To not leave holiday villa at designated time tomorrow?

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 03/08/2019 01:20

We are staying in a rural village in the south of France and are supposed to check out of our villa at 10.00 am. Howver, tonight there is a concert in the village square (our villa overlooks this square) and there is a band that have played a 7 hour set at FULL VOLUME. They have gone from Ed Sheeran and Coldplay covers to full on heavy metal and still going strong at 2.14am local time. Currently we're into about the 10th minute of their homage to Feels Like Teen Spirit. I have my alarm set for 8am so that we can be up early to finish packing and cleaning. Aibu to move my alarm back by at least an hour? We won't be ready to leave by 10 but I have a long drive tomorrow and it is not safe when so sleep deprived! Needless to say I am enormously fucked off!

Another hour wouldn’t put anyone out

If a professional cleaner, they probably have several homes to clean during the 10-4 time slot, so if they can't do yours on time, it could well mean that they and another family somewhere are put out.

Or if they've just the one, perhaps they've somewhere else to be after they've cleaned yours, i.e. going out for lunch, or the afternoon, etc.

It's a shame for you, but if 10am departure has been specified, then you need to adhere to it.

RJnomore1 · 03/08/2019 06:40

Who the fuck would actually send that email!

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 03/08/2019 06:42

Be out by 10, sleep in a service station/go to local beauty spot for couple of hours.

It's unfair on the cleaners.... They're often on majorly tight timetable. I've done it.. It's not easy cleaning around people. Pals who have a house... They have to allow a full 6 hours between bookings to allow time to fully clean /sort any problem before the next guests

Cheby · 03/08/2019 06:42

I’d have finished the packing while awake OP, had a shower before bed, gone to bed when the noise finished and slept until 9.30.

Then just get up, brush teeth, throw clothes on and leave on time.

RadioSpice · 03/08/2019 06:44

She's just having a moan - no massive drama. No doubt they'll be out of the villa by 10am and ALL WILL BE WELL

She's not just 'having a moan' though? She's on AIBU asking if she's BU.

Wingingthiswholething · 03/08/2019 06:45

Very common in villages in France and Spain during the summer. Not ideal but YABU to overstay.

Wingingthiswholething · 03/08/2019 06:46

Also who packs on the day that they are due to leave shudders

PenelopeFlintstone · 03/08/2019 06:46

The cleaners could go and start at a different house. All houses have probably been told to be out by 10. Such sticklers for rules on here.

Bluntness100 · 03/08/2019 06:48

I think uou can text and ask for a late check out, but just like in a hotel you don't get to miss the check out time.

It's not thr villa owners fault you can't sleep nor is it their responsibility to let you know what's on in the vicinity,

They would be within their rights to charge you, potentially an extra day if you don't vacate at the agreed time, you have rented the villa till ten am. You have no right to be there after.

user1483387154 · 03/08/2019 06:49

you could but you may be charged extra which you would have to pay.

TheoriginalLEM · 03/08/2019 06:51

YABU because now I have a head full of nirvana

Nearlyfriyay987654 · 03/08/2019 06:53

@Nextphonewontbesamsung very typical for french fetes around this time of year, most villages have them in the first weeks of August and yes they go on until 1/2am......

itsboiledeggsagain · 03/08/2019 06:55

Im sorry you haven't enjoyed France. Locals are a bugger aren't they.

Medievalist · 03/08/2019 06:56

The cleaner can start cleaning while we are still here
*
You don't have the authority to decide that.

If I were that cleaner no way would I be doing my work around strangers. Not safe. Probably not allowed.*

How ridiculous. Of course a cleaner can start work before the op has completely vacated the premises. We've stayed in countless places in the UK and abroad where, especially when the kids were small, we never quite made it out of the door on time. We just made sure at least the kitchen was empty on time for them to start on. It's never been a problem and we've never faced an additional charge.

averylongtimeago · 03/08/2019 06:59

I have a gite in France. My guests are due to leave at 10, the next ones arrive at 4.
It takes me that long to turn it round on my own - 3 bedrooms, beds to strip and remake, 2 bathrooms with a bath and shower- the whole house has to be absolutely spotless.
The temperature this afternoon is going to be mid 30's ....

I will be outside the door with my cleaning stuff at 10. DH will be wheeling out the lawnmower.

It is impossible to "clean round" guests. They inevitably pee in the toilet you've just cleaned, kids bounce on the freshly made bed and they walk on your just washed floor. Besides: health and safety- if a child messes with the cleaning products or someone slips on the wet floor or falls over the hoover wire?

As for the noise, well that's village fetes for you. Ours is on the 10th August- the music starts at 8ish, fireworks at about 11, (last year for 45 mins) then more dancing until the small hours or when everyone goes home 2-3 am normally. It's how it is- I tell guests, most go and join in or watch the fireworks, all the dates are published-

I suggest next time you go away a quick google will tell you any local events so you can avoid them or perhaps you could email the local Maire to ask that the commune keep things quiet for the duration of your holiday?

TheoriginalLEM · 03/08/2019 06:59

Why didn't you just go and join in??

We camp and often have to leave by 10. It's a massive ball ache because we have to pack not just cases but all of our excessive kit and dismantle the tent. More of a pain is that it doesn't allow the tent to dry out if there's alot of dew on it. But you know what - we fucking manage!!! Or if we want to be a bit more relaxed we pay to stay longer.

Why not call the company and ask? Then the clean can be shifted to later in their schedule and everyone is happy.

HelloyouKant · 03/08/2019 07:04

Honestly, I have NEVER checked out of anywhere on time.

madeabooboo · 03/08/2019 07:06

Well @HelloyouKant nice to know you think you are your time is so much more important than anyone else

OhTheShoes · 03/08/2019 07:07

*I’d have finished the packing while awake OP, had a shower before bed, gone to bed when the noise finished and slept until 9.30.

Yes 100% this! Always pack up the evening before you need to leave. I would have been cleaning and all sorts.

You do have my complete sympathies though. My aunts used to drive us to France and it's such a long way. I think you will need to pull over and have a nap in the car at some point.

WinnieTheW0rm · 03/08/2019 07:08

"The cleaners could go and start at a different house"

Yes, because they're psychic, know which ones are empty by when, and are always to drive forwards and back through rural France to see whether any of the properties have been vacated on time.

Turefu · 03/08/2019 07:10

I run cleaning business, holiday cottages included. Sometimes guests staying late and they’re nightmare. People finishing packing, children eating their breakfasts , sometimes even still in their beds. They often comment: “ You can start cleaning , while we’re still here”. Family walking around the house make cleaning much more difficult . There’re still toothbrushes in the bathroom, so can’t start there, people getting dressed in bedrooms , so can’t start there, breakfast in the kitchen and dining room, so not there neither. About comment: “Cleaners can go to different house”. No, they can’t , as it takes time and makes more expensive for them, driving costs. Fridays are the most common day for holiday changeover and can do four on very tight schedule. It’s easy to say :” it’s only an hour later”. This hour means, that cleaners probably won’t be able to clean the place , won’t get paid for it and new guests won’t have their cottage ready after long drive.
Worth calling owner though and ask, when new people arrive. If not the same day, it may be different and gives him chance to call cleaners to not to come that day, reschedule .

londonrach · 03/08/2019 07:10

Its rude not to check out at the correct time and effect the cleaners. Its not the owners fault re your lack of sleep. I cant image anyone who doesnt leave at the correct time. The owner would charge you quite rightly one days rent if you not left on time. Yabu for even considering it

Poloshot · 03/08/2019 07:10

What a ridiculous suggestion, get up and leave stop being so self entitled

MsTSwift · 03/08/2019 07:11

If you send that email as suggested they will think you are mental

PrimeraVez · 03/08/2019 07:13

Sorry but I would laugh so hard if I received that email.

I understand you’re pissed off and I would also be irrationally looking for someone to blame in that situation but surely you do realise it’s morning to do with the owner and you’re being a bit of a wimp to say you’re going to be too tired to drive.

I don’t think you need to be closing the door behind you by 9.59 but I think it’s wrong of you to expect to be able to leave later without actually checking.

Just call first thing and ask for a late check out. We do it all the time and rarely get told no.
