Where even is he - down the allotment?

Labour can't get rid of him! don't you think they want to?

The nature of the membership is such that any Labour politician who joins a vote of no confidence would get deselected, and the furthest left leadership candidate will always win.

Labour, the party I love, is screwed until the make-up of the membership changes.

I guess that means a further left party needs to draw the loonies away.

ChristmasInJuly · 25/07/2019 12:33

He’s abhorrent. If he got the sack, I’d consider voting Labour again.

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 12:35

The Tories are obsessed with ' stopping Corbyn' . When Boris said it on Tuesday I rolled my eyes.
His making a good job of doing this himself , they don't need to help out in way at all. He is not a threat, his more of a gift that keeps on giving.
I wish the Labour Party would send him down the allotment and lock him away with his tomatoes then elect a new leader.

colourlessgreenidea · 25/07/2019 12:38

Its interesting how the anti corbyn threads spring up now the hard right are in power.

What could be said in a pro-Corbyn thread just now? Opposing a hard Right government is (or should be) the Left’s raison d’etre. It doesn’t appear that is what’s happening.

MaddieElla · 25/07/2019 12:41

BJ won't wipe the floor with anyone, only does well when he's unchallenged.

Seems to have done alright today, he was spot on about Corbyn in my opinion.

PrincessScarlett · 25/07/2019 12:44

It's frustrating as Labour have had years to get themselves together and provide a decent opposition. There are a number of labour MPs that would win a GE against Boris but not Corbyn. They need a 'things can only get better' moment like when Blair first came to power. As much as I couldn't stand Blair, he completely revolutionised the party.

I think the Lib Dems have got a fantastic opportunity here.

sionnachbeag · 25/07/2019 12:44

Except he talked utter bollocks and just threw ad homs at him, and only when he knew that Corbyn wouldn't get the right to reply afterward

colourlessgreenidea · 25/07/2019 12:45

Interesting that some on the thread think only a Tory could be disappointed in Corbyn.

Indeed, when what so many of us desperately want is a viable opposition party that we could actively support.

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 12:48

I'm not a Tory and I'm disappointed that the opposition is so weak. The new Lib Dem leader said the same.
If any of Johnson's speech were true some of his policies were not that bad. I just don't think they will deliver them or believe that they are that committed.

sionnachbeag · 25/07/2019 12:54

How will Johnson get his proposals through the commons?

colourlessgreenidea · 25/07/2019 13:00

How will Johnson get his proposals through the commons?

Not a clue.

That Johnson is useless is not the point of debate here. The disappointing inability of the opposition to oppose one of the most inept governments the country has ever seen is the cause for concern here.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/07/2019 13:06

He will likely be booted out soon

That's what the doorstep canvassers were saying round here before the last election - and he's still there

It comes to something when their best bet is trying to persuade you that the leader will be going, but there you go ...

Sandybval · 25/07/2019 13:10

What he should be doing is stepping down as Labour leader so that they walk the next general election with ease.

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 13:12

J C doesn't ever sound like a man who wants power. He isn't ' media trained' enough to appeal to the working class tories who will vote for Johnson.

Cinammoncake · 25/07/2019 13:13

What he should be doing is stepping down as Labour leader so that they walk the next general election with ease.

He really should. His insistence on putting himself first isn't going to win him any votes.

His USP used to be popularity with students and the young. I think those votes will go to LibDems under Jo Swinson and to the greens now.

OP posts:
sionnachbeag · 25/07/2019 13:17

Thats incorrect, the biggest group of voters for labour in the last election were thr 25 to 46 group, 46 is now the age at which people are starting to vote conservative (up from 42) , this age group was also the most likely to switch their vote to Labour.

Cinammoncake · 25/07/2019 13:18

I count those as young sionnachbeag Grin
I think more 25 to 46s will go to LibDems and Greens now.

Bromentum have trashed the Labour Party, they are unelectable. Their policies should scare the living shit out of us; just as much as austerity and trashing the NHS and our entire social infrastructure should have scared people out of voting Tory.

MyFokMarelize · 25/07/2019 13:23

I don't get how Corbyn and Labour can be so utterly crap in the face of what is happening? How is it even possible?!

This and WHY the PLP are not bloody doing something about it? Why aren't they? They could get a landslide in a GE if there was someone real in charge ffs. I do not get it.

sionnachbeag · 25/07/2019 13:25

Exactly which labour policies scare the shit out of you?

lyralalala · 25/07/2019 13:25

It's just so frustrating.

I disagree with many of the critisisms against him. The whole 'conversations with terrorists' for one - the government of the day were in secret talks with the IRA. The agreements and talks didn't just appear from nowhere, there is always underground talks because people in power won't be seen publicly as weak. Sitting around a table with groups and saying "Is there a way we can solve this that works for everyone?" isn't something somoene should be slated for.

However, the nature of politics is that if you "get caught" having those chats at the wrong time then it follows you and you are fucked. It's the nature of the beast.

However, he is either completely blinded by his position or utterly naive to think that any Labour leader would be polling what he is right now. He is unelectable to the general population. I don't know why, I don't think he's any worse than anyone else we've had, however, fact is that he is. And if he was a half decent person - rather than just a pure politician up for self gain - he'd do the right thing and go.

Christ, even the head of the PTA at my kids school realised she'd offended a lot of people and therefore for the sake of the kids left. And that's discos and summer fetes ffs, not the entire country.

It's especially poor of him to be hanging on for grim death at the moment. We are at a major crossroads as a country and we need all of our politicians to be working for the good of the country. There are far too many of them too busy feathering their own nest.

I firmly believe that the fact Labour are unelectable is at least partly to blame for the rise in popularity of the likes of Farage and Yaxley-Lennon. People are looking for a political home and many don't have one so they end up trying to find one that might fit some bits. When times are tough then extreme sides pick up popularity. The fact there is essentially no labour to get behind is enhancing that.

sionnachbeag · 25/07/2019 13:32

Unelectable?

Thats what they said the last time, they won the larger share of the vote Labour had got since 2005 (and they won that won)

CapybarasLoveCake · 25/07/2019 13:33

So disappointing and frustrating. Worst opposition in recent times. I just hope he stands down, they elect a new leader and come out firmly for remain. Think they’d storm an GE.

Cinammoncake · 25/07/2019 13:36

Oh come on. Look what's happened since then. He can't keep relying on that old argument.

He doesn't seem like someone who can run the country. I wouldn't even want him running the school fair. He's shambolic and has been utterly useless and ineffectual in opposition.

I think if they don't do it soon or imminently, people won't forgive them for a long time.

Even a day or two ago JC was trying to backtrack on the peoples vote/remain topic.
