Pink highlights and husband is mad

Hi - I went to hairdressers for cut and blow dry - my hairdresser had a cancelled appointment so I got my hair highlighted with pink and blonde. (It's more pinky than blonde). I'm 54, yes I guess I'm getting older, but I DO like it. So my OH has just come in and he's going mad saying 'how old do you think you are?' etc etc. I'm really kinda hurt but also angry and I guess I should have said I was gonna do a 'radical change' (it is for me I'm soooo boring) but how could I - I didn't know hairdresser was gonna be free and I did it on the spur of the moment. Now I'm feeling like crap boo hoooooooo

I'm 50, and when I was a teen I went through so many colours. I now have white blonde hair, and sometimes use temporary colours as an under layer. I give no fucks for anyone else's opinion, even my work place dont care.

MotherOfSoupDragons · 20/07/2019 18:30

My husband said he didn't want me to let my hair go grey. I said I didn't want him to go bald, but we don't always get what we want.

StCharlotte · 20/07/2019 18:30

If it was good enough for Princess Anne...

(annoyingly can't find a picture)

cabingirl · 20/07/2019 18:31

I think it's glorious when women of whatever age do what makes them happy with their own body.

A big FU to anyone - women or men trying to shame them into bland compliance and ordinariness - based on outdated social norms designed to keep things 'nice and quiet'.

I bet you look fantastic.

Funghi · 20/07/2019 18:32

Did you not need a patch test?

He’s being awful and now you’re going to think twice before doing anything nice for yourself and consider getting his permission. That’s no way to live.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 20/07/2019 18:32

I love different colours and often change mine. That said I find it strange how lots of people are quick to say disparaging things about the DH in this case but if a man suddenly grows facial hair then an acceptable response is tell him no more sex till its gone.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 20/07/2019 18:33

Here's mine (again).

I'm 52. And a chartered accountant. My colleagues in the office along the corridor hate it. Come to think of it, a lot of people hate it. But it does make strangers smile Smile

I dyed my hair bright red. My husband wasn't all that keen but meh. It looks nice.

bakedbeanzontoast · 20/07/2019 18:34

@NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace that is so cool 😍!

Peanutbuttericecream · 20/07/2019 18:38

How bloody dare he? It's your hair, tell him to do one.

Just this week, I saw a lady in the supermarket with bright purple hair, she must have been 70 and her hair looked stunning. I paid her a compliment and she looked really pleased.

littlepaddypaws · 20/07/2019 18:40

i intend on continuing to rock funky hair colours when i'm 90, pick the bones outta that those mners with the judgy knickers Grin

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 20/07/2019 18:42

I plan to age disgracefully

Please do; it's serving me well thus far Grin

mathanxiety · 20/07/2019 18:49

Tell him you're sorry he feels that way, and even sorrier that he felt he could just blurt out something so rude and hurtful.

Hair colour can be changed, hairstyles can grow out, but an entitled attitude is harder to dislodge, and the hurt caused by inconsiderate comments can take a while to heal.

Submariner · 20/07/2019 18:49

Ah fuck him the old fart. I'm sure you look fab.

IsobelRae23 · 20/07/2019 18:58

I’m bright red- 38. I’m waiting to grow it a bit and then I’m looking to go something like this

I'm in my 60s with natural white hair which I keep very short. I've had pink, lavender and steel grey colours in it. Not all at once though, loved my lavender hair the best, thinking of doing a Megan Rapinoe when I'm at the hairdressers next week.

Like a previous poster said, I give no fucks about other peoples opinions.

TDMN · 20/07/2019 19:04

LOVE LOVE LOVE a bit of pink hair, I think it looks fab on any age, theres a woman who lives in our area whose in her 50s and has a little buzzcut/undercut on one side and its proper hot pink - looks great. Show us a pic OP, i bet it looks great.

Sagradafamiliar · 20/07/2019 19:05

I'd have have said to him 'I'm the same age I was this morning you daft twat' when he asked how old you think you are.
What does age have to do with the price of bacon?! Any time a woman changes something or gets something done, she is accused of trying to look younger. I don't get it. You're not trying to look younger, you're trying to look like bits of your hair is pink and so what? Good for you. I hope you love it.

Shplot · 20/07/2019 19:07

Ooh let’s see I bet it’s lovely!

Skyejuly · 20/07/2019 19:08

I can not stand people judging how others look. Must have a sheltered life to judge a hair colour.

Aprillygirl · 20/07/2019 19:14

Your husband sounds like a right nasty pig OP. He is probably feeling threatened now you have a new look that I bet looks amazing on you. Tell him that all that matters is that you like your hair and if he really dislikes it that much well he knows where the door is doesn't he.

Al2O3 · 20/07/2019 19:15

Die your lady garden green and tell him you will change your pink highlights only when he’s eaten like a hungry horse.

leiderhosen · 20/07/2019 19:15

Blimey, it's not the same as showing off your bum, is it. There's a lot of judgement about older people and how they should look, dress, behave. Sod that. I've got a friend in her sixties with naturally platinum hair. She'd look fantastic with pink streaks. I'm sure yours looks brilliant OP.

SignOnTheWindow · 20/07/2019 19:18

@BBCONEANDTWO put that phrase 'mutton dressed as lamb' out of your mind. When I was still a young un in my teens and twenties, I'd look at older women with multi-coloured hair or trendy clothes and think, "That's what I want to look like." Own your pink hair - I bet you look great!

@NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace your hair is flipping AWESOME!
