To ask what a classy tattoo is?

Ok, please don’t shoot me down this is an honest question from an obviously out of touch person. ( name changed obviously)
But what the hell do people mean when they say that a tattoo is classy or amazing art work??
I see them everywhere but have never seen anything that I would say was attaractive on flesh.
They are various degrees of quality of art work yes but classy nope.
On another thread people were saying they had high quality tattoos but what does that even look like? Surely to anyone judging a tattoo is a tattoo I e a permanent mark on your body?
I would assume people like David beckham and Robbie Williams must have the higher quality tattoos? Basic As they have the money ? But to many people they would be judged poorly in a few real life settings. I would not personally say I like the look.
Sorry but pondering the consequences of not being aware of a difference and wondering if judgments are being made on artwork quality Within the tattooed population and the non tattooed are just judging any tattoo?
Explane probably photos required here.
Sorry about typos struggling with iPad tonight

Probably new due to the redness, but lovely work

To ask what a classy tattoo is?
SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 13/07/2019 23:50

No tattoo.

CreekyBeaky · 13/07/2019 23:51

Tattoos are not classy because being classy isn’t about tattoos, hair, make up, clothes, shoes or anything as vapid as all that. Being classy is about who you are as a person.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 13/07/2019 23:56

Here you go xx

Breathlessness · 14/07/2019 01:18

Puppies!!!

Would it be wrong to force family members to get puppies tattooed onto themselves so I have constant access to cute animal pictures even when I can’t get internet access?

VampirateQueen · 14/07/2019 14:07

I have learned something about myself today. I am a working class, rebellious, sheep with either a personality disorder or I'm a psychopath Wink so is my DH apparently.

BoronationStreet · 14/07/2019 23:28

What a shit thread. Confused

VikingVolva · 15/07/2019 08:42

"WGAF about ‘class?’"

Only those who are rich/privileged can afford to ignore it, as they are the only ones who are not much affected by it.

It's not just Britain btw. But foreigners tend not to see the nuances so readily, if at all.

IrisAtwood · 15/07/2019 08:44

A classy tattoo is no tattoo.

Divebar · 15/07/2019 08:52

What’s the point of posting a load of images of bad tattoos? You get great, shit and indifferent artists and tattoos everywhere... this is not news. It’s just like haircuts. The point surely is that people are not necessarily striving to be “ classy “..... do you seriously think that’s what it’s about? In the main I would say its a culture has no intention of being classy and doesn’t give two shits what other non tattooed people think of it. I don’t have a single one but think there are so amazing tattoo artists working. ( and I’d rather have a drink with them than some of the apparently classier people on this thread)

soapona · 15/07/2019 10:03

There is no point in this argument about really. People who get tattoos don't see what people who consciously refrain from them do. Members of their family and their peers will have them too. No one in my family including cousins from both sides have them, they would be horrified at the thought. It's who you mix with.

propolythenecarpets · 15/07/2019 10:32

No I don't agree. No one in my family nor my friends have any and I still manage not to judge people who do.

I couldn't give a single solitary fuck, it's such a weird thing to have an opinion on.

soapona · 15/07/2019 11:40

@propolythenecarpets You are judging though because you are choosing not to get one. Ive just remembered of my old school friend has one. I don't judge but if she is on Facebook asking how to cover up a tattoo I have given her the name of a reputable laser clinic as an option. She decided to increase it size in a cover up project. Probably as a FU to for my advice. She never got a customer service job as a results of her tattoos. This person has mental health problems and incredibly impulsive.

SlightlyPsychotic · 15/07/2019 12:49

Not everyone who gets a tattoo done are impulsive.
Not everyone who gets a tattoo done are working through emotional issues.
Not everyone who gets a tattoo has mental health issues.
Some people just like them okay? you don't hear us with tattoos walking round looking at those without saying "oh look at that horrible bare skin. Wow look what they're doing to themselves by not having such beautiful art on their body... they're so boring and normal and have nothing unique about them" are we?? no. We just like going and getting inked and I don't know why so many of you are offended by it.

Our bodies, our choice.

At the end of the day, It's not hurting you, so leave it out.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 15/07/2019 13:02

@soapona Asking for advice on how to cover up a tattoo is not asking for advice on having a tattoo removed, which is probably why she did not follow your advice. Don't flatter yourself by thinking your opinion is that important.

propolythenecarpets · 15/07/2019 13:23

You are judging though because you are choosing not to get one

Nope, I'd absolutely love a tattoo. I haven't had one for the same reason I haven't had a second baby - I'm shit scared of how much it will hurt!

soapona · 15/07/2019 13:43

@SlightlyPsychotic Virgin skin is not normal though more than 50% of under 40 have chosen to be "unique" and get one!

SlightlyPsychotic · 15/07/2019 14:29

@soapona

But by unique i mean people having different tattoos, on different parts of their body, in different styles, colours, patterns, by different tattooists. That is unique. Just because you choose to judge, or 'have an opinion' on people with tattoos doesn't make you any better than anyone else. And if more than 50% of under 40's have gotten one then how bad can it be?

Is it hurting you? no. Is it causing a detrimental effect to you or your life? no. Is it causing you any pain? discomfort? no. Costing you any money? no.

There's a difference in having an opinion and straight up judging people and I would much rather hang around those covered head to toe with tattoos than sit and slag them off.

soapona · 15/07/2019 14:46

@SlightlyPsychotic I appreciate what you are saying but to me it is branding yourself. It's an undertaking that shouldn't be done likely and can be a health risk. You can't give blood for a while either so it's left to us non tattooed people with low risk taking behaviour in regards to exotic holidays, sexual activity and tattoos to donate blood!

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 15/07/2019 14:50

" it's left to us non tattooed people with low risk taking behaviour in regards to exotic holidays, sexual activity and tattoos to donate blood!"

😂😂😂

BlackCatSleeping · 15/07/2019 14:53

A friend of mine was working in Japan and he got a sleeve done by a tattoo artist who did yakuza tattoos.

It was an amazing piece of art, all cherry blossoms and koi carp.

I don’t know if it was classy or not, but it was beautiful and it took him months to get it done but by bit. The tattoo artist was obviously very good at what he did.

I’ve seen some terrible tattoos though. Badly drawn and poorly thought out.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/07/2019 15:00

You are judging though because you are choosing not to get one

Seriously?

That’s ridiculous

I dont have a tattoo therefore i judge dh for having a few

I dont want to wear my hair long, it does not mean i judge dd for having long hair

Unless ive completely misunderstood (which happens)

TinyMystery · 15/07/2019 15:06

From the first page, this:
*
Body art that is stylistically planned and executed well by someone with an understanding of the art and how it relates to the anatomy of the wearer.

Beckham and Williams look like toilet stall graffiti by comparison -- jumbled styles, all clearly not planned out with a goal in mind.*

‘Classy’ tattoos are well planned, compliment the physique of the owner, have crisp lines and we’ll maintained colour, and definitely don’t mismatch styles.

DH has a single, black and white forearm tattoo that looks ‘classy’ IMO.

malificent7 · 15/07/2019 15:07

I work in a hospital...lots of us have visible tattoos from doctors to porters. No big deal as many patients have them too. Some are classy, some not. A bit like clothes.

SlightlyPsychotic · 15/07/2019 15:09

@soapona what has exotic holidays and sexual activity got anything to do with tattoos? this is literally going nowhere now.

At the end of the day people do take a lot of precautions and time thinking when they consider getting a tattoo (most people of course not all) but then we can still give blood eventually. Not everyone who doesn't have a tattoo gives blood so it's an invalid argument haha.

Some people like tattoos, others don't. However i don't hear anyone with tattoos slagging off those without, it's usually the other way around. Smile
