I have a throw at the bottom of the bed, it's a merino wool one and keeps my feet warm. In winter I use it as an extra layer. So practical, not decorative!

SolsticeBabyMaybe · 09/07/2019 16:05

Lol!!

I don't think they're supposed to be bed decorations I think it's just for the photo!

But if you find silly styling amusing then you may like this website (I think it's hilarious)

Throw, no decorative anything Grin
I get really really cold feet and have to sleep with socks on

Can't see anything wrong with it at all. Looks fine to me .. Confused

Ticklingcheese · 09/07/2019 16:15

solsticebabymaybe shouldn't have clicked your link 🤣.

Who puts their books in the wrong way... How, why?

lazylinguist · 09/07/2019 16:15

Sure, but they are not taken out and put back on every day. Making the bed should be enough.

Yes but it's not about whether it's 'enough'. It's about how people like their house to look. Nobody is claiming decorative cushions are necessary. And no, ornaments don't need to be taken off and put back on every day, but they do gather dust and make cleaning your house take longer.

Most people spend at least some money and effort on making their home look nice with things that are not strictly necessary or useful, or that require some upkeep or care. The OP has just picked a particular example she doesn't like/do, but it's no sillier than lots of other examples you could pick.

RockinHippy · 09/07/2019 16:17

I can still spare 69seconds a day

That's impressive time keeping.

😂😂😂😂😂

Bloody clumsy fingers 🙄

NeverSayFreelance · 09/07/2019 16:19

I hate decorative pillows. Spend ages in the spare room at my DF's house lobbing the pillows across the room so I can get into the bed.

SolsticeBabyMaybe · 09/07/2019 16:20

Ooh @Youmadorwhat I like that unusual colour scheme

lazylinguist · 09/07/2019 16:22

SolsticeBabyMaybe - that website is indeed hilarious, even though I like pretty much every wanky decor picture on there Blush.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 09/07/2019 16:22

I have different sets of decoration pillows depending on the bed set. It takes seconds to do in the morning

Yes but where do they go overnight?

I also blame this cushion-and-throw fashion for the lack of attractive designs for patterned duvet covers and pillowcases. If people stack a ton of throws and cushions on top then OK they don't want a patterned quilt cover and pillowcases. But I do!

I love how anything can descend into a polarised shouting match on AIBU

Me too. Where else can we happily rage over the trivial niggles of modern life?

SolsticeBabyMaybe · 09/07/2019 16:27

@lazylinguist yes it's definitely a love/hate thing!

SolsticeBabyMaybe · 09/07/2019 16:30

I used to love all white bed sheets with a beautiful woollen throw just at the foot of the bed, until I discovered dp who I'd just started seeing thought I just didn't have any bedsheets!!! He thought the white linen etc were just pillows and duvet! Why he stayed, I'll never know...

I don't like thousands of pillows because I don't like having to store them on the floor overnight, seems odd somehow? But I am partial to an unnecessary, oversized Oxford pillow or two.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 09/07/2019 16:30

When I think of display purposes only bed throw and pillows, I think of the ones in hotel rooms which are filthy and usually covered in invisible dried jizz and other bodily fluids.

I can think of nothing less useful for my time of discarding and then arranging pointless pillows each day.

MrsMoastyToasty · 09/07/2019 16:37

I stayed in an Airbnb recently and the bed in my room had 9 cushions on it plus 4 pillows. If I'd climbed into it as it was my head would have been half way down the bed with my feet hanging over the edge. As it was none of them were suitable for lounging against as they had bobbles and relief designs on them.

Think there is lots of OK bedding, depending on taste:

Anewchapter · 09/07/2019 17:13

... presumably just before you get into bed... I once heard someone do a whole monologue on the merits (or not) of arranging scatter cushions and blankets on the bed only to throw them on the floor at night. 30 seconds a day x 365 days x 40 years etc and how that equates to days of your life you’ll never get back. I’m still partial to a scatter cushion or three though Smile

Louiselouie0890 · 09/07/2019 17:21

My mums bed is just like this. I tried it got sick of it and gave up. I do think it looks lovely bit I just wanna zonk into bed at night not rearrange it

Shockers · 09/07/2019 17:28

I think definitions of ‘a nice home’ differ widely.

My definition would never include anything in satin or polyester - which scatter cushions and throws often are.

IMHO, there’s nothing nicer than a high quality white cotton cover on a lovely airy duvet. Horses for courses and all that.

teenmum18 · 09/07/2019 17:35

I used to until life got too busy. Its lucky to get made now let alone have cushions and throws 😩

notso · 09/07/2019 17:51

I agree. I think dressed beds along with stunt fruit, show towels and other display only items are part of a staged 'nobody lives here look' that does nothing for me.

Now excuse me, Johanna Konta will not win this match by herself......

Grin Grin Grin

fair enough

schnubbins · 09/07/2019 18:09

I make my bed every day but that's because my husband manages to mangle it up every night and I hate getting in to a messy bed. When he is away travelling its great as all I have to do is pull up the duvet and straighten the pillow as I hardly move at all.I always have white cotton sheets and duvet with a contrasting pillow and one bolster pillow as 'decoration'.

oldmumnewmum · 09/07/2019 18:11

i have a throw, 8 decorative cushions, 4 pillows, 1 L shaped pillow and 1 teddy....so not over the top...i do it because i suffer from insomnia and one piece of advice was to make your bedroom look like somewhere you'd want to sleep, so no junk, and aesthetically pleasing...still can't sleep...

NeckPainChairSearch · 09/07/2019 18:11

Yes, this probably covers it nicely Grin
