To ask what a classy tattoo is?

Ok, please don’t shoot me down this is an honest question from an obviously out of touch person. ( name changed obviously)
But what the hell do people mean when they say that a tattoo is classy or amazing art work??
I see them everywhere but have never seen anything that I would say was attaractive on flesh.
They are various degrees of quality of art work yes but classy nope.
On another thread people were saying they had high quality tattoos but what does that even look like? Surely to anyone judging a tattoo is a tattoo I e a permanent mark on your body?
I would assume people like David beckham and Robbie Williams must have the higher quality tattoos? Basic As they have the money ? But to many people they would be judged poorly in a few real life settings. I would not personally say I like the look.
Sorry but pondering the consequences of not being aware of a difference and wondering if judgments are being made on artwork quality Within the tattooed population and the non tattooed are just judging any tattoo?
Explane probably photos required here.
Sorry about typos struggling with iPad tonight

lsn't the point that it's an individual choice? lf someone chooses to have a tattoo, surely that's their business?
Personally, l don't like my hair to look like it's dyed. So l don't dye it.
lf you don't like them, don't have one. Simple. Each to their own.

katseyes7 · 16/07/2019 17:10

SlightlyPsychotic You're right. l've had tattoos for years. But l can't donate blood because l needed a transfusion three years ago after major surgery.

Ginnymweasley · 16/07/2019 17:10

I've never understood the hatred some people seem to have for tattoos. I have 4. If you saw me most days you wouldn't know. In summer you see them more obv. I am not a risk taker or in any way impulsive. My dh says I'm a planner and he is right. I have planned all my tattoos out for months.
Why do some people care so much what others do with their bodies?

Ginnymweasley · 16/07/2019 17:13

Oh and no one else in my family has tattoos... thankfully none of them judge me on mine.

katseyes7 · 16/07/2019 17:19

l'd better not mention David Dimbleby's tattoo, then..... Wink

upanddownandupanddown · 16/07/2019 18:19

I have a tattoo, very visible above my ankle, around 12cm by 6cm.

Had it done age 34. And I’m a mother, and a GP.

And I really don’t care what you think; I love it because of what it means to me.

katseyes7 · 16/07/2019 19:08

Talking of tattoos.....
l've just watched an episode of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. One of the women said "back in the day, only Hell's Angels had tattoos."
Lisa Vanderpump replied "l have one. Do l look like a Hell's Angel?"

soapona · 16/07/2019 19:57

Aha lots of posts defending their choice to get a tattoo. I agree your choice but don't take offence if someone doesn't want to employ or date you. Or neighbours secretly think you lower the tone. Just as your image conscious so are us non tattooed people when we stroll past you our the way to being altruistic and giving blood while you naval gaze about your special tattoos and their meaning. Your choice our choice, don't complain about judgement, it's a choice not a disability!

soapona · 16/07/2019 20:00

If I think someone has done something completely naff and tacky to their house in my street all I can do is think "yikes what were they thinking?". There is not a law that I have to like graffiti bodies us there?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 16/07/2019 20:01

tattooed people can give blood

Stop being silly

soapona · 16/07/2019 20:05

No they can't!

Ginnymweasley · 16/07/2019 20:06

Yes they can as long as a certain amount of time has passed since the tattoo was done. I think it's a year but I'm not sure.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/07/2019 20:07

It is four months I believe.

BitchQueen90 · 16/07/2019 20:07

@soapona of course you bloody can. I've got tattoos and I give blood. You can't give blood for 6 months after getting a tattoo but after that it's fine.

Ginnymweasley · 16/07/2019 20:08

Thanks I couldn't remember as it's been a while since I had a tattoo done.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 16/07/2019 20:08

Yes they can!!!!

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 16/07/2019 20:09

Same with acupuncture

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/07/2019 20:09

Oh and I don't give blood (not allowed due to epilepsy with less than three years between seizures) so don't give me the I'm a more altruistic person than you Hmm

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 16/07/2019 20:10

Read the article soapano

It doesnt say what you think it does

NotACleverName · 16/07/2019 20:11

I agree your choice but don't take offence if someone doesn't want to employ or date you. Or neighbours secretly think you lower the tone.

If my neighbours think I'm "lowering the tone" because of my tattoos then that's on them. Not me. And it quite frankly says more about them than me, too. Thankfully I don't have stuck up, cat's arsehole mouth neighbours so it's a moot point anyway.

Just as your image conscious so are us non tattooed people when we stroll past you our the way to being altruistic and giving blood

This may just be the most unintentionally hilarious thing I've read all week, and it's only Tuesday.

If I think someone has done something completely naff and tacky to their house in my street all I can do is think "yikes what were they thinking?".

I don't know if you're aware of this, @soapona, but people are not houses.

NotACleverName · 16/07/2019 20:12

Guidelines currently state that donors should wait just four months to give blood after getting a tattoo

It's literally. fucking. there. in the article.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 16/07/2019 20:14

This may just be the most unintentionally hilarious thing I've read all week, and it's only Tuesday

Give it time...she may post again

katseyes7 · 16/07/2019 20:34

*don't take offence if someone doesn't want to date or employ you".

l can't say l've ever had a problem with either, to be honest. l've had four jobs since l got my first tattoo, and several relationships. None of them seemed to have an issue with it.

katseyes7 · 16/07/2019 20:36

"if someone has done something naff and tacky to their house in MY street" (my capitals)

We're thinking Jack and Vera's cladding on Coronation Street, aren't we?
