To not leave holiday villa at designated time tomorrow?

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 03/08/2019 01:20

We are staying in a rural village in the south of France and are supposed to check out of our villa at 10.00 am. Howver, tonight there is a concert in the village square (our villa overlooks this square) and there is a band that have played a 7 hour set at FULL VOLUME. They have gone from Ed Sheeran and Coldplay covers to full on heavy metal and still going strong at 2.14am local time. Currently we're into about the 10th minute of their homage to Feels Like Teen Spirit. I have my alarm set for 8am so that we can be up early to finish packing and cleaning. Aibu to move my alarm back by at least an hour? We won't be ready to leave by 10 but I have a long drive tomorrow and it is not safe when so sleep deprived! Needless to say I am enormously fucked off!

I once stayed in a cottage with a check-in at 4 and a check-out at 9.30, with the express note that 10 was the very latest. We were loading up the car at 9.30 and had just finished at 10. The cleaners arrived at 10, we passed them on the drive. If we’d stayed in bed another hour, it absolutely would have been delaying them and would not have been fair. I know it feels like an hour won’t matter, but it matters to people who will have other jobs to go to and don’t plan on guests overstaying. If you’re not already up and about then get up now!

whattodo2019 · 03/08/2019 07:55

V rude to stay past 10am. Concert or no concert.
It's life, tough shit.

BillieEilish · 03/08/2019 07:55

The cleaner will refuse to clean while you are there. It is simply not possible and beds and bathrooms and kitchens are the first thing to do.

Thoroughly.

Breakfast? No doubt it is dangerous to drive on an empty stomach Hmm Idiot

PooWillyBumBum · 03/08/2019 07:56

Nah, leave at 10. Suck it up and pick up coffee and croissants to eat in the car on the way. It’s just one of those things.

BillieEilish · 03/08/2019 07:59

Medievalist How many totally reliable people do you think are available, in August from precisely 10/2pm? ONCE A WEEK ON A SATURDAY in rural France?

Hardly any.

It's not a matter of 'hiring extra cleaners'

pepperpot99 · 03/08/2019 08:03

One late night isn't going to kill you, OP. Drink lots of coffee and be out by 10am, otherwise you are being very inconsiderate to the cleaning staff.

Medievalist · 03/08/2019 08:03

Medievalist How many totally reliable people do you think are available, in August from precisely 10/2pm? ONCE A WEEK ON A SATURDAY in rural France?

Maybe you need to pay more?
And no need to shout dear. Or to be so rude to the op.

pepperpot99 · 03/08/2019 08:04

Having said that, I do pity you having to endure covers of Ed Sheeran songs - the original is bad enough but a poor imitation? how dreadful Wink.

FrannySalinger · 03/08/2019 08:06

Oh my god that email! I'm almost hoping op actually sent it Shock

Itsyersel · 03/08/2019 08:07

@Nextphonewontbesamsung you sound very self entitled, Leave when you have paid to be there till and do not put the cleaners out!

rookiemere · 03/08/2019 08:07

I love the idea that the gite owner should have warned OP in advance about the village fete Hmm- seriously no, just no. Also I'm sure OP would not be happy if they had arrived at the property and it wasn't fully cleaned due to previous guests arriving late.

Totally understand being tired and worried about a long drive. One time in Tenerife we were kept up on the first night by an all night rave with no air con in the apartment- DH was all for packing up again and finding somewhere else to stay, thankfully was just the one night - but being angry at the gite owners is irrational.

thisnamechanger · 03/08/2019 08:09

That email is bloody funny Grin Love how it's in incredibly MNetty English. Definitely going to make a world of sense to your average rural french gite owner. I suspect it would end on Mamansnet Grin

peoplepleaser1 · 03/08/2019 08:09

Hahaha that email is utterly ridiculous and entitled!

Angelf1sh · 03/08/2019 08:10

Oh I’ve just read the email, that is excellent! I’m assuming it’s a joke, but I really hope it’s not and that Betsy has sent things like that in the past 😂😂

BarbaraofSeville · 03/08/2019 08:12

The concert will have been well publicised with posters etc in the village anyway.

OK, locals will know that it's the first Friday in August, but holiday makers won't so it's nice to know that these things are on, so you can attend and maybe make sure you make a start on the packing and have a siesta in the afternoon/early evening and then go to the fete and concert, which sounds like great fun.

I know it wasn't the OPs intention, but this thread makes me want to holiday in France in the summer, which is probably something we'll never do, because we don't do peak summer holidays.

origamiunicorn · 03/08/2019 08:12

It sounds awful, but the late, noisy concert is in no way the fault of the villa owner.

This. Also not the next guests fault either. Why not do the packing when you were up due to the concert?

KUGA · 03/08/2019 08:12

Pack your belongings the night before ,that way you can set your alarm an hour later.
You will have an hour to brush your teeth etc and have time for a drink and a slice of toast.
And still vacate on time.

Maybe instead of squeezing as much profit as possible out of their holiday accommodation owners could employ more cleaners so that people can check out at a more reasonable time - say 11-12?

Because the next booking then couldn’t get into the property until 5-6pm. It’s not fair on them.

10am is a perfectly reasonable time to be out. You just need to have everything packed the night before.

BillieEilish · 03/08/2019 08:15

It is not a matter of money when getting a cleaner for 3 hours a week. Just during the summer.

But you clearly don't understand that Medievalist and why would you? Unless you managed holiday lets, you wouldn't.

Right, off to clean with my cleaner.

mummmy2017 · 03/08/2019 08:15

I know someone who used their teenage child's inheritance to go on a 4 star holiday, just the two of them .
When she came home she tired to get a refund as there was loud music all night...
Are you Intending to ask for a refund too?

stucknoue · 03/08/2019 08:15

You need to leave by 10, they need to clean for the next people and you only paid until 10. It's not their fault

OMGshefoundmeout · 03/08/2019 08:15

I think you’ve led a sheltered life OP. I often stay at my ILs flat in a busy U.K. seaside town. When there are festivals or parades on, the music on the green in front of her house regularly continues until 2 or 2.30. Then there is the clearing up, then the sound of drunken revellers making their way home. I generally have a glass of wine and then sleep through it.

You sound incredibly entitled. Your logic seems to be that because your sleep was disturbed the owners and cleaners somehow deserve to be inconvenienced.

If you are tired on your long drive, pull in somewhere and have a nap.

luckylavender · 03/08/2019 08:15

You've already decided so why are you asking. Prepare to be charged.

Clusterphuck · 03/08/2019 08:18

1000 and your out love.
