To ask if those who want to leave the EU are happy to be personally worse off in order to do so

Following lots of discussion on the subject, it’s clear that leaving the EU is based on something other than financial impact, however, even the government’s impact assessments make it clear that there will be a negative impact.

Would you still chose to leave if you knew it would make you personally financially worse off?

I didn’t say “immigration”, I said FOM. The two are very different things.

I bet the very vast majority of Leavers would disagree with that.

I’m thinking in particular of those who think the black and brown faces will disappear once we Brexit.

But if its better will you and all the other remainers that have been proved wrong apologise for all the bullshit, bile and fuckwittery that you have put on others for having a different view

As I haven’t done that...no

One assumes that the leave voters calling me a traitor and telling me to go back to my own country will apologise if/when everything turns to shit

Lets be honest here...no matter what the result there will be a fuckload of name changing going on

derxa · 09/07/2019 20:16

There is no point to these threads because they just further entrench the hardened Leavers and Remainers and piss off the lurkers like me.

Bearbehind · 09/07/2019 20:17

So what do you suggest we do instead derxa?

OP posts:
Mintychoc1 · 09/07/2019 20:19

Don’t waste your time derxa. Bear never tires of her own opinion, and seems to have an endless appetite for it.

Yawn.

familycourtq · 09/07/2019 20:20

So your contention is that a majority of people who voted leave are racists, and in particular prejudiced against darker skinned races? Is that what you’re saying?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/07/2019 20:22

Wouldn’t disagree

Bearbehind · 09/07/2019 20:23

No, I’m saying it’s become pretty clear that the number 1 motivation for Brexit is immigration.

Theresa Mays red lines over FOM made it more so and it’s escalated from there.

Are you saying there aren’t any people who think Brexit will make dark skinned people ‘go home’?

God knows Grin Less hyperbole might be a start.

Less hyperbole might be a start

Well that’s Mumsnet done for!

AriadneesWeb · 09/07/2019 20:32

The timing of the Brexit vote was key. The media was showing images of thousands of economic migrants in Calais who had been allowed to reach our borders by other EU countries not enforcing Schengen rules. Germany was encouraging even more to come. The EU was threatening to force the UK to accommodate a quota of those people. So not only was there a great deal of concern about immigration, there was also a strong feeling that the EU had created this problem and landed it on our doorstep. Of course the Brexit vote was greatly affected by immigration issues.

Oliversmumsarmy · 09/07/2019 20:33

From a few pages back.

Do please continue to explain how the pound falling further will help us, rather than oversimplification of a complex issue

The pound falling make our goods and services cheaper so they become very attractive to other countries shopping around.

In the case of Germany I suspect joining the Euro and the having it devalued by poorer countries like Greece etc joining made Germany a more attractive proposition as opposed to them keeping the strong Deutschmark and pricing themselves out of the market place

Iyswim.

familycourtq · 09/07/2019 20:33

No I’m not saying that - TV coverage I’m inclined to trust has shown such people saying such things. I suspect you’re a little off the mark about Teresa May - she was a remainer at heart. Her biggest issue was being propped up by the DUP which probably explains the red lines to which you refer (imho).

I thought that my point was targeted at those that gave grief to brexiters, not those that didn't.

Bearbehind · 09/07/2019 20:37

family whoever pushed the red lines, it doesn’t really matter, they are there and they have allowed this process to become primarily about immigration.

familycourtq · 09/07/2019 20:38

@AriadneesWeb A great resume. To some people it did appear that Mrs Merkel had appointed herself the boss of Europe. I am not saying it’s true but I can see how it looked.

BoneyBackJefferson · 09/07/2019 20:40

Bearbehind

I'm beginning to wonder if its you that has an issue with immigration.

CassandraCross · 09/07/2019 20:40

Okay familycourtq you clearly take exception to my comments, either I'm not explaining myself well enough or you are wilfully misinterpreting them, there is little point going back and forth.

familycourtq · 09/07/2019 20:41

OP I still think you are off the mark about immigration. The issue May had is that the DUP and people like the ERG don’t consider us to have left if we still in the customs union and still have FOM. She couldn’t do a “softer” Brexit and get their support. But that wasn’t just about immigration.

Bearbehind · 09/07/2019 20:41

I d love to know how you work that one out boney! 😂

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 09/07/2019 20:43

family the DUP issue was that NI would be in CU and the rest of the UK wouldn’t be.

If the UK remained in SM/CU we could have left the EU already but we can’t because of FOM.

OP posts:
familycourtq · 09/07/2019 20:48

@CassandraCross it’s simple really. You said Op would not get any answers due to the demographic. I pointed out that she did get answers. Then you said she wouldn’t get the “breadth” she was asking for. I pointed out she hadn’t asked for breadth. It’s about what is actually posted. If me “willfully misunderstanding” means I am not party to all the things in you imagination rather than actually posted in the thread then you are either my Mum or right (or maybe both). Unfortunately I only have what is actually in the thread to go on.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/07/2019 20:49

I maybe boney

I may have missed nuance
