Eastie77 · 13/07/2019 22:37

Wearing a gold name necklace and/or gold sovereign ring

Carpet in the bathroom

Drinking pre mixed cans of alcohol in public

Hen parties that involve women staggering around drunk in public, waving inflatable penises, wearing pink sashes and t-shirts emblazoned with 'Chantelle's Hens' on the front

Having a stag do in Las Vegas

Thickly buttered white bread with breakfast

Carrying certain designer bags

SemperIdem · 13/07/2019 22:37

Downstairs

Being “common” and stupid aren’t synonymous.

MotherofKitties · 13/07/2019 22:48

Spitting in the street

Drinking alcohol in the street (and I don't mean in an alfresco restaurant)

Parents swearing/aggressively shouting at their children in public

Bad manners

Deliberately spelling words in "txt spk"; it drives me insane, just spell the full goddamn word....! (Mumsnet abbreviations don't count Smile)

Leggings

Smoking

Using different coloured pegs on the same items of washing on the line

I think this one is my favourite, your mum sounds hilarious

Felicia4 · 13/07/2019 23:13

I've come to the conclusion based on MN that I'm commonly poshGrin

ShitStormInATeacup · 13/07/2019 23:13

Common-ness is all in the eye of the beholder. What's common to one person could be classy to someone else.

bingowingsmcgee · 13/07/2019 23:23

Lip fillers, fake tan, visible hair extensions, fake tits, loud public swearing, sliders, weird spellings of kids' names

SemperIdem · 14/07/2019 00:32

Almost everyone at a St Ives children’s disco this evening.

Aggressive children, adults being outraged that the bar had closed so going out to bring in cans to drink, then becoming aggressive.

Special props to the 10 year old girl who attempted a planned swipe of my 4 year olds toy from the table, right in front of me.

Never again.

Pointlessness · 14/07/2019 08:58

Showing signs of being desperate to be middle class, when you are in fact working class like the rest of us.

Judging people without understanding things from their point of view.

Not looking closely at, or working to improve, your own shortcomings.

Judging people for being loud. Unless they are being abusive/aggressive and swearing, it's none of your business.

Eustasiavye · 14/07/2019 14:02

Hey, I've just used different coloured pegs to hang out my washing.
How common am I? 😁😁😁😁

Mopmum35 · 14/07/2019 14:06

Love that. Bloody brilliant.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 14/07/2019 15:37

Oh dear god, yes: fake Christmas trees.

CountFosco · 14/07/2019 17:37

I like to buy whatever is on offer in Morrison’s

A perfectly reasonable approach to wine buying Smile. 'Knowing' about wine just tends to increase your wine bill but not necessarily the pleasure derived from it.

shinynewapple · 14/07/2019 19:28

@costacoffeecup your university analogy is ridiculous. A whole lot more people went to university in the 1990's than the 1970's - is this because people that age group are less common? I think you will find that people for people if a particular generation there was an expectation of a university education which wasn't there previously and thankfully seems to be dropping off now - probably due to everybody knowing at least one university graduate working in Costa/ McDonald's/a random pub.

CitadelsofScience · 14/07/2019 19:45

Why are fake Christmas trees common?

We've had ours years, I'm not paying to have a real tree cut down to sit in the house for three weeks and then get recycled.

AdoraBell · 14/07/2019 19:57

🤣 at fake a Christmas trees, I don’t need hay fever taking over me living in my home during the festive season.

Pikapikachooo · 14/07/2019 22:08

For me it’s all about values

Someone can fill in the many boxes that define common . But they can be decent people that work , love their children and want the best and yet they are still
Maligned

NoTheresa · 15/07/2019 13:34

Re. previous comment:
Neurologists are not usually covered in tattoos.

Chloe9 · 15/07/2019 14:16

@GunpowderGelatine

I have that hand wash Blush undecanted and one in both the bathroom and the kitchen

It's the only thing that doesn't hammer my skin and I wash my hands A LOT

Chloe9 · 15/07/2019 14:20

Middle class I am not though.

Ilovemypantry · 15/07/2019 16:43

fake Christmas trees
Really? That must mean that most of the population are common in December 😂😂

31RueCambon · 15/07/2019 16:56

I do a few of these common things because they are easier (Artificial christmas tree) but nobody in their right mind would consider me common so I can get away with it.
Everybody can get away with it!

woodhill · 15/07/2019 19:10

I think wearing an off the shoulder top with a thick strapped white bra looks unkempt and may fall into the 'c' category.
