What Should Be My 2000th Film?

BadgerBrush · 23/07/2019 15:48

So, I'm a big film fan, and I'm coming up to watching my 2000th film (don't ask how I know, I'm sad enough to have kept track).

I'm having some friends over to turn my 2000th film into a bit of an event - we'll watch it on a big projector, eat popcorn and pizza etc. etc, which will be really fun.

The problem is, I don't know what film it should be! It's difficult, because I want it to be a really good film, but how would I know if I haven't seen it yet? I was thinking something epic, like Lawrence of Arabia, but think it'll just bore my friends, so naive something light and entertaining would be better? But it's also got to be worthy if "film 2000" status!

AIBU to ask you all for some recommendations? To give an indication of what I've already watched - I've seen the majority of the IMDb top 250 films (plus 1750 others...)

I thought of more:

Leon
Lion
Marley and Me
How to lose a guy in 10 days

If in doubt, anything with Denzel Washington in it is bound to be good.

HappyNOTdriving · 23/07/2019 16:49

More!

The Princess bride
Pans labyrinth
The shape of water
Willow
Dark crystal
All of the terminator films but I like 2 the best.
Rambo films
Police academy films

Session 9
District 9
Chappy
Elysium

I'm just ignoring the light and breezy and am listing all that come to mind that Iv enjoyed of course you can ignore my suggestions.

I might come back with more if I can be arsed!

I don't know if you'd consider a foreign film, but I love 'Ne Le Dis à Personne' (Tell No One) - great French thriller. 'The Secret in Their Eyes' is an excellent Argentinian/ Spanish film - the Hollywood remake was awful though. Irish films may also be a way to go, if you prefer something in English! Michael Collins, The Van, The Snapper, Into the West (my favourite). I'd assume you've seen The Commitments!

I love the Notebook Blush

HappyNOTdriving · 23/07/2019 16:51

Rec. Spanish film

If you want something really different but enjoyable, then I LOVED Isle of Dogs by Wes Anderson.

MoistOwlette · 23/07/2019 16:58

Battle Royale
Sleuth
Red Eye
Westward the Women
In A League of Their Own (probably the one you're most likely to have seen, though!)

ALittleBitAlexis · 23/07/2019 16:59

If you haven't seen them:

Jules & Jim is a proper classic French film and is wonderful, if your friends don't mind subtitles.

If you all like Australian humour, you can't beat The Castle.

Delicatessen is my favourite film but you may well have seen it, and I wouldn't describe it as 'breezy' (it's a surreal comedy about cannibalism).

What We Do in the Shadows is joint favourite and I don't see how anyone could not love it.

Have you seen Black Cat White Cat?

Its brilliant (8.1 on IMDB) and would absolutely fit the bill for a feel good, quirky & ridiculous movie for a group of friends.

JorahsMistress · 23/07/2019 17:41

How soon does this event have to be? If you don't mind waiting a few months till its out on dvd (hopefully before xmas) the Downton Abbey movie is out in September 😁

jiskoot · 23/07/2019 17:44

Maybe you should watch one made in the year 2000...just to narrow down your choices, if you can find one you haven't watched!
