Experts say we should throw the covers back, leave the bed all day like this to kill the things that crawl on us whilst asleep. Shock

not sure leaving the bed unmade will kill any cat or child.

I see it as the opposite of a First World Problem. A “First World Joy” perhaps. Nice for people who have the time and money to spend gazing lovingly at some cushions as they go about their day, but not something to get worked up about either way.

It’s interesting that there’s a few who admit it winds their husbands up though. Your moment of, “Oo, lovely cushions,” is more important than your husbands’ comfort? How come he gets to go to bed irritated?

Pannalash · 09/07/2019 13:39

minniemoll cat decorations are the best 🐈

SerenDippitty · 09/07/2019 13:43

It looks better and much more homely.

Tbh I think the opposite, makes it look like a hotel room.

howwudufeel · 09/07/2019 13:45

I love hotel room bedrooms!

I don't make my bed until I'm about to get into it.

I heard somewhere about how it's healthy to air the bed (I get quite sweaty sometimes, and the thought of leaving that all covered back up makes me cringe) and I like to get into a freshish bed at the end of every day, rather than one that's been closed up and pulled over.

I always air the bed. It's got a thing at the bottom that a tv can go in so i drape the duvet over that so the mattress, sheets and the duvet can all air.

The sheets are fitted so sometimes need putting back on. Then I just flick the duvet out over the mattress to cover the bed. I just do that before getting back in the bed.

LadyRannaldini · 09/07/2019 13:48

Mine is decorated with a couple of cushions, pyjamas, t-shirts and a couple of bras waiting for the washing fairy to drop them in the basket. Are these not pictures of houses for sale? We kept special matching towels and posh soap at the ready when we were selling.

Nicolastuffedone · 09/07/2019 13:48

I air my bed while I’m showering and having breakfast. I always make my bed, I also have cushions and a throw. I also commit the MN so. Of ironing my bedlinen....

Zaphodsotherhead · 09/07/2019 13:49

Thank you Eliza9919, I don't feel quite so bonkers now. (Although I do also have to admit to sometimes hanging the duvet out of the window for extra 'bonus' airing...)

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/07/2019 13:53

I have no idea what people see in all the "bed dressing" and extra pillows, cushions and frilly bits.

Can't be doing with any of it.

Get it in hotels as well - all ends up on a chair/ the floor, depending so I can just get in under the actual covers and sleep on the actual pillows. Nothing else required.

justasking111 · 09/07/2019 13:53

I hang the duvet over the decking on a nice day to air when washing the bed linen

LakieLady · 09/07/2019 13:54

Where do people put all this superfluous old toot when they get into bed?

Obvs, if you have a bedroom big enough for an armchair or large ottoman, it can all go on there, but I've only ever lived in houses where the bedroom is just about big enough to hold a double bed, bedside cabinets, wardrobe, dressing table and laundry basket.

Aprillygirl · 09/07/2019 13:54

Sod that! I like my bed to be clear of any poncey cushions and shit so it's all ready for me to flop into at the end of a hard day. All that extra paraphernalia that people adorn their beds with is just extra breeding ground for bacteria and just causes more messing about and washing. Madness.

howwudufeel · 09/07/2019 13:55

I’m surprised nobody has come along to complain about fancy beds and that all they need is a clothesline to sleep on...

RedDogsBeg · 09/07/2019 14:03

No, I don't decorate my bed, I think it looks far too busy and fluffy for me. I like things clean, neat and clutter free and can't stand the rigmarole of lobbing cushions and throws off a bed onto a floor or chair just to enable you to get into bed, which then makes the floor or chair or room in general just look cluttered and messy.

It's all way too faffy for me, when I'm ready for bed I just want to get into bed with the minimum of fuss or effort.

I'm in NeckPainChairSearch's camp.

notso · 09/07/2019 14:03

It looks better and much more homely.

It doesn't look homely to me at all it looks like a display in Dunelm mill.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 09/07/2019 14:03

A bed with nice things on it does look better and feels better getting into it every night. Other people obviously disagree and don’t mind getting into an unmade bed.

I like my bed first aired and then properly made up and and I feel better if my bedroom is tidy at bedtime and I haven't just had to tip a load of tat (sorry, tasteful decorative cushions and throws) onto the floor just to get into it.

I don't care what people do in their own home so long as they're not cluttering up a perfectly good hotel room or holiday rental. I blame that Alex Polizzi woman.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 09/07/2019 14:04

I don't even make my bed
I pull the duvet back to air
It always has nice posh white cotton bedlinen
Can't abide cushiony cluttery shite
No bed decoration here.

LakieLady · 09/07/2019 14:04

But there's nothing you can do with extra cushions at night except dump them on the floor and that is a mess.

It's even more of a mess once the dog has decided to use them for her to recline on!

Actually, my bed was "dressed" this morning. It was wearing a lakeland terrier and an artfully draped fleece jacket.

katseyes7 · 09/07/2019 14:11

l remember a thread on here a while ago asking people to post pictures of their beds, so l posted mine.
Someone said "that's not yours, you've got that photo out of a magazine."
Because it's a four poster (not posh, honestly, l got it from a shop up north 20 years ago) and l have cushions and a nice throw on it, presumably. lf l'd have known about image searching at the time, l'd have suggested she did it.

NeckPainChairSearch · 09/07/2019 14:11

Yep - that's what I see as well. Occasionally, bed clutter can look nice. A friend has some oatmeal-coloured hessian/linen cushions and a chunky hand knitted throw that I covet slightly. It looks stylish and authentically useful, rather than shiny Dunelm Mill-type stuff.

changeyoursheetsweekly · 09/07/2019 14:11

This is my bed and I bloody love it. Not too many cushions and that throw feels AMAZING. I take many a midday nap upon this bed Grin

To think the most ppl don’t decorate their beds??!!
ANiceLuxury · 09/07/2019 14:12

I decorate our bed and the kids beds

katseyes7 · 09/07/2019 14:15

Like ihatemyselfdordoingthis, l don't make my bed in the mornings. l like to turn the duvet back to let it air.
And ditto, white bedding. l love it, l buy the 'hotel bedding' at TK Maxx. lt's decent quality and l just like the clean look of it.
The cushions and stuff usually only get an airing when l've got someone staying, to be honest. The rest of the time they live on the spare bed.
