What are your ideas to cool the room down to get some sleep? We have pedestal fans they are not helping much.

It’s soo fcuking hot!!

Hate it. Even with all these suggestions I can't sleep and feel incredibly uncomfortable. Roll on Autumn

Time40 · 23/07/2019 20:59

I'll probably sleep naked with only part of me under a 4.5 tog duvet

W-h-a-t??? A duvet? Are you serious? You can't possibly get under a duvet tonight - you'll probably spontaneously combust under there.

fraxion · 23/07/2019 21:00

It's annoying because it's too hot for covers but without covers you are vulnerable to monsters.

Yes, the second you put the lights out and the room is pitch black they start lurking waiting for a leg to escape the covers.

It has been warm in the far NE Scotland but nowhere near the temps some of you are getting.

managedmis · 23/07/2019 21:01

We live abroad, it was 32 degrees and the AC decided to break.

To cope, we:

Moaned
Groaned
Kept windows and blinds closed during the day
Opened the windows as soon as the cooler air hit
Bbq-ued instead of oven
Cold shower before bed
Lots of fluids

1moreRep · 23/07/2019 21:01

where is everyone based? it's lovely (not too hot) here (cheshire) and due to rain on thursday!

Lulu1919 · 23/07/2019 21:01

Oyster...that’s my issue !!!!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 23/07/2019 21:02

Fill a hot water bottle with cold water, amazing how much cooler you feel if your feet are

WonderTweek · 23/07/2019 21:02

I'm working for the next three days and I have to wear black tights and long sleeves AND walk around a lot and commute on a scooter. Hmm It will be difficult to convince my colleagues that I'm not hot in my stupid cardigans. (New job, very formal, tattoos. Envy)

I do have three boxes of magnums though.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 23/07/2019 21:02

I'm working, travelling into Central London on the Tube and walking as well.

Fuck.

PeoniesarePink · 23/07/2019 21:03

Luckily I've had the curtains and blinds down all day so house isn't too unbearable tonight downstairs, seriously thinking of sleeping in the living room tbh.

1frenchfoodie · 23/07/2019 21:03

Wet socks. Water spray pn body and stand in front of fan to cool down before bed. Windows, shutters and curtains closed from early morning. Due to be 42 here (Paris) on thur though so doubt any of these will cut it.

elQuintoConyo · 23/07/2019 21:04

The solution for you Oysterbabe

Cold water on chest, neck, tops of arms. Go to bed when really tired.

Supposed to be 36 in London on Thursday

mindproject · 23/07/2019 21:06

All the windows are open, so there's a nice breeze, drinking iced coffee and enjoying not being cold. I've got some days off work, so I might put the pool out and buy some ice lollies.

BuildBuildings · 23/07/2019 21:06

Fan on
Sleep naked (as always, how do people sleep in clothes?)
Ice pops
Air con in the car
Keep the curtains closed

Paramicha · 23/07/2019 21:07

we are lucky that our house doesn't get too hot, we don't need fans or air con. We just leave doors and windows open and close curtains at the back where the sun is mostly.
No smugness though as it costs a fortune to heat in winter, when we freeze.

EggysMom · 23/07/2019 21:07

It's probably the first year that I've closed windows during the day instead of (instinctively) flinging them open ... but it's working. Windows are now wide open, with doors open between rooms to help circulate the air. It might just be bearable tonight where, in previous years (before following advice) it's been stifling.

ChocoholicsAsylum · 23/07/2019 21:08

Enjoying it because we dont get alot of it here in Scotland... soon enough it will sadly be over again.

ChocoholicsAsylum · 23/07/2019 21:09

Could honestly live in this weather for good

SinglePringle · 23/07/2019 21:10

Embrace it.
Go to the gym in just shorts and a vest.
Drink loads of water
Use the pool at my gym
Keep the curtains closed in the bedroom
Keep my hair up at all times
Embrace it again - it’s not the norm and I adore this heat.
Eat salad and fruit
Sleep naked under a sheet
Don’t stress about being hot - everyone is and it’s unlikely to do you any long term damage
Hope it continues as long as possible.

dementedma · 23/07/2019 21:11

I’m with you chocoholics. Loving it

Lucked · 23/07/2019 21:12

My house is never hot. I am currently on my sofa with a blanket over my lap, more out of habit than need but I am a comfortable temperature.

I have a day off tomorrow so going to sit and eat out as much as possible and enjoy it.

Tashalburrows · 23/07/2019 21:13

Pillowcases in the freezer for an hour before bed. Makes a massive difference x

YesQueen · 23/07/2019 21:19

I'm still wearing thermal socks GrinBlush the rest of me is melting

ForalltheSaints · 23/07/2019 21:20

Plenty of water during the day.
Try to spend part of the day in an air conditioned or cooler building (supermarket, or older church).
