I do make the bed in the morning though, duvet or sheet (sheet in the summer) folded back neatly to allow the bottom sheet & mattress to air.

That is what I'd normally do. Today, shoulder and wrist bursitis has halted usual service so it's more akin to Tracey Emin's art work My Bed ...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Bed

I like a calming atmosphere in the bedroom with as little clutter as is practical for someone who wants a pot of tea, some books, a bottle of water etc. etc. close by on the bedside table. Plus a 'ready to hand' blanket in case it turns cold even in Summer.

I can dream. Smile

pippistrelle · 09/07/2019 15:17

I thought putting a hat on a bed was considered bad luck?

Only if worn by a magpie.

I love how anything can descend into a polarised shouting match on AIBU.

RockinHippy · 09/07/2019 15:22

We do 🤷‍♀️

It hasn't yet.

But that's only because no one's mentioned IRONING their 43 shiny pillows, cushions and pointless matching embossed fabric strip at the end of the bed yet.

I'm very impressed with the amount of people on this thread that have the time to do it! Maybe this is specific to people who have time to reply during the day and the evening crowd will be as slovenly as me!

Nasty unnecessary dig

I’m self employed so I can reply whenever I want to, it doesn’t mean I’m unemployed a SAHM or whoever else you were digging at while you replied in the middle of the day!

that's the beauty of being a manager, we can multitask Wink

IncrediblySadToo · 09/07/2019 15:26

@buttertoasty

Any chance of a photo?!

viques · 09/07/2019 15:27

Is it just me who gets a mild case of red mist when people call cushions on a bed "pillows"..........

Admit I haven't read the whole thread because I am watching the tennis and can't do 8 pages, but am hoping there are fellow cushionistas here.

Yup, nasty😏

I'm also self employed & disabled. I'm continuously knackered by my health issues & I have a DD with a disability. I can still spare 69seconds a day to make a bed look nice though 🤷‍♀️

skybluee · 09/07/2019 15:28

Oh I feel better now. I sometimes take the duvet off completely and let the fitted sheet sit in the sunshine, didn't know it was commonly accepted as being good for the sheets, just thought it would be nice for it to get some air and light.

ChippingInLowCarbing · 09/07/2019 15:29

What do people do with the clothes from the wardrobe overspill?
errr
buy bigger wardrobe and declutter until it all fits. I really do hate mess!

Right with you there Heatwave!

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 09/07/2019 15:30

s it just me who gets a mild case of red mist when people call cushions on a bed "pillows"

how do you know they are not "pillows"? Grin

Lweji · 09/07/2019 15:32

That's impressive time keeping. Wink

steff13 · 09/07/2019 15:33

I make my bed, and put on decorative pillows. I don't do hats or whatever.

Ticklingcheese · 09/07/2019 15:33

Apologies viques in my defence British is not my native tongue.

But in my mind cushions are old fashioned decorated pillow things my dgm or dggm would have.

Pillows in my imagination is something you could put your head on.

But my mistake, I'm sure someone will come along to correct me Blush.

queenMab99 · 09/07/2019 15:35

Mine is often decorated with muddy pawprints and the dog's pillow at the foot.

RollOnSummerBreak · 09/07/2019 15:37

5 decorative pillows here. Different shapes and sizes. With a bear in front my ds saved his first lot of. Pocket money to buy me.
I have different sets of decoration pillows depending on the bed set. It takes seconds to do in the morning

Rachelover40 · 09/07/2019 15:38

I don't see what 'they' have done that's so awful and it's an attractive picture.

Presumably the stuff is taken (or slung) off the bed before the owner goes to bed. If they remember.

I've put things on the bed before now and gone to bed with them still on there because I've been so tired. In the morning they're all over the place.

GreenGrowTheRushesOhh · 09/07/2019 15:44

I believe it’s called ‘microscheduling’

ControversialFerret · 09/07/2019 15:51

Our bed is usually decorated with dogs - normally upside down with their paws in the air, fast asleep. I realise that statement probably earns me a place on a MN watchlist somewhere, because of my slack attitude towards pet hair and mud... Grin

Usernamewillautodestrustin · 09/07/2019 15:53

My kids decorate my bed with whatever they are eating or playing with...if I am really lucky they leave things in the bed for me to find at night. The toothbrush that my 5 year old left was a pure delight!

bluebluezoo · 09/07/2019 15:53

But that's only because no one's mentioned IRONING their 43 shiny pillows, cushions and pointless matching embossed fabric strip at the end of the bed yet

Not to mention washing them all twice a week because anything less is grim Grin

I don’t like it personally. My mum does it and I hate having to chuck off countless decorations before I can go to bed. I want to just get in and get comfy. I don’t like how it looks, either. Cluttered and uncomfortable.

They are cushions not pillows because

They are the wrong size .

The wrong shape.

Are not wearing pillow cases.

Now excuse me, Johanna Konta will not win this match by herself......

IncrediblySadToo · 09/07/2019 15:59

I always have crisp white linen on my bed

I have 6 pillows (not cushions to whoever was getting her knickers in a knot about people using the wrong word!). And recently I’ve been using some non white pillow cases I love just because I like the way it looks

Sometimes I’ll out a throw over the end if the bed if I think it might get used or an actual linen sheet if it’s hot & the duvet is likely to get discarded - so it’s all semi practical but also pretty

I dislike fussy cushions and detest anything shines- like those pointless things hotels put across the bed urgh. Discarded immediately -

I’ll occasionally drape a pretty scarf on the bed or something but that’s generally because I have a couple I live but can’t wear and this way I get to see them & they look nice on the white linen 🤣

I wish I could make a bed to look as nice as my Mum & Aunty. I don’t know what they do that I get wrong, but they can just make any bed look so inviting, plump duvet and lovely. I do not possess the same skill set unfortunately

I need another cat or dog- they really do make the bed look good (if they’re very cute!)

changeyoursheetsweekly · 09/07/2019 16:00

I have a steamer that I use to steam the sheets when they're already on the bed. Less work than ironing but less slovenly than having creased sheets Grin
