It's just so frustrating.
I disagree with many of the critisisms against him. The whole 'conversations with terrorists' for one - the government of the day were in secret talks with the IRA. The agreements and talks didn't just appear from nowhere, there is always underground talks because people in power won't be seen publicly as weak. Sitting around a table with groups and saying "Is there a way we can solve this that works for everyone?" isn't something somoene should be slated for.
However, the nature of politics is that if you "get caught" having those chats at the wrong time then it follows you and you are fucked. It's the nature of the beast.
However, he is either completely blinded by his position or utterly naive to think that any Labour leader would be polling what he is right now. He is unelectable to the general population. I don't know why, I don't think he's any worse than anyone else we've had, however, fact is that he is. And if he was a half decent person - rather than just a pure politician up for self gain - he'd do the right thing and go.
Christ, even the head of the PTA at my kids school realised she'd offended a lot of people and therefore for the sake of the kids left. And that's discos and summer fetes ffs, not the entire country.
It's especially poor of him to be hanging on for grim death at the moment. We are at a major crossroads as a country and we need all of our politicians to be working for the good of the country. There are far too many of them too busy feathering their own nest.
I firmly believe that the fact Labour are unelectable is at least partly to blame for the rise in popularity of the likes of Farage and Yaxley-Lennon. People are looking for a political home and many don't have one so they end up trying to find one that might fit some bits. When times are tough then extreme sides pick up popularity. The fact there is essentially no labour to get behind is enhancing that.
