I'm cross that the clean bed luxury has been ruined

I've changed our bed today and it was overdue. I put the sheet and pillow back on but the duvet cover is a bit damp so has stayed on the airer.
I just went in to find DD lying on our bed, on the sheet in her outdoor clothes. Angry

And I bet you are all also the people who are killing the planet by doing crazy shit like washing towels after one use.

Erm that's a no from me... I'm clean at the point I get out of the shower and use a towel, so said towel doesn't need washing after every use.

That's completely different from bringing grub from out and about into the house and plonking it on a nice clean bed. I just like to know my bed doesn't have remnants of public transport yuck, mud from a walk, food I've dropped etc.

ToftyAC · 08/07/2019 05:58

Quite honestly OP I think you’re a bit bonkers. You told your kid off for that? Jesus.

@LadyBahBahBah Grin the funniest comment I’ve read all day!!

Saltystraw · 08/07/2019 06:14

I love the clean sheet sleep! So nice!

bellinisurge · 08/07/2019 06:14

I have an exemption for cats. My cat used to love "helping me" to change the bed. But otherwise I wouldn't like anyone to go near a fresh bed until bedtime. And I know it's a bit irrational Grin

ParadiseLaundry · 08/07/2019 06:35

Cats are clean though!

They wash their entire bodies several times a day they including their feet and smell nice and clean therefore they should be exempt from the no outdoor clothes on the bed rule!

bellinisurge · 08/07/2019 06:38

My feelings exactly @ParadiseLaundry . Even when she cleans her arse while on my bed. After the aforementioned "helping "

Deadposhtory · 08/07/2019 06:42

I'm with you op. We don't allow lying on the bed in outdoor clothes either and change as soon as we get home and school uniform off!

Deadposhtory · 08/07/2019 06:44

Snorted my tea at ladybahbahbah**

busyhonestchildcarer · 08/07/2019 07:50

I suppose the bigger issue is that you get worked up about such small issues.Maybe you need to consider the really important stuff people have to deal with like do they have a home to go to,food to eat .Stop fretting the small stuff or how will you cope when she really misbehaves? I was constantly critisized as a child and there are no happy memories for me.Chill!!

TigerTooth · 08/07/2019 08:09

I think sitting on the bed in outdoor clothes is normal - it’s where they sit to play and where their friends sit when they come round.
To get in the bed - on the sheets in clothes would not be a great issue for me if the clothes were clean but if they’d been out playing or to school and then got IN the bed - yes I’d tell them not to do that.
Your DD probably didn’t realise that the duvet wasn’t on and thought she was on the top cover.
Maybe invest in some lovely bedspreads? Mine are gorgeous pip studio ones (although birds of paradise maybe a bit chintzy for some), they get taken off every night but keep all the bedding immaculate all day.

TigerTooth · 08/07/2019 08:10

BTW - Animals on beds is just disgusting imo.

NaturalBornWoman · 08/07/2019 08:45

The lick themselves! All over! They clean themselves with saliva from their mouths which they also use for eating meat and killing things. If you get bitten by a cat it's extremely likely to get infected because their mouths are so bacteria ridden. They lick their feet, and their genitalia and their fur. They aren't clean and I cannot understand how anyone would tolerate them on their beds or furniture.

Anyway, OP you are entirely reasonable. Outdoor clothing should not be in or on beds at all, but especially on your fresh sheets that you were looking forward to. Banish the child until she can learn to be civilised I say! Grin

TheRedBarrows · 08/07/2019 08:50

Anyone with bad hay fever or allergies will know that lying in your bed in clothes where you have been in fields, gardens or sitting on someone’s cat-inhabited sofa will lead to an uncomfortable night.

MzHz · 08/07/2019 08:53

Thing is OP, this is your bed, your room and you’ve put it the way you like it. She knows that you don’t like outside clothes on the bed and whether that is weird or not, it’s your boundary.

She shouldn’t be in your room at all tbh. What she’s done is disrespectful.

Booboo66 · 08/07/2019 09:12

I guess you anbu to feel the way you do about your own bed although just sitting on the bed isn’t the same as taking a several hour nap. You’ll still have the crisp sheets. Enforcing that on DD though is odd. I see no harm at all in her going to sit on her own bed in (clean) outdoor clothes. Don’t project it on to her

gamesanddaisychains · 08/07/2019 09:56

@LadyBahBahBah

"My cat is lying on my bed in his outdoor fur the bastard"

Jeannie5252 · 08/07/2019 10:23

Have seen me so exhausted sometimes , that I just take my bra off for comfort and collapse into bed! With my day clothes on! But these are on clean every day.

manicmij · 08/07/2019 10:35

Do you never sit on your bed with clothing other than pyjamas on? Bed not ruined but DD needs a talking to about being told not to do so on her own bed and then doing it on your bed. Such action obviously upsets you.

EllenMP · 08/07/2019 11:12

I have never heard of anyone not being allowed to lie in or on a bed in clothes. That's very persnickety IMO. A bed with just a bottom sheet on it is an irresistible temptation, especially if you are tired from playing in the park. I don't see how your daughter could have resisted in. Let her be. The sheet is still clean ad YABU.

I often lie down in my outdoor clothes! Maybe she had been working very hard and needed a break.Totally understandable.

Louise841417 · 08/07/2019 14:31

Now please don’t take this the wrong way but....
You’ve most definitely made me feel a lot better about myself! I’m house proud and have been feeling guilty about nagging the kids and hubby about tidying up after themselves. But for lying down on a bed!!! Jesus Come on now!
Maybe you need a night out with the girls to loosen yourself up a bit!

Sozzler · 08/07/2019 14:56

Wowzers, I am actually speechless that someone is affected by something this trivial to the extent that they have to vent on Mumsnet. Personally, I'm just grateful that me and my family have beds and get to live in sanitary conditions. Talk about 1st World problems.
