Pink highlights and husband is mad

Hi - I went to hairdressers for cut and blow dry - my hairdresser had a cancelled appointment so I got my hair highlighted with pink and blonde. (It's more pinky than blonde). I'm 54, yes I guess I'm getting older, but I DO like it. So my OH has just come in and he's going mad saying 'how old do you think you are?' etc etc. I'm really kinda hurt but also angry and I guess I should have said I was gonna do a 'radical change' (it is for me I'm soooo boring) but how could I - I didn't know hairdresser was gonna be free and I did it on the spur of the moment. Now I'm feeling like crap boo hoooooooo

You go OP!! Life is too bloody short to have boring hair, you only live once and I imagine it looks fantastic!

In 46 and have a 'blue rinse' (not the old lady type) and I've had 2 people ask me where I had it done and complimented me on it today. Tell you husband to get a grip and stop being an old fuddy duddy

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 20/07/2019 17:54

He's being spiteful and belittling you. Why do you suppose that is?

mrsmuddlepies · 20/07/2019 17:55

In the 70s most older women had pink, purple or blue hair. Nobody young wanted a colour perceived to be 'old' ladyish.
When young women chose to go pink , there were lots of comments about them channeling Barbara Cartland.
It is fine for the older generation of women to reclaim it.
The blue rinse set used to refer to female Tories of a certain age.

Hazardtired · 20/07/2019 17:56

I'm sure you look beautiful OP.

I hope this is a one off mouthing off from him and not his usual. You really deserve someone kind.

Flooopers · 20/07/2019 17:57

@DC3dilemma, that's so sad about your mum. 50 years of living with someone who crushes every ounce of joy out of life Sad

OP, your husband is entitled to dislike your new hair but that's all he has the right to. Spouse comes home with surprise face tattoo, that's one thing. Spouse comes home with different coloured hair, unclench your sphincter and shut up.

Whosorrynow · 20/07/2019 17:58

ooh smell those sour grapes
he doesnt like it because you are now waaaaay cooler than him:o
hahaha suck it up old man :o

diddl · 20/07/2019 17:58

It's fine to not like/be shocked but to be nasty & sneery is completely unnecessary, isn't it?

Whosorrynow · 20/07/2019 18:01

you are happy and feel good about yourself because you have a great new look...and that makes him angry?
wtf!?
he's not in your corner is he!

diddl · 20/07/2019 18:01

"It is fine for the older generation of women to reclaim it."

Op's hardly old generation, is she?

mycatisblack · 20/07/2019 18:02

Yes, I had a blue and green Mohican in the late 70's. My dad wasn't impressed but that made it even more desirable. Grin
I've not got tatts or lots of piercings simply because I'm not fond of needles. But if that's your thing, go for it.

I think it's hilarious that some people are so dreadfully conservative about what others should/shouldn't do, that they genuinely think anyone cares about their opinion. Ha ha ha.

spacewitch99 · 20/07/2019 18:03

I was mulling over getting another tattoo and my DP told me I was too old to be thinking about another tattoo..(44 at the time)
So, I booked myself in to a tattoo parlour the next day and got one done...
He just rolled his eyes when I showed him.

Lovemusic33 · 20/07/2019 18:05

I bet it looks great. Please post a photo.

I know someone who is 70 this year and has blue and pink hear, she looks great and it makes her happy.

I have just bought some purple to go in my hair.

Awaywiththefairies27 · 20/07/2019 18:07

Assuming he has hair, I'd be very tempted to treat him to some lovely expensive leave-in conditioner that accidently gives him a blue rinse. Grin

You do you. Little treats like this help break up the monotony of life.

aliensprig · 20/07/2019 18:11

Who cares what he thinks, you can do whatever the f you like with your hair! Wish I had the guts to dye mine pink! Pleeeease upload a pic :)

FarewelltotheFairground · 20/07/2019 18:12

@Teacakeandalatte 😂

Teddybear45 · 20/07/2019 18:14

He has the right to be angry about it, as you would too if he shaved his head or eyebrows without consulting you, but ultimately it’s your decision. Am sure he’ll get used to it eventually.

CanYouHelpFindThis · 20/07/2019 18:15

Tell him the hairdresser has an appointment available for tomorrow and you have told you that he wants to do his blue 😂

He needs to get a grip

Flooopers · 20/07/2019 18:16

He has the right to dislike it, he doesn't have the right to be angry.

StrangeLookingParasite · 20/07/2019 18:18

Most people won't say anything to your face, but I can guarantee people are judging you for having pink hair; especially at 54!

Ah yes, but then we consider the source....

oakthorn · 20/07/2019 18:19

Oh bugger I am 53 and my hair is fire engine red with thick black streaks 🤣🤣🤣🤣 do you know I don't care what anyone thinks . I love it

StrangeLookingParasite · 20/07/2019 18:21

If I was more patient and had loads of cash (and didn't know it would only last about a week), I'd do this with my hair.

Pink highlights and husband is mad
31RueCambon · 20/07/2019 18:27

I bet it looks good. I saw a woman, older than you, well in her 60s I'd say and very well-groomed with lilac hair the other day. She had olive skin and blue eyes and it looked amazing.

madcatladyforever · 20/07/2019 18:28

Good grief, its not as if you've gone out and got a mohawk and some tattoos, it's just hair.

HistoryTide2 · 20/07/2019 18:28

sometimes a bit of pink hair is nice on an older face, its quite a soft colour as well. its just whether it suits you and your style really. i wouldn't say its all that "out there" tbh.
