Old Man Pants

Lighthearted - of course my DP can wear what he wishes and I would never tell him what he can or can’t wear...........

My DP and I have a debate - I think the slips he wears and declares so comfortable are ‘old man pants’. He disagrees and feels that any young man would be pleased to wear such a comfortable pant.

So please, wise ones of mumsnet - AIBU to declare these ‘old man pants’?

As long as they are clean on every day then they are fine (DH has the same).

BadHairDyeDay · 06/08/2019 16:35

"Panties" + "man-pants" = "manties" Grin (sorry too much time on my hands at work!)

MmmBlowholes · 06/08/2019 16:40

Yep, grandad pants

msmith501 · 06/08/2019 16:44

Comfy... better than a G string or man-thong!

stucknoue · 06/08/2019 16:46

They look like sports pants. They sell them everywhere so some men must wear them but no one I'm close enough to have seen in their underwear - men walk around in boxers in friends houses in a way women don't!

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 06/08/2019 16:51

@ThingInTheAttic men in speedos Envy
Same for men in Ron Hills

AuntieMarys · 06/08/2019 16:54

My dh is 60 and I would leave him if he wore those.

fedup21 · 06/08/2019 16:55

DH wore these when we first started going out when he was 24-I thought they were hideous. He soon bought trunks and has worn them ever since!

HarrietSchulenberg · 06/08/2019 16:58

No, old man pants are enormous Y fronts, especially in off-white. I know this because my dad is an old man (82) and wears them. Your DH's pants would be considered youthful and risque by my dad.

I did once have a noyfriend who wore these. He said they were comfy and more supportive than boxers but they were vile things nonetheless.

pooopypants · 06/08/2019 17:11

The only time my DH has ever worn these is post (failed) vasectomy. He wouldn't be seen dead in them

I unfortunately know that my FIL wears this kind (he is almost 70 though)

More to the point - why are they on the car dash!?!?!? I'd expect something frilly or crotchless to be stashed in the glovebox!

Zaphodsotherhead · 06/08/2019 17:16

CookieSue at least your OH goes to Matalan. Mine goes to Boyes (very cheap shop) and buys his. They are hideous, like Old Man Pants but slightly too small, so have something of the 'swimming trunk' effect.

Ghastly. But I wear Big Knickers and woe betide anyone who calls those Old Lady Pants...

Allli · 06/08/2019 17:27

Gawd, Ha ha, that fair cheered me up. Pants. Honestly so funny, and possibly on a car dashboard, hilarious. Nearly wet my own pants there, which incidentally, have a hole in the side. At least your old man in his old-man-pants doesn’t have a hole in his his. Oh gawd, those remind me of budgie smuggler speedos. Beouff!! Grin

marvellousnightforamooncup · 06/08/2019 17:34

Everyone should wear comfy pants. I wear the female M&S equivalent no fucks given to sex appeal.

LakieLady · 06/08/2019 17:36

DP wears those! He's 59, but has worn them for at least 30 years*. He says boxers and trunks don't give his tackle sufficient support.

He has a very nice bum, and in his snug, supportive pants it looks especially attractive - like 2 apples in a hanky.

My NDN is known as Mr BigPants, because we used to see huge white Y-fronts hanging onn their washing line. Mr BP is a scrawny little git and these things must have measured about a foot across the crotch. We think he goes commando now, as we never see male pants on their line. Grin

*not the same ones - they get replaced as they get shabby.

RiotAndAlarum · 06/08/2019 17:40

DS (11) says they are probably OMP because "they're sort of high up."

Was he the sort of "young man" your DP had in mind? Grin

DrDreReturns · 06/08/2019 17:47

Lol. Only time I wore something like that was post vasectomy when I needed more support! Otherwise it's boxer shorts for me.

jackernanna · 06/08/2019 17:50

Why has nobody else asked why they are...wet...Envy not envy.

Trillis · 06/08/2019 17:56

My DH (late 40s) wears those. He switched to them post vasectomy, liked the support and comfort, so stayed with them. I say go with whatever you feel most comfortable or happiest in, just like I do. M&S granny pants all the way, here!

Livpool · 06/08/2019 18:07

Old man pants!

My DS (he is 3) has a couple of similar pairs but they look so weird on him so I bought trunks to replace them

ThingInTheAttic · 06/08/2019 18:11

More to the point - why are they on the car dash!?!?!? I'd expect something frilly or crotchless to be stashed in the glovebox!

I suspect the Op's DP has found those styles less comfortable, and thus has given up on them Wink Grin

ThingInTheAttic · 06/08/2019 18:16

Why has nobody else asked why they are...wet...Envy not envy.

I don't think they are wet...are they? I'm on the laptop and I did a pretty close zoom-in to double-check. Clearly, I am over-invested in this thread.

woodhill · 06/08/2019 18:17

Not keen and DH may have the odd pair, again comfy when he had an infection in that area. FIL used to wear them

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 06/08/2019 18:18

My 75-year-old father wears them. He told me once (drunkenly, at Christmas) that men need more support for their undercarriage as they age, because things tend to go a bit slack and stretchy, and if he wore boxers he would be "knocking over toddlers" as he went around corners. So I think these old man pants are actually performing a valuable public service.

Owlypants · 06/08/2019 18:19

My dp wears these and i will admit that i did steal a pair from him. They are actually really comfy

userxx · 06/08/2019 18:21

It's a no from me.
