Old Man Pants

Lighthearted - of course my DP can wear what he wishes and I would never tell him what he can or can’t wear...........

My DP and I have a debate - I think the slips he wears and declares so comfortable are ‘old man pants’. He disagrees and feels that any young man would be pleased to wear such a comfortable pant.

So please, wise ones of mumsnet - AIBU to declare these ‘old man pants’?

Kinky - are they on your car dshboard ?

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 06/08/2019 15:50

My dad who is nearly 80 has a good selection of pants. My ds who is 38 does not.

ZaZathecat · 06/08/2019 15:52

No man under 60 would wear them - except my dh who says that nothing else is supportive enough!

anotheryearover · 06/08/2019 15:54

Deffo old man pants, my 70 year old dad wears them. DH wears cotton boxers and DS wears trunks

Pinkarsedfly · 06/08/2019 15:55

They are what are known in this house as ‘man knickers’.

60 year old DH wouldn’t be seen dead in them.

Siameasy · 06/08/2019 15:57

Awful. He would not be getting any of the old in out.

scaryteacher · 06/08/2019 15:58

My dh (under 60) also says nothing else is supportive enough. I will brook no interference in the sort of pants I wear (are you listening Mum?), so dh can wear whatever he feels are comfortable and supportive.

I have tried for decades to get him to try other pants, but having got him out of Y fronts, and having tried him in boxers, trunks etc, he always reverts to slips. Who am I to disagree?

JustMe81 · 06/08/2019 15:59

My toddler wears similar pants. I thankfully don’t know what my dad wears but my OH would never wear these.

EL8888 · 06/08/2019 15:59

They are old man pants

Also man knickers 😂

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 06/08/2019 16:01

My DH wears underpants after boxers caused some sort of complaint I can no longer remember. Anyway at the time I decided the problem was boxers were not supportive enough and bought him some Sloggi underpants and he liked them so much he made a permanent switch. They aren't particularly sexy but then neither are my high waisted Sainsbury’s knickers.

ThingInTheAttic · 06/08/2019 16:08

Ex-DH always wore these. I don't think they were "old man pants" when we first married, but that was in the 1990s! I did try to get him into boxers or those trunk-type things, but he wouldn't.
I think that yes, these days they're old man pants. When I was young old man pants were big y-fronts!
He also used to wear little Speedos on the beach, I hope to God that he doesn't still do that.

Time40 · 06/08/2019 16:10

They look perfectly all right to me, but I know nothing about trends in men's pants!

What I think of as old man's pants are those awful white Y-fronts; the Jockey shorts things. Horrible.

AryaStarkWolf · 06/08/2019 16:11

old man pants

IdrisElbasLeftTesticle · 06/08/2019 16:11

My dad (late sixties) wears these, as do my young children (5 and 7), with the addition of colourful dinosaurs/space monsters/pokemon and so forth. My husband (early forties) would recoil in horror.

ThingInTheAttic · 06/08/2019 16:11

LOLing at them possibly being on the car dashboard Grin Grin

MaMaMaMySharona · 06/08/2019 16:14

Oh dear god those are awful

CookieSue222 · 06/08/2019 16:16

Have you been in my husbands knicker drawer?
I put away several identical pairs this very morning (although we don't usually display them on the car dash).
Oh yes, and he's 60 too, so deffo old mans pants.

FiveLittlePigs · 06/08/2019 16:19

It's what OH wears. He finds them comfy, that's what matters.

He doesn't tell me what knickers I should wear and I don't tell him.

The days of ripping each other's pants off in a frenzy are long gone...! Grin

CookieSue222 · 06/08/2019 16:20

My son, who is considerably younger wouldn't be seen dead in them. I think DH purchases said pants from Matalan - just in case anyone was thinking of treating the man in their lives........

Eustasiavye · 06/08/2019 16:20

They are awful.

whothedaddy · 06/08/2019 16:20

Let him wear whatever is comfortable/ he wants to wear. We would all be horrified if our partners posted a picture of our comfy pants on social media and a load of blokes commented that anything other than a lace thong were granny pants.

BarbaraofSeville · 06/08/2019 16:23

What's wrong with them? They're inoffensive, fairly plain pants. What's a man supposed to wear?

Bouncebacker · 06/08/2019 16:23

DH wears quite good pants - just Calvin Klein trunks - but my mum buys them for his for Christmas which is a bit odd....

Cecily75 · 06/08/2019 16:24

Yup, my DH (in his 50s) wears those kinds. He thinks they're supportive and comfy.

And like FiveLittlePigs, he doesn't tell me what underwear l should have, so I leave him to his choice.

OhMsBeliever · 06/08/2019 16:28

They are horrible. I prefer fitted trunks. But then I'm sure most men probably think my huge knickers aren't a turn on. Luckily I'm single so no one has to put up with knickers and I don't have to be a judgypants Grinof men's undergarments.
