I never said I don’t “make” the bed I said I don’t “decorate” the bed!

My bed is decorated with cats, usually....

Deadringer · 09/07/2019 12:15

Here's mine

Pineapplefish · 09/07/2019 12:15

We have six decorative cushions on the bed (no hats though).

They get taken off in the night and usually replaced in the morning. I agree with you OP that it's a bit of a pain and I'm not sure I'd bother with them if I was starting afresh. But now we have them it seems silly not to use them. And they do look nice.

happyhillock · 09/07/2019 12:15

I have 2 pillows, air my bed every day with bedroom window's open, nothing decorative on my bed at all, don't see the need no one but me and my DP see the bedroom

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 09/07/2019 12:16

I am still confused, why wouldn't you want a bed that you think looks nice?

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 09/07/2019 12:17

I used to have 6 scatter cushions, 4 pillows to sleep on (2 each) a throw and a runner on my bed. I’ve recently changed colour, so building back up to that. Dp hates it and likes to throw them across the room when he gets in bed Hmm

PookieDo · 09/07/2019 12:18

I CBA with most of this but I do have 2 nice extra cushions on my bed. They are good for propping yourself up. I throw them on the floor when I get into bed

Dog messes bed up all the time it’s half pointless

IncrediblySadToo · 09/07/2019 12:18

*oopIt

It looks better and much more homely. If you don't like it then don't do it. Not really something to have an entire thread about.*

You must be new to MN

...and the internet in general, it’s really OK one entire thread on beds isn’t going to cause it to implode!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

BillywigSting · 09/07/2019 12:19

No I don't do any of that. When I go to bed I just want to get in not fuck about remove excess cushions and blankets.

I mean it looks quite pretty, but far too much effort. I just buy bed linen that I like and keep it very simple.

Walkerbean16 · 09/07/2019 12:19

I took this the other day to show my dh the plant I bought.

I thought most people had cushions on their bed.

To think the most ppl don’t decorate their beds??!!
Sparklypen · 09/07/2019 12:20

My DDs do decorate their beds - have done a few years now.

I can't be arsed

separatebeds · 09/07/2019 12:20

@Youmadorwhat I have exactly the same bed as you!!

missbattenburg · 09/07/2019 12:23

OP, everyone does this. It's a bit shameful that you don't to be honest.

I myself have upgraded from decorative throws to a muddy spaniel that is often oh-so-casually flung across my own bed. On specially posh days he manages to scrunch up the duvet to get mud on the sheets.

I am very houseproud Grin

saraclara · 09/07/2019 12:24

I don't go in my bedroom from the time I get up to the time I go to bed*. Why on earth would I decorate my bed every day?

*okay, maybe I might need to empty the laundry basket or change my clothes once in a while, but I'm not going to spend a second admiring the bed.

Mabellavender · 09/07/2019 12:24

We have 6 pillows and a decorative cushion on our bed! I use all of them at night!

We used to have more but it was annoying having to take them all off and put them back on every morning.

I do like a nicely made bed with cushions and throws, but not hats placed at a jaunty angle Grin

SudowoodoVoodoo · 09/07/2019 12:25

What happens to all the cushiony stuff at night? Do they get swept on to the floor or have to be stashed somewhere neat?

Cushions look nice on a photo, and are comfortable for sitting, but what about the rest of the time? The rest of the props, really???

DC3dilemma · 09/07/2019 12:27

Why do people make their beds? Honestly?

I fold the covers over the bottom, let it air and then pull it back over when I get in at night. Don’t want to trap all that sweat etc.

PookieDo · 09/07/2019 12:27

@SudowoodoVoodoo

The way I sleep virtually everything goes on the floor except one pillow and the duvet. Dog has one side I have the other then I pick it all back up in the morning

I often will go lie on my bed when I get home from work for 20 mins

lazylinguist · 09/07/2019 12:28

I really struggle with those decorative pillows that just get taken off at night!! What is the point?!!

On that basis, what is the point of anything purely decorative in a house? Pictures on the wall, any kind of ornaments, flowers. All pointless. Unless, of course, you like making your surroundings visually appealing to you, which is something that humans seem to like doing.

Come to think of it, we should probably all just wear plain smocks as well. Jewellery and stuff is pointless - and you only have to take the bloody stuff off when you go to bed!

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 09/07/2019 12:31

Why do people make their beds? Honestly?

because it looks nice, it feels neat and it's a nice way to start the day.
It's also more pleasant to go to bed in well made bed. It takes barely a minute.

You can still let air in before you make it!

fraxion · 09/07/2019 12:31

My friend's bed is like that sans the hats, teddies and straw bag. It looks lovely but personally I couldn't be arsed.

Lweji · 09/07/2019 12:32

Why would anyone put pillows on a bed every morning just to take them out at night?
Where do you put them all?
And who is going to see the bed?

I really can't be arsed.
As others, pull back sheets/covers in the morning, leave home, pull back on to get into bed.
I will make the bed if I'm expecting visitors. Usually. Because I may ask them to decorate the bed with their coats and bags. Grin

Lweji · 09/07/2019 12:33

On that basis, what is the point of anything purely decorative in a house? Pictures on the wall, any kind of ornaments, flowers.

Sure, but they are not taken out and put back on every day.

Making the bed should be enough.

transformandriseup · 09/07/2019 12:33

My bed is usually “decorated” with clean laundry throughout the day
