I think to add to that accolade justanotherposter he's the worst opposition leader in history, isn't he?

I mean sure if causing the Labour party membership to rise over 500,000 and gave Labour the largest vote share of any Labour government since Attlee in the 2017 election, if thats a failure then sure Hmm

Tavannach · 28/07/2019 17:53

I don't understand the vilification of Corbyn at all, and a lot of that by his own party.

It's because he doesn't respect anyone else's views, and he certainly doesn't try to incorporate them into his vision. He fudges on issues he doesn't agree with - second referendum and anti-semitism in the Labour party being the standouts.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 28/07/2019 17:54

How did that work out for Ed Jobchange?

Cinammoncake · 28/07/2019 17:55

Corbyn lost the 2017 election so he wasn't that great. He's got worse since and he's doing terribly. He didn't provide any opposition to Brexit. He has no charisma and comes across as useless. He hasn't squashed the anti semitism in his party.

Sunshine1239 · 28/07/2019 17:58

Corbyn and labour will never win over conservatives as they are essentially a Brexit party too so won’t get the remain voice

They say they’d advocate for remain to avoid a Tory brexit but if they win they still want to Brexit and voters know this

Alsohuman · 28/07/2019 17:58

This looks like leadership to me.

Speaking to The Times top Labour figures indicated Labour’s membership has dropped to 480,000, a fall of over 80,000 from the December 2017 figure.

Some insiders believe the true figure is significantly lower once lapsed members are excluded.

Addressing The Times one Labour MP commented: “We are haemorrhaging members, equally balanced between stalwarts who have finally given up because of antisemitism and young idealists who joined because of Jeremy Corbyn and feel betrayed over Brexit.

“There’s nothing to suggest that the fall isn’t going to go down beyond 450,000.

It is a total disgrace on his part to fail to provide an effective opposition during this crisis.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 28/07/2019 18:06

I think the press (and media in general) have really done a number on Corbyn over the years. I've never seen so much engineered hysteria.

No opposition realistically has a chance with the hostile media as it stands.

Alsohuman · 28/07/2019 18:07

I think Corbyn’s done a number on himself.

They lied

Well of course its a failure, he didn't get anywhere near enough seats against a divided party & a v poor campaigner in T.May.

Back then i wanted JC to prove his critics wrong but he hasn't, in fact his inability to get down off the fence over Brexit & provide leadership, has destroyed his GE's chances, which is a tragedy, we are probably going to get Brexit and another 5 years of these idiots partly because of him.

He needs to accept his limitations and go, for the good of his party and country.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 28/07/2019 18:24

But considering the 'Labours going to get wiped out' narrative that was being peddled at the time lost the Tory's a majority and that was after having to fight another round of bollocks the PLP threw at him

Cinammoncake · 28/07/2019 18:28

I always feel with JC that he wants to win by default rather than by actually doing anything. Things are different now. We've had a couple more years of crap and seen how badly Brexit is going. We've got a solidly anti Brexit party to vote for as an alternative in the LibDems. The antisemitism thing is huge for people.

daisypond · 28/07/2019 18:30

The poll in the Independent today says Labour would surge over the Conservatives, despite the “Boris bounce”, if Jeremy Corbyn steps down.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 28/07/2019 18:32

Just dont say I didnt warn you about another Tory/Lib Dem coalition theres a lot of vulnerable and disabled people that arent going to survive another 5 years of a Tory led government

BertrandRussell · 28/07/2019 18:33

“I think the press (and media in general) have really done a number on Corbyn over the years. I've never seen so much engineered hysteria”

And it’s being ramped up now- the Tories keep saying that a goal is to “defeat Jeremy Corbyn” Not Labour-Corbyn.

jasjas1973 · 28/07/2019 18:42

Whoever Labours next leader is, they will face the tory media... if they choose Starmer it will be "Is Britain safe in the hands of the man who failed to prosecute Worboys (the taxi rapist) properly?"

Cooper will have them drag up her husband's political career and the global financial crash will become solely labour's fault and Coopers in particular, the truth wont matter, As trump, johnson & farage have proven.

If all else fails, they bang on and on and on about anti-semitism, regardless of the facts, ignoring tory racism.

Alsohuman · 28/07/2019 18:44

There’s not going to be another Tory/Libdem coalition while I’ve got a hole in my arse. Firstly because the Libdems still haven’t been forgiven for the last one and secondly because Bollocks to Brexit.

Andysbestadventure · 28/07/2019 18:45

sigh imagine if Andy Burnham had been voted leader instead.

But nah. Everyone voted for teenage heart throb JC.

ragged · 28/07/2019 18:46

I think I need to stop taking an interest in politics.
The soap opera did entertain me, fascinate me even, but now I find it all just so depressing.
I feel increasingly alienated. My type (expert, foreign-born, leftie intellectual) is so much not wanted. I rate pragmatism, consensus building & rule of law as highly important. Boastful bullshitters are the flavour of month, instead. They make my skin crawl. I don't have anything in common with the world that made them be in power.

Maybe psychology or cookery podcasts could fill the void if I want something to listen to like I used to listen to radio? Cookery is so boring but harmless. I could go to sleep listening to those, maybe.

The80sweregreat · 28/07/2019 18:48

The anti Semitic allegations, the ' labour wrecked the economy ' and how JC is nothing more than a ' commie' will ensure that the LP won't ever get a majority with him in charge as only a few papers support him and the Mirror asked him to stand down years ago! They are not keen and they were labours only ally for years on Fleet Street.
The message about the left behind in our society and the inequality will be airbrushed away.

Cinammoncake · 28/07/2019 18:55

When it comes to Brexit, then the narrative is all 'people knew what they were voting for'
When it comes to JC, people can't believe their own eyes and have been misled by the media and the media will turn them against any future candidate.
I don't think so. Because despite the smears against Jo Swinson, I'd still vote for her. If a new better labour leader got in, I might switch back. That wouldn't depend on the media.
Corbyn has something unlikeable and untrustworthy about him imo. If he cared about the country and its worst off people, he would resign. His stubborn refusal to step aside just makes him seem worse.

BTW, if age is no bar, can we have Ken Clarke instead please for the Tories.

Alsohuman · 28/07/2019 18:57

Ken Clarke - now you’re talking.

ITgrrl · 28/07/2019 19:20

Libdems are all about anti-Brexit, so why should they join forces with JC)? He is in favour of delivering Brexit, and has pretty much said he wouldnt vote Remain if there was another referendum.
