Decorative cushions on beds are my pet hate in hotels. They're not useful for anything and they clutter the room up at night when you just want to sleep on a proper pillow. If the room's big enough you can put them on the armchairs (but then why weren't they on the armchairs in the first place?)

Celebelly · 09/07/2019 13:02

Decorative cushions are the worst.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 09/07/2019 13:05

I suppose it’s just a case of some people like a nice home and others don’t mind mess.

But there's nothing you can do with extra cushions at night except dump them on the floor and that is a mess.

NeckPainChairSearch · 09/07/2019 13:05

I love a smoothly made bed, but I don't really like the cluttery look. We have a plain wooden bed in an airy room that I much prefer with plain white bedding and not much else, apart from fresh air Grin

I'm obviously in the minority, but a lot of the Instragmmy rooms look a bit 'Bedding Collection by Peter Andre/Kylie/Whoever' which isn't really my cup of tea.

I have some reading cushions in a wicker basket next to the bed.

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 09/07/2019 13:07

so what? Some people still like the look during the day.

I like extra pillows because it's more comfortable to read, I don't sleep on them 🤷

SuperPixie247 · 09/07/2019 13:11

I had a decorative cushion once. It pissed me right off, laying there on the floor each time I didn't use it. Silently judging me as a slatternly cow.

Reader, it is still on the floor.

whatswrongwithmyarm · 09/07/2019 13:14

I do. Love a nicely made bed. Only problem is in Australia I have to check them for huntsmen after they've been on the floor Grin

Ticklingcheese · 09/07/2019 13:15

Aarh come on, I know it is for show, but you don't have to be messy, to not showcase your bed.

And do you know, health wise you should be airing your bed for a loong time, before covering it up?

BlueSkiesLies · 09/07/2019 13:17

I used to have three decorative pillows, and a throw.

God knows why I bothered!

howwudufeel · 09/07/2019 13:17

Yes. I am an airer and fling the windows open first thing, whatever the weather. A bed with nice things on it does look better and feels better getting into it every night. Other people obviously disagree and don’t mind getting into an unmade bed.

TenDays · 09/07/2019 13:18

Most days, depends what shift I'm working, it's all I can do to throw the duvet back on to stop the cats colonising the warm bit. Last time my bed was 'decorated' was with a pungent Whiskas-scented garnish.

Zaphodsotherhead · 09/07/2019 13:18

I don't make my bed until I'm about to get into it.

I heard somewhere about how it's healthy to air the bed (I get quite sweaty sometimes, and the thought of leaving that all covered back up makes me cringe) and I like to get into a freshish bed at the end of every day, rather than one that's been closed up and pulled over.

I might 'dress' a spare bed though... Just so that every time I looked in the spare room it would be all 'hotel room' and tidy.

justasking111 · 09/07/2019 13:21

That is an instagram bed, before you sneer think those folk are being gifted thousands of pounds worth of stuff for a few fancy shots. So who is the mug. My friend does this, had a new bed, bedside tables and a few throws on the back of it.

I have a lovely coverlet from Macys that in this heat is the only thing I sleep under. The extra pillows are great for propping up and reading. When ready for sleep they do get thrown onto the floor. I have decorative pillows too.

BlooperReel · 09/07/2019 13:22

Does the pile of clean washing that needs to be put away count as 'decorating' my bed? Blush

minniemoll · 09/07/2019 13:24

My bed is airing (as it probably will be till bedtime) and is decorated with a cat.

saraclara · 09/07/2019 13:24

Lack of throws and decorative pillows does not = messy.
I love a nicely made bed...with nothing on it at all but the bedding. Clean lines are crisp and beautiful.

madcatladyforever · 09/07/2019 13:25

I'm a very tidy person but my bed never gets made let alone decorated. I get up at 5am, stagger about in a trance then fall out of the front door. Repeat backwards in the evening. I'm nearly 60 and working 6 days a week is too much for me.

Ticklingcheese · 09/07/2019 13:28

minniemoll that could be ours 😀.

Imo a much nicer/cosier Pic than the instagram ones.

Foslady · 09/07/2019 13:28

Four pillows, three cushions and a throw.

For years I hated going to bed. This way u find it more welcoming

akdln23rijwoicxvnds · 09/07/2019 13:33

I don't even make the bed, let alone decorate it. Got way better things to be doing with my time.

....like posting on mumsnet for example.

frugalkitty · 09/07/2019 13:34

I have a throw and decorative pillows on my bed but I’ll admit that if the cat has bedded down on it before I make it, I usually leave it as I don’t like to disturb him Blush

TheresTheFlyingFuckIDontGive · 09/07/2019 13:34

The people saying that not decorating the bed equals messy, how rude! I think that all the cushions makes it look messy. And even more messy when you throw them all onto the floor every night, causing potential trip hazards when you need the bathroom.

PianoPiano · 09/07/2019 13:34

Decoratice cushions look nice. What I don't understand is those fake folded bedspreads draped across the bed.

leckford · 09/07/2019 13:35

It looks like a page from Rightmove!

NeckPainChairSearch · 09/07/2019 13:35

Not putting 'nice things' on your bed doesn't = unmade bed Confused

I like the clean lines of plain white bedding, smoothly made every morning and no clutter.
