To not leave holiday villa at designated time tomorrow?

We are staying in a rural village in the south of France and are supposed to check out of our villa at 10.00 am. Howver, tonight there is a concert in the village square (our villa overlooks this square) and there is a band that have played a 7 hour set at FULL VOLUME. They have gone from Ed Sheeran and Coldplay covers to full on heavy metal and still going strong at 2.14am local time. Currently we're into about the 10th minute of their homage to Feels Like Teen Spirit. I have my alarm set for 8am so that we can be up early to finish packing and cleaning. Aibu to move my alarm back by at least an hour? We won't be ready to leave by 10 but I have a long drive tomorrow and it is not safe when so sleep deprived! Needless to say I am enormously fucked off!

You're supposed to be out at 10. Be out at 10.

nocoolnamesleft · 03/08/2019 01:26

Does the band mean the next guests will be arriving late? And that the person coming to clean between guests will be arriving late?

sandgrown · 03/08/2019 01:27

Could be awkward for the owner if new guests arriving tomorrow and the concert is not their fault .

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 03/08/2019 01:29

The next guests are not allowed to arrive until 4pm.

The cleaners will arrive expecting you gone, and the next guests left hanging around maybe after a long drive too. It’s not their fault. You are being unreasonable.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 03/08/2019 01:32

The cleaner can start cleaning while we are still here. Concert just finishing and revellers going home. I'm going to try and sleep now but doubt it will happen as I'm so wound up. Seriously, have you ever heard of a public performance anywhere that was allowed to continue until 2.30am?

You'll probably get charged a fee. Don't stay past 10, it's very rude.

TheWickerWoman · 03/08/2019 01:42

Another hour wouldn’t put anyone out, I’d push it for an hour but if you need more then contact the owners? You May be able to stay a bit longer for a fee.

DeRigueurMortis · 03/08/2019 01:42

I appreciate it's shit.

However that's not a reason to spread it further to the cleaners and the next people on the villa.

Clear out the bedrooms/bathrooms and at least give the cleaners space to start.

Gather all your suitcases/stuff into a small area near the door.

You knew the deal. I understand you're tired but the concert is not the fault of the villa owner/cleaners etc.

Get up, pack up and sleep on the plane.

Littlechocola · 03/08/2019 01:42

Yabvu, it’s smells like teen spirit. HTH.

m4mmy0f0ne · 03/08/2019 01:43

Feels like teen spirit

canihaveacoffeeplease · 03/08/2019 01:43

It's so rude to stay past 10. It's not the owners fault, and certainly not the cleaners fault. It's not fair to the cleaners to expect them to start cleaning around you and your family and things. You need to be out by 10.

Purpleartichoke · 03/08/2019 01:45

We ran late once. The cleaner showed up at exit time exactly on time and refused to start cleaning until we cleared out. Thankfully we were only about 5 minutes behind.

steff13 · 03/08/2019 01:46

You would be rude to stay, and it's Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Ribrabrob · 03/08/2019 01:48

Wow you sound dramatic. What do you do when you have a real problem?

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 03/08/2019 01:52

I know it's It Smells Like Teen Spirit, thanks. That edit function would have been handy. It's a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom villa with pool and garden. I'm sure the cleaners can find things to do while we're emptying the dishwasher/putting the rubbish out/loading up the car. I would have liked a warning about the concert when we booked as it has blighted a day of our short holidat. To the pp who suggested I sleep on the plane - did you read what I wrote about a long drive? I'm not getting on a plane.

If you know the check out time, it seems unfair on the owners to stay beyond that. I say this as a very light sleeper who can't stand any noise at night. Personally, I would have used the extra time awake tonight to finish packing everything and have it all 100% ready so all I had to do was chuck my toothbrush in a bag and leave tomorrow. THEN I'd set an alarm for 9 (or maybe 9.30 and get breakfast on the road if that's an option).

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 03/08/2019 01:53

It sounds awful, but the late, noisy concert is in no way the fault of the villa owner.

In theory, the cleaner has 6 hours in which to clean, but you don't know how many other jobs s/he has to do in that time and how this one fits in with the rest of her/his day.

Lunde · 03/08/2019 01:54

If you are still there when the cleaners arrive you may be charged an extra rental day for not vacating according to your contract and possibly an additional cleaning fee for slowing down the poor cleaners who probably have a huge list of (empty) properties that must be cleaned between 10 and 4

MothOnMyComputer · 03/08/2019 01:54

Just ask them. We had a late villa leave a couple of months ago as dsd was ill.

LightDrizzle · 03/08/2019 02:14

Wow! It wouldn’t occur to me that getting to sleep late or having it interrupted justifies missing a check out time.
Do you always get your 8 hours come hell or high water? How do you think people with small children manage these things? Do you turn up late for work if you can’t sleep?
It’s annoying but it happens.

HennyPennyHorror · 03/08/2019 02:16

The cleaner can start cleaning while we are still here

Hmm You don't have the authority to decide that.

If I were that cleaner no way would I be doing my work around strangers. Not safe. Probably not allowed.

AngelasAshes · 03/08/2019 02:22

We just rented a villa and when we were leaving a half hour BEFORE the check out time, the cleaners were just pulling in the drive.
These changeover days have to run like clockwork. You can’t realistically check out late like in a hotel.

timshelthechoice · 03/08/2019 02:23

Since you were up why didn't you finish the packing and load up the car so you could sleep till 9 and be on the road by 10? WTAF? You'd still have had 6 hours of sleep, plenty. Not the owners fault there was a concert. I'd charge you an extra day, in fact, it might be written into your contract because of pisstakers who believe they're not 'safe' to drive on 6 hours of sleep. FFS, woman up!

CocoLoco87 · 03/08/2019 02:57

We've recently been abroad and near the hotel on the Friday night was an outdoor live band playing till 3am full volume at the beach. It was horrifically loud so I sympathise, but you still need to be out by 10.
