 19:02

My DH (late 30s) hates being 'supported' and prefers to ... i dunno swing free? He likes a jersey boxer. Not too flappy abouty, but not too clingy. I think he'd describe the one's in the OP as knickers.

I think my dad just wore the big old airtex Y fronts.

I have daughters and no sons so no idea what the young'uns are wearing.

3boysandabump · 06/08/2019 20:19

My 4 year old wears those.

8&9 year old wouldn't be seen dead in them and wear trunks (I think that's what they're called like tight boxers)

Dh wears really loose boxers so everything can hang free.

I couldn't complain about my dh wearing that type of pants though because I wear the high waisted woman version 😂

woodhill · 06/08/2019 20:40

Also victoria Wood the ballad of Freda and Barry

Wear your baggy Y-fronts with the loose elastic but
Let's do it, Let's do it tonight!

goose1964 · 06/08/2019 20:42

I just think that men wear what was fashionable when they were late teens and never bother changing. My boys wear boxers but DH wouldn't be seen dead in them.

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/08/2019 20:46

My old man neighbour wears them, I know because he puts them on the washing line in the communal garden.

bobstersmum · 06/08/2019 20:50

I'm trying to get dh out of these type of undies, ahem, not literally out of them as we speak, but out of wearing them and into something a bit better such as boxer type ones! Also one of my ds age 5 refuses point blank to wear these type of pants. He will only wear boxers!

Spinnaret · 06/08/2019 20:53

I am assuming hoping this is a brand new out the pack pair, hence being in the car and slightly crumpled.

DH has some similar ones for wearing under sports kit. Bought in an emergency when he couldn't get anything else when suddenly away overnight and caught without shorts. They are truly awful, he knows they are. And doesn't wear them when he is hoping for sex.

SweatyUnderboob · 06/08/2019 20:56

Just makes me think of...

Old Man Pants
CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 06/08/2019 21:38

Sweaty the boys are back in the barracks!

Spanielmadness · 07/08/2019 00:32

Thanks folks - my DP can now see it’s not just me with this opinion. It’s not going to stop him wearing them, but it’s great to be proved correct (again)!
Even his own twitter poll he created to offset my question here is telling him they are OMP and he has even lost some of his own followers - I presume aghast when they saw his choice of ball cradlers.
Your comments have given us lots to giggle about this evening!

My DP has these exact pants (are we sharing a partner or are they partners.. pantners.. in crime? Hard to believe there's another one out there)... They are most offputting.
In fact I've been wearing his never worn boxer type ones due to severe groin burn from Nair (recently posted on this) Men pants are the way forward..for me. anyway, and not ones like these.
He only ever wears this style. Always in grey or black but got caught short recently being on the road for two months abroad when working, not always able to do laundry so had to go pant shopping (any Yorkshire man's worst nightmare!) and now sports a turquoise collection in the same style. So he's now the David Icke of Icky pants.
