I'm cross that the clean bed luxury has been ruined

I've changed our bed today and it was overdue. I put the sheet and pillow back on but the duvet cover is a bit damp so has stayed on the airer.
I just went in to find DD lying on our bed, on the sheet in her outdoor clothes. Angry

Anyway I used to consider myself a slattern but not any more :) this has cheered me up

Blue we do actually, mainly because we don't have a lot of storage. It's never been a problem really, can have them washed and back on the bed within about four hours

RedSkyLastNight · 06/07/2019 14:22

So essentially you are not allowed to lie on clean sheets unless you are absolutely clean yourself and are wearing freshly washed clothes?
Lying on the sheets in clothes that are not overtly dirty but have been outside, gets you told off?
I'd be worried that you are setting your DC up to become overly anxious or developing OCD tendencies.

MrsHardbroom · 06/07/2019 14:22

Didn't know this was a thing. Sure if you put it out of your mind, the sheets will still feel clean.

BiscuitDrama · 06/07/2019 14:22

But I wouldn’t want muddy clothes on the sofa either?
That’s the bit I don’t get. If you’re worried about ‘germs’ from outside on your clothes then you’d need to get changed at the door, like I take shoes off. Or designate sofas as ‘unclean’ and beds as ‘clean’ otherwise you’re contaminating your pyjamas.

Pipandmum · 06/07/2019 14:23

@LadyBahBahBah you made me laugh!
I hate it when the dogs have been to the beach and then roll around on my bed, but we all lay in our beds in our clothes all the time. My daughter Has frequently woken up still in her uniform! Not on purpose mind.
Guess I’ve got really low standards...

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 06/07/2019 14:24

I love a nice clean bed, I can see I'm not alone but plenty do disagree

I think most people are a bit Confused because you still do have a clean bed.

She's not actively filthy, just in clothes that happen to have passed across the threshold.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 06/07/2019 14:26

I would have her taken into local authority care.

RosaWaiting · 06/07/2019 14:26

I'm the same as you OP.

my mum doesn't get it all!

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 14:27

Yes OK. Obviously I am a little obsessive about this. Never mind.

MrsDimmond · 06/07/2019 14:28

I get the whole "clean sheet" joy, and would be irritated to have that crispness spoilt by someone snuggling down on my pristine bed linen before I got that pleasure.

But, it would have nothing to do with what they were wearing!!

I have no idea what issues there are with lying in / on bedding wearing 'clean' day clothes Confused

mrsm43s · 06/07/2019 14:28

So if you DD, wants to lay on her bed and read a book after school, she has to change into her pyjamas first? How odd!

My DD and her friend are currently lolling around on her bed listening to music and chatting - in their clothes! Neither of my children have space for sofas or armchairs in their rooms, so I can't see how on earth it would work if they weren't allowed to sit on their beds if not in PJs! I've literally never heard of anyone with that rule!

I love the feel of getting into clean sheets when the beds have been changed, but usually the cats get there first!

Gazelda · 06/07/2019 14:28

There is no nicer feeling than climbing into a freshly made up bed, after having had a bath and hair wash and in clean nightwear. (I wear nothing but knickers in bed, but that's prob best for another thread).

But I can't agree on the outdoor clothing thing on days other than bed change day. I often sit on the bed in clothes I've worn to work, or have a cheeky nap on a Saturday afternoon in clothes I've been wearing earlier in the day.

But yes, no lounging on the bed in clothes on New Bedlinen Day.

katewhinesalot · 06/07/2019 14:29

I have to admit I would lie on the bed, but not in the bed with clothes on that I've worn to sit on chairs etc outside the house. Soft furnishings/restaurant seats etc don't get cleaned often, so I feel I would be bringing muck into my bed. Having said that, I'm not a once a week sheet changer so it's not as if I'm overly fussed about cleanliness.

I also have an aversion to the throw things in hotel rooms.

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 14:29

Mrs m in not on. I mixed that up earlier by accident.
On your bed, fine.
In your bed, nighr clothes only please.
It seems I am in a minority but am not going to change.

Just when I thought there was nothing left to shock me on Mumsnet, I discover that not lying on your bed in outdoor clothes was a thing Shock Actually, scratch that, I didn't even know that people had separate indoor and outdoor clothes!

katewhinesalot · 06/07/2019 14:30

I think some posters are getting confused - the op is talking about sitting on the clean bed sheet that has no duvet on top of it. I don't think the op would worry about anyone sitting on a made up bed.

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 14:31

We don't. I've explained all this.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 14:32

For anyone who cares iabu
I've apologised to DD who does not seem traumatised.
I am clearly a bit silly when it comes to clean sheets.
I am sorry.

WindsweptEgret · 06/07/2019 14:32

Do you get back from the park, rolling around on the grass and then sit on your bed, on the bottom sheet, to read a book? Yes. I'm not going to change into my pyjamas mid afternoon so I can have a quiet read in my bedroom Confused.

Decormad38 · 06/07/2019 14:32

Oh dear op! You sound like you have become fixated by things in life that don't matter. I propose you sit down and re read this and then remember the people in boats struggling to escape the wars and destruction. That will sort your problem possibly!

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 14:33

in your bed though?
I do find it really interesting, I don't think I know anyone who would do this.

OP posts:
Userplusnumbers · 06/07/2019 14:33

Oh dear OP, this one has revealed yet another aspect to the great MN bedding debate - you should be pleased to have covered an angle never covered before though!

I think you are being a bit weird and unusual, I often stop for a rest halfway through making the bed and will lie on the clean sheet I've just put on in my 'outdoor clothes' that I may have even been to a supermarket in!!

Tiredmum100 · 06/07/2019 14:33

YANBU. Nothing better than getting into a nice fresh bed. So I totally get where you're coming from.. I wouldn't lye on my bed sheets with the clothes I've had on all day still on. I do lye on the bed if the duvet is pulled over though. The day the clean sheets are put on I always try to get up to bed before DH so I can have the clean fresh feeling to myself it really annoys me if he gets in before me. Never admitted that out loud before.

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 14:33

Decormad38 really? What am utterly stupid post. Go and do something more important. I'm quite happy whiling away my time on mn.
