To ask what a classy tattoo is?

Ok, please don’t shoot me down this is an honest question from an obviously out of touch person. ( name changed obviously)
But what the hell do people mean when they say that a tattoo is classy or amazing art work??
I see them everywhere but have never seen anything that I would say was attaractive on flesh.
They are various degrees of quality of art work yes but classy nope.
On another thread people were saying they had high quality tattoos but what does that even look like? Surely to anyone judging a tattoo is a tattoo I e a permanent mark on your body?
I would assume people like David beckham and Robbie Williams must have the higher quality tattoos? Basic As they have the money ? But to many people they would be judged poorly in a few real life settings. I would not personally say I like the look.
Sorry but pondering the consequences of not being aware of a difference and wondering if judgments are being made on artwork quality Within the tattooed population and the non tattooed are just judging any tattoo?
Explane probably photos required here.
Sorry about typos struggling with iPad tonight

Most tattoos are classy. The only time I've seen questionable ones is when I actively go looking for bad art.

So many snobs on here, eh? Is there a reason you're all so preoccupied with "lovely" clear skin? When your skin is actively attacking itself and you feel like shit about it, sometimes it's much nicer to get something that makes you feel good about the largest organ on your body. People with psoriasis or other skin issues don't have 'lovely' clear skin, but I guess they don't matter when you're sticking your noses up at people who choose to turn themselves into pieces of art.

Breathlessness · 13/07/2019 15:38

Unless they are on the neck or hand, most tattoos would be easily covered by standard office wear. So how do you know who has them? Do you strip search your solicitor? Disrobe your doctor? Undress your underwriter?

BitchQueen90 · 13/07/2019 15:45

I love my tattoos. Don't care if they're classy or not. And I'm working class and bloody proud of it. Rather be working class than snobby and pretentious.

Sunshine196 · 13/07/2019 16:00

@MindyStClair I’ve just looked at Rebecca Vincent and she’s got a very similar style to the person doing my next tattoo. Check out catsinbrogues on Instagram. Beautiful work imo.

Ohbehave1 · 13/07/2019 16:03

@Breathlessness exactly. Those that complain about people with Tatts should be made to refuse treatment by Doctors that have them as they are obviously not good enough.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 13/07/2019 16:17

"If you google psychiatrist care tattoos in women it will come up personality disorders, psychopathy or victim of child sexual abuse. Obviously I appreciate that many people with tattoos do not have these issue. There seems little doubt though psychiatrists make judgements and tattoos are a factor"

Soapona I'm weighing up ignoring you as I think you're either a goady troll, taking the piss in a ill judged attempt at being funny, or genuinely as stupid as your posts make you sound.

Against my better judgement though, I really want to ask you to elaborate here. Are you seriously saying psychiatrists believe that people with tattoos have tattoos because they are either sexually abused, a psychopath or have personality disorders?

Every single one of my 30+ tattoos has a special meaning to me. They represent my lost parents, lost babies, happy memories, reminders that keep me alive. Keep me strong. We take photos. We take digital images in whichever format. Photos degrade, computers get replaced. I'm a walking and talking, daily reminder of the life I've lived and the journey. As long as the person wearing the tattoo loves it, it's classy x

NetMumz · 13/07/2019 16:34

Well, I think everyones definition is different but something that is subtle, attractive (flowers, or decorative henna type designs) and not too overpowering.

oabiti · 13/07/2019 16:42

I have one of an African proverb on the inside of my wrist. I'm dark skinned, so it's barely visible; much to my dismay! It serves me well to remember it...especially when dealing with judgemental nitwits.

MrsBobDylan · 13/07/2019 17:10

Very, very few people are classy, with or without a tattoo. I think we place too much importance on our physicality. One day, my body with go to dust and what I clothed it in or tattoo'd on it will be dust too.

I am getting my first tattoo next week. Part of my motivation is my Mother's control of me that prevented me living the life I wanted to live for too many years. The tattoo is symbolic of making my own decisions and of not placing too much importance on the aesthetics of my body. However, it will be tiny because I am quite a wimp!!

Pharlapwasthebest · 13/07/2019 17:14

Omg. Who bloody cares if people have a tattoo or not, it means nothing. Take them for what they are, not what they look like.
I’ve got 2, couldn’t care less if people think I’m common, chavvy, whatever, it’s my skin, and I had something tattooed that is important to me.

soapona · 13/07/2019 17:17

@MrsBobDylan The is a reason not to! It's like "rebellious Amy" in the thread lower down working through her adolescence!.

Iggi999 · 13/07/2019 17:21

I find it hard to commit to a piece of wall art, I know I would change my mind about any tattoo.

Bedsidedrawer · 13/07/2019 19:50

Only people concerned with classy are the middle class anyway.
The most snobby, fearful class of all.

Asdf12345 · 13/07/2019 19:57

I would say a classy tattoo is an oxymoron. That isn’t to say I’ve not seen very very pretty ones, but their presence always cheapens the individual to my mind.

PeggySuehadababy · 13/07/2019 20:38

A classy tattoo has good colours, resists to time, is clear what it is and has a meaning to the person who wears it.

Quite a few royals have them, but mind you they might be holidaying in Benidorm, the chavs.

MrsExpo · 13/07/2019 20:57

Tattoos are not classy. I’ve never never seen on anyone that didn’t make me cringe. Yes, your body, your choice, but some of them are just gross, ill advised or just plain ugly.

InsertFunnyUsername · 13/07/2019 21:26

I don't think tattoos can be described as classy tbh.

But, i got several tattoos because i like them and some were on impulse but i still look at them with a smile.

The opinions of a mardy arse on a sun lounger don't concern most people.

PavlovaFaith · 13/07/2019 21:31

They are beautiful, intricate, artistic at times... but until I see QEII with love/hate on her knuckles and golden grills, not classy Grin

MrsBobDylan · 13/07/2019 21:38

@soapona I always wanted a tattoo but didn't get one to please my Mother. I am not 'rebelling' by getting one now, I am simply doing something I have always wanted to do.

At the age of 45 I'm not sure I am young enough to actually rebel? Surely there's an age where you can please yourself without it being viewed as teenage excess?

Rachelover40 · 13/07/2019 22:47

Doesn't 'classy' mean 'classic', ie 'first class'? That's how I interpret the word. I suppose someone could have a first class tattoo, one that is beautifully designed and doesn't fade.

I still don't like them though, don't see the point.

soapona · 13/07/2019 22:51

@MrsBobDylan I appreciate what you're saying but you are working through issues. For example sometimes very overweight people have been sexually abused it like saying my body and making a physical distance from people. You're scarring yourself to assert yourself it's unnecessary. No one is asking you to people please perhaps you could spend the money on something else. You're working through issues about people pleasing, give it time and try another tactic first. I'm not sure tattoos help people emotionally.

Zerrin13 · 13/07/2019 23:00

I've never seen a tattoo that I thought was classy. I associate them with serviceman and convicts.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 13/07/2019 23:02

Perhaps this should be phrased another way. WGAF about ‘class?’ Even thought this is Britain and all.

I loathe the word ‘class’ almost as much as I do the word ‘chav’. Odd,y enough, both are equally meaningless, but both carry extremely pejorative connotations.

Tattoos are fine. I only have one small one; on the right-hand side of my tummy. But oddly enough, I find the more extensive ones - particularly on the torso and upper leg - look better than a smaller one-off.

k1233 · 13/07/2019 23:35

You can tell the difference between a good quality tattoo and a cheap and nasty one. Good quality tattoos have crisp lines and good artwork. Cheap and nasty are thick green black lines that are blurred / smudgy. These are lovely examples of fine line work, which is very hard to do well.

To ask what a classy tattoo is?
