I don’t want him to but what is the alternative!?

OP posts:

That was an epic burn.

I meant no ill, we have crossed paths many times before, but if you look at her posts she is the epitome of why labour are struggling. Anti Neoliberal running in Milliband era and suddenly worried about GDP with brexit, on every anti corbyn thread saying you don't vote for the pm but party so should ignore corbyn.

She has had to resort to being pedantic, as I am not white, remainer who is openly neoliberal, and yet can see the benefits in a point based immigration system, the guardian hasn't given her a new line of attack yet, pretty much like the majority of mumsnet.

Does no one see that NO DEAL is actually a failure? They will have achieved nothing despite their foot stamping. Honestly.

A deal, WA tweaking etc. might be a win, but anything other than that is an abject failure now I think.

But of course if that happens it will be spun as EU/ROI fault. The signs are there.

Justanotherlurker · 27/07/2019 21:16

But of course if that happens it will be spun as EU/ROI fault. The signs are there.

If we get to a no deal, then of course the blame can be spread across the eu.

This paternalistic approach to the EU is part of the reason why I as a remainer will argue the toss, we could never have reformed the EU from inside

Peregrina · 28/07/2019 09:59

we could never have reformed the EU from inside

I think we could have had a good try. Instead for us it was all about special deals for ourselves.

LakieLady · 28/07/2019 10:25

The adult, managerial choice for Labour leader would be Keir Starmer, but I'd really love to see Emily Thornberry (aka Lady Nugee😬) take on Boris..she has wit , looks like she could drink him under the table and would treat him like a naughty schoolboy whilst easily demolishing his overblown oratory . ..won't happen but just a fun thought

I don't think it's unfeasible that Thornberry could become leader.

She's mercifully free of the taint of Blairism, unlike Cooper. She's perceived to be on the left, but not dangerously so. She's very able, articulate and can think on her feet. She gives a great speech. And a lot of people in the party think it's high time it had a woman leader. She seems to have recovered from her "white van man" gaffe.

My biggest reservation is that she might be perceived as too posh and schoolmarmish to appeal to the voters Labour need to regain/retain in the former industrial heartlands.

Alsohuman · 28/07/2019 10:54

She might be posh but she’s not schoolmarmish. She swears like a sailor and is very grounded. I’d vote Labour again in a heartbeat if she was leader.

Blowingthroughthejasmine · 28/07/2019 10:59

Peregrina how long do people have to try for? Andrea ledsom was on some sort of eu project and it was after trying to work on it she realised the eu cannot be adapted.
Same with gisella Stuart.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 28/07/2019 11:13

I find her really patronizing she is certainly intelligent but Lady Nugee of Islington I think many voters have had enough of that sect of Labour

And no that white van remark will not go away come an election campaign and neither will her property portfolio

Labour do not need to impress their middle class mainly city dwelling voters they need to get back their working class voters especially in the north she is not the person to do that

Figmentofmyimagination · 28/07/2019 11:39

People got very wound up about the backstop but ignored the other aspect of the WA which was crying out for people to get upset about - the requirement for the uk to be bound by all new EU Directives and Regulations enacted during the transition period but with no right even to be in the room. How did negotiators agree to this?

CrotchetyQuaver · 28/07/2019 11:41

Far too early to say if he's likely to be any good or not!

The80sweregreat · 28/07/2019 11:45

Yes I do think he'll win because his promising everything!
Not costed out but that won't matter too much to most Tories.

Alsohuman · 28/07/2019 11:50

I disagree. A lot of Tories are questioning where the magic money rainforest has suddenly sprung from and are muttering darkly about “bungs for votes”. At least, the one I’m married to is.

timeforakinderworld · 28/07/2019 11:53

Far too early to say if he's likely to be any good or not!

Not really. We know how he's done as Mayor (bad) and Foreign secretary (terrible).

The80sweregreat · 28/07/2019 12:01

I've just seen JC on sky news.
He is still about.

The80sweregreat · 28/07/2019 12:05

It's all ok though, Gove said ' it's gonna be ok we're ready'
For what is a bit vague

The80sweregreat · 28/07/2019 12:22

Will they grill Boris and co about money?
I bet they don't.

Alsohuman · 28/07/2019 12:39

I bet they don’t either. He’s promised a spending spree that puts Labour’s in the last election in the shade but Amber Rudd is keeping very quiet about magic money trees now. As are all the msm.

elprup · 28/07/2019 12:49

What is MSM?

Alsohuman · 28/07/2019 12:51

Sorry - mainstream media.

elprup · 28/07/2019 12:51

Not costed out but that won't matter too much to most Tories.

If he scraps HS2 and we no longer have to pay the £39 billion to the EU, how much money will that free up - around £80 billion? So I suppose that could find his plans for extra police, rail links up north etc. I may be wrong on the figures though.

elprup · 28/07/2019 12:52

@Alsohuman thank you!

wichitalinemanswoman · 28/07/2019 12:58

Yvette Cooper or Kier Starmer need to be Labour leader to give them a fighting chance.

MaxNormal · 28/07/2019 13:04

If he scraps HS2 and we no longer have to pay the £39 billion to the EU, how much money will that free up - around £80 billion?

Assuming there's a no-deal Brexit, it will cost a shite side more than 80 billion so I'm really not sure where his promised largesse is going to come from then. Selling off the NHS maybe.

beccarocksbaby · 28/07/2019 13:13

Tragically Labour are not ever going to win with JC at the helm thinking he is the real JC.

Lib Dem present no real opposition and are still rebuilding.

Boris would walk it the odious little tit

The80sweregreat · 28/07/2019 13:19

The tories have been cultivating the money trees put the back.
These are different money trees to labour ones and must be called Esquire.
