I have a throw for the bottom of the bed. I also make it as soon as I get up.

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 09/07/2019 18:21

I have two big cushions on my bed. I do remove them at night but they're v useful if I want to lounge on my bed. I can sit or lie back on them comfortably. I live in a house share so my bed is my "space".

My cushions are big though, and they do get "used". I've just never viewed it as that big a deal to fluff them up and put them on the bed of a morning or put them on the ottoman for the night at bed time. It's just another part of making the bed or part of the bed time ritual.

I am a fan of the show home look though. I am freakily tidy!!

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 09/07/2019 18:22

Throws at the bottom of beds piss me off though, they're fiddly!

LittleAndOften · 09/07/2019 18:43

When I met DH he had 12 decorative cushions on the bed, given by his mum. And another 8 in his guest room.

First thing to go when I came along! We had better things to do on the bed than line up cushions Wink

crosstalk · 09/07/2019 19:31

Another one who hates dressed beds - I end up chucking stuff on chairs. I keep on thinking it's yet more 1st world money spent on inessentials and more room for mites/moths/etc. Each to their own, however.

madcatladyforever · 09/07/2019 19:44

Perfick!!!

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 09/07/2019 20:05

Went to have a look at what delights were currently living on my bed, not too bad today, made, sat on so wrinkled, a remote control for a TV I'm pretty sure we dont have anymore, pillows where they should be, my childhood teddy snuggled between pillows- as he should be, How do dinosaurs say goodnight? And The Christmasaurus plonked on my pillow, four odd socks at the bottom, and a lump whitch turned out to be Thomas and his bloody friends. That's the only decoration I need!

Youmadorwhat · 09/07/2019 20:16

Before DD goes to bed... teddy included 😂

TheHandsOfNeilBuchanan · 09/07/2019 20:21

We have four pillows, three cushions, a pregnancy/breast feeding pillow/baby seat combo (best thing I own JoJo), a throw and often a cat on our bed.

TheHandsOfNeilBuchanan · 09/07/2019 20:25

The cushions get used, for naps, bf, baby obstacle course, throwing at the cat when he tries to get in the baby's crib, reading. The throw is cotton, huge and in use at the moment as it's too warm for the duvet , I have a knitted one for winter that's great for snuggling to watch a film.

clairedelalune · 09/07/2019 20:38

I have a throw because my gorgeous patterned bedding would clash with curtains. I also have a blanket at end of bed and 3 cushions on the bed. I iron my bedding. A nice looking, welcoming bed gives me something to look forward to. And it takes about a minute to make.

In a hotel however the last thing i want is cushions and throws as they are manky in hotels.

Littleblurry · 09/07/2019 21:09

Sorry if I touched a nerve with anyone earlier - wasn't trying to imply that there is anything wrong with being a SAHM or having time on your hands. Just pondering whether others with small kids and full time jobs are just as bad as me. I know my house was in much better order when I was on mat leave. (oh and whoever pointed out that I was also on MN in the middle of the day - busted! I was on a train to london for a meeting)

EileenAlanna · 09/07/2019 21:23

I'm pretty relaxed about making the bed, Sometimes I can be bothered, others not so much. When I don't make the bed I call it an Installation & the heap of clothes on the floor a Modern Sculpture. Much more classy than hats on a bed I think.

PetrichorRain · 10/07/2019 16:34

I only have silk, silk velvet, or lambswool on my bed. No polyester, urgh.

I can see why people might think it a waste of time or money, but pretty much everyone does things that someone else would think a waste of time or money. If it "sparks joy" (actually hate this phrase but whatever) what harm does it do anyone else? I grew up in a shithole and now I have a lovely home that does look like it came out of a homes magazine (or alternatively like a Dunelm display, if you prefer) but it's not bothering anyone else, so... take off your judgypants?

PetrichorRain · 10/07/2019 16:35

And I have a full time job AND a small child - but luckily I'm quite senior and wfh a lot so can mumsnet as and when I see fit.

LakieLady · 10/07/2019 16:54

Our bed is usually decorated with dogs - normally upside down with their paws in the air, fast asleep. I realise that statement probably earns me a place on a MN watchlist somewhere, because of my slack attitude towards pet hair and mud...

It earns you a place on the list of people who have happy dogs!

howwudufeel · 10/07/2019 16:56

William Morris said have nothing in your house you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful. As a textiles I am sure he had stacks of cushions. Nothing wrong with an appreciation of the aesthetic. It makes the world a pleasanter place to be.

Onepuddingisneverenough · 10/07/2019 17:33

I always dress my bed in the morning (not with hats though!)
I find it’s lovely to go to bed and see it so welcoming
I don’t sleep great and find it helps me to drop off easier
If it didn’t I’m not sure I’d bother

Rtruth · 10/07/2019 17:54

Some I know mentioned day and night pillows....

Only people seeing my bedroom is partner and I. So why would I waste time decorating it as neither of things that happen in the bed require extra stuff to be in the way!

flyingfox225 · 10/07/2019 17:56

@Youmadorwhat - I love your bed frame!

Brocks1981 · 10/07/2019 17:56

My hubby always has scatter cushions and also has his teddy from childhood (mummy attachement issues). But the hats are a bit much. Altjough my hubby does have one on the bed post thats more due zo lack of space than decoration. Why 2 hats though.

TheSandman · 10/07/2019 18:03

My bed (shared w wife) is 'tidy' for about 15 minutes after we lay new sheets and duvet covers. After that it looks like the aftermath of some sort of softplay WW1 re-enactment... till it's time to put on new sheets. Who the fuck has time to make their beds neat and 'decorate' them?
I guess I might do that if I was deliberately seducing someone (other than my wife) to share it with me but otherwise - nah. Life's too short.

RenoSusan · 10/07/2019 18:05

In the US it. is considered bad luck to have a hat on a bed.

Winenotttea · 10/07/2019 18:12

My dogs would be livid if I made the bed properly each day, a quick flick of the duvet to straighten it up is alll ours gets, just enough to look ‘tidy’ but with enough give near the pillows for the dogs to climb under for their daily nap 😆
That is except for clean bedding day when the door stays shut and the buggers can keep clear!

MarvellousMonsters · 10/07/2019 18:18

I barely have time to shake the duvet straight in the morning. Who faffs about with decorative bollocks?? Hmm
