to not want to sign off my emails with preferred pronouns?

AlphaBites · 10/07/2019 21:46

We've had an email do the rounds today at work saying in the next few weeks all staff are expected to sign off with their preferred pronouns, to save any embarrassment for any staff. Hmm

I don't want to.

Can I fight this somehow?

Dial up that hysteria, baby!

RosesAndRaindrops · 12/07/2019 22:37

OK, threatening to dox people definitely not cool

Roses what word do you use to distinguish the group of humans that are adult females? (Please don’t start with ‘sex is a spectrum’ as we know people with disorders of sexual development (aka ‘intersex’) are Male or female with disorders of sexual development). What word do you use to describe the group of people that trans identified men would look to for a surrogate?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/07/2019 22:38

Say - do you mean type or communicate, perhaps?

And, erm, that's a ridiulous concept. I'd be restricted to numerals, the word clean and dirty, scuffed at a push... and the components of the average house.

How would I order my fish and chips? Buy gin... sheer luncy!

OldCrone · 12/07/2019 22:39

That’s really unpleasant to threaten people like that.

And hypocritical from someone who said earlier that they were "working to make society a more equal and nicer place for people". But not for anyone who disagrees with them, clearly.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/07/2019 22:40

OOps! here come the deletions... we C+Pd a very naughty post Grin

NewarkShark · 12/07/2019 22:40

To me though, my sense of self is woman too and it is just as important and a part of me being a woman as my body is

That’s fair enough. Your identity is yours to know and to have and I totally respect that, as I hope that you can respect I don’t have any sense of gender (not because I want to shit on trans people, but because I just don’t think I have one)

OldCrone · 12/07/2019 22:40

So I think you've just agreed that we should classify people according to biology, roses. That seems like progress.

PinkieTuscadero · 12/07/2019 22:41

Yeah, she's just a lovely person who wants to show kindness to all. And rant and rave and threaten people on Mumsnet.

Throckmorton · 12/07/2019 22:41

I stand by everything I have said. None of it is transphobic.

ShinyForrid · 12/07/2019 22:46

Weird bullying internet bitter behaviours aside and getting back to the point of the thread:

What fuckery is this? I have to state I’m she/her in work emails so that trans people can not get their feelings hurt? Woman up, people. Woman up!

SlocombePooter · 12/07/2019 22:46

Antecedent I'm pleased for you that you have some friends and a hobby. I would have guessed otherwise. Do you all get together and dress up in spiffy uniforms? Just so I can picture you more clearly.

Off to hide under the bedclothes now. Night all!

ShinyForrid · 12/07/2019 22:46

internet nutter

XXcstatic · 12/07/2019 22:49

I'll share every thread on it here in a group on FB who work to ID transphobes and out them to their employers. They are very successful at it too

I hope all the posters who couldn't see the problem with putting pronouns on emails are paying attention: everyone who said women should be kind - it was just a small thing, who asked all what all the fuss was about.

This is why it matters. This is why it is not a small thing. Because, little by little, people like antecedent are eroding every single right that women have. Our rights to single sex facilities. Our right to be treated by HCPs of the same sex. Women's sports. Our right to express our views. Our very identities as women. And if we fail to comply, we are met with threats.

It starts with small things like email footers. It always starts with language. It ends with the complete erosion of women's rights.

So now do you get why it's a problem?

PinkieTuscadero · 12/07/2019 22:51

'do as we say or we will terrorise you, woman'

ShinyForrid · 12/07/2019 22:52

She/her is saying fuck this shit, quite frankly.

Throckmorton · 12/07/2019 22:54

Well said XXcstatic

RosesAndRaindrops · 12/07/2019 22:55

Because, little by little, people like antecedent are eroding every single right that women have.

See, as much as that poster was well out of order (horrible to threaten to dox people)
how the heck are trans people eroding every single right that women have?
Hyperbole.
I can still vote, I can still own property, I can still be seen by a doctor of my choice, I can ask for a specific one if I have a preference etc...

RosesAndRaindrops · 12/07/2019 22:56

What fuckery is this? I have to state I’m she/her in work emails so that trans people can not get their feelings hurt? Woman up, people. Woman up!

I think it's more to make it seem normal instead of othering?
That's how I see it anyway

ShinyForrid · 12/07/2019 23:00

Othering? Oh come the fuck on. Welcome to being a woman, lovelies.

Throckmorton · 12/07/2019 23:03

I think it's more to make it seem normal instead of othering?

Which would be fine if there was no downside to women stating their female pronouns in a work setting - except there is - it increases bias against them. So an action (putting your pronouns in your email signature) that may help a tiny number of people, actually disadvantages about half of the workforce (ie women).

RosesAndRaindrops · 12/07/2019 23:03

Othering? Oh come the fuck on

Sorry, completely off topic now but totally read that in Bridget Jones' sweary mate voice lol.
"Come the fuck on, Bridget!"
Sorry. As you were

ScrimshawTheSecond · 12/07/2019 23:04

We must be kind by doing this tiny little hardly anything no-matter thing, otherwise you will dox us, get us fired and threaten us?

I see.
