I'm cross that the clean bed luxury has been ruined

I've changed our bed today and it was overdue. I put the sheet and pillow back on but the duvet cover is a bit damp so has stayed on the airer.
I just went in to find DD lying on our bed, on the sheet in her outdoor clothes. Angry

What on earth are outside clothes - basically anything that are not jammies? Bizarre. So no one has a nap unless they have their jammies on? It’s live and let live though isn’t it - I will lie on my bed with dog and cats fully clothed and I haven’t died yet - but I respect others viewpoints on how they choose to live

mossmurray · 06/07/2019 15:03

If I won the lottery I'd have someone change my bed covers daily so I get what mean about clean sheets.
I've never stopped my DC's from sitting on their beds in their clothes though

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 15:03

Clothes which you've been outside in. Not clean on.
Apologies for the short hand. I assumed people would get it. How wrong could I be.

Air bnb is different. Other people's sweat and bodily fluids could have gone through the sheet so I'd prefer the mattress protector changed too.

Butterymuffin · 06/07/2019 15:04

Well, it's your house your rules right now. Your dilemma will come in 10 years when your DD says she isn't coming home for Christmas this year because she wants a change from all the house rules.

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 15:04

We don't really have naps. I don't enjoy them, wpuld rather go to bed earlier. My kids haven't napped since they stopped as toddlers and have never suggested they wanted to.

OP posts:
CornerofUpandDown · 06/07/2019 15:05

She's a kid and doesn't care. Let it go there are far bigger fish to fry in the kids and cleanliness battle!

Asta19 · 06/07/2019 15:05

I live in London and use public transport so I definitely have indoor and outdoor clothes! You never know what you're sitting in! Also the comfy scruffs I wear indoors wouldn't be good enough for outdoors. I always get changed when I get home, but it was the same when I was a kid, we had to have uniform off and "home" clothes on as soon as we got in.

stillmoving · 06/07/2019 15:05

She'd just had a telling off for lying on her own bed in her outdoor clothes.

Sad
StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 15:05

This has gone from light hearted and helpful to fairly unpleasant. I admitted iwbu fairly early on and confirmed DD was not traumatised. It has continued in a light hearted manner. But some people want to have a dig and it isn't helpful or constructive in any way.

silverlace · 06/07/2019 15:06

I am with you OP. I will sit on the bed if it is made, in clothes I have been outdoors in but wouldn't sit/lie under the duvet. Yuk if you have been out, sat on a bus seat or into public toilets.

I never thought I was obsessive until now but fresh bed sheets are a real luxury. I always say if I were rich enough I would pay someone to change the bed every day.

Now don't get me started on the joys of stepping out of the shower onto a fresh bathmat.....

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 15:06

Once again, telling off a bit strong. "get out of there in your outdoor clothes" was the telling off.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 15:07

And repeat and repeat.
With you on the bathmat. But that's because ours is crunchy and crispy whrn new, not all flattened. And it feels nice under my toes. Not particularly about cleanliness

Xmasbaby11 · 06/07/2019 15:10

Sorry I don't see the issue. Never heard of no clothes on the bed. I like the smell of newly washed linen but that lasts for a few days so I can't imagine a few mins making any difference.

Nellamelia · 06/07/2019 15:10

It will still feel clean when you get inside it tonight. But I get you, I'm always saying to dp to stop sitting on the bed in his manky jeans. He doesn't get it but I only like jammies or skin on my bed covers!

skybluee · 06/07/2019 15:11

I'm funny about this. I don't get into bed in outdoor clothes, I change into my sleepwear. But the reason is, often in my jeans I will sit in the park on the grass, or in a field near here on the floor, my jeans are long,go into puddles, little bits of mud might be on them, etc. So I'd feel a bit gross taking that into my bed, just like I wouldn't get into bed with my shoes on! It just feels so clean in there, so I'd only feel right in there in nightwear.

I have on the odd occasion when not feeling very well at all gotten into bed in a T shirt I was wearing in the day.

LauderSyme · 06/07/2019 15:11

When the beds get changed they get stripped back to the mattress, so mattress protectors, pillow protectors and the blankets I put over the duvets in winter get washed each time. Is that overboard?

I personally think it is excessive, yes, as the mattress and pillow protectors have been covered up and won't actually be dirty as long as nothing has been spilled (or whatever) on them. Even hotels don't do this. I would have thought a good airing was sufficient with a thorough strip and wash every other month or so.

But we all have our own neuroses and idiosyncrasies and your responses on this thread prove you to be a reasonable and well-balanced individual, so as long as the time and effort involved are worth it to you, crack on! Smile

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 15:12

Just put the duvet cover on and found grass on the sheet. I was laid back and calm.

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 15:14

Launder I know hotels don't do it qnd I wish they would :)

llangennith · 06/07/2019 15:17

@StealthPolarBear I do sympathise as I too like the feeling of clean bedding but, as you've acknowledged, you did go a bit OTT.
So maybe in future your DD is banned from lying on your bed at any time but she can relax on her own bed however and whenever she feels like it.
Her bedroom should be her sanctuary. As you want yours to be.

IncrediblySadToo · 06/07/2019 15:19

Stealth I’m with you all the way! Fresh bed linen, line dried, is THE BEST. Mine are blowing in the breeze fright now (and to whoever it was questioning how many sets of bedsheets you own I have plenty, but in this weather when mine drtying is so quick I prefer to put the freshly washed ones back on as they’re so lovely!

I’m a tad unbearable too with my fresh sheets - I don’t mind getting in together, but in bedclothes or birthday suits not ‘clothes’

As long as the DC aren’t actually grubby Lying ON their own beds is vaguely acceptable but not IN them. (I guess they’ve just somehow absorbed that over the years as none of them would - they’d get a throw if they were chilly.

Mind you I am FED UP of folding up the ‘thriws’ Around the house...no other bugger seems able to do it, or to actually ‘think’ to do it. Despite being asked nicely/reminded/bellowed at Hmm I’m going ‘throw free’ next time I feel ready to murder one of them over it!

AirBNB IF ONLY all bnb hotels etc were so particular life would be much nicer! It makes me really want to come and stay!

Yes this post became my wake up call. Time to get a life. Thank you for providing the catalyst

Thank fuck for that, it’s goid to know we won’t have to read any more of your ridiculous posts comparing daily gripes to war torn refugees in a completely irrelevant way. What a win for all of us

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 06/07/2019 15:20

@StealthPolarBear I am with you!! Nothing nicer. And hate other ppl on my bed making it all warm and icky.
I want clean, cool, crisp sheets to get in to.
I read that when Jackie Kennedy was the First Lady she had her bed changed twice a day-once before her afternoon nap and again for clean nights sleep. My idol Star

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 15:21

DD has just been in the shower and has come for a bounce and roll about on my bed :) all is good

OP posts:
GreyBird84 · 06/07/2019 15:21

I’m with you OP.
If I go to the bother of changing the bedclothes I want to be the one to experience the freshness & newness for the first night....not one of my grubby little darlings in their outdoor clothes.

GoFiguire · 06/07/2019 15:24

I make my children sleep in a hammock as I can’t bear them to muss their beds.
