It's an 11 year old (born male) ice skater. There's a little video where to me she looks female.

I daren't put this on the feminism board, but AIBU to think that in 20 years time we will look back in shame at how we have treated transgendered individuals?

I just put myself in those shoes for 5 hours. What on earth would I think? How much hate would I feel? How fucked up/strange/weird would I feel?

I have a very uneasy feeling in my soul about the vociferous opposition to transgenderism on MN currently. It doesn't sit comfortably with me.

I came across this story just now and it's typical of I suppose what the feminist MNers want transgender people to face. I.e. that they can't...

Should she compete as a girl? Or AIBU?

Like others, I think we'll look back in shame at how we let gender stereotypes and homophobia dictate how children describe themselves.

Women and men are physically different. No amount of PC feels will ever change that.

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 02/07/2019 02:39

Also, I can't stand posters like you who come here in bad faith.

You don't want a discussion. You want your views propped up. That didn't happen so now we are hate filled and talking shite.

You don't have to agree with us. But don't pretend you want a discussion when you don't.

There is no hatred. There is common sense, and a justifiable pinch of annoyance at your rather offensive attempt to co-opt Rosa Parks and the struggle for civil rights into your completely incoherent argument.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 02/07/2019 02:42

I'm wondering whether OP has been drinking. A lot of hand wringing and hyperbole going on there plus an early flounce.

Anothertempusername · 02/07/2019 02:43

11 year olds have no business identifying as anything other than 11 year olds, IMO.

BitOfFun · 02/07/2019 02:44

Oh, and I'm also irritated at your "I'd probably self-harm" emotional blackmail too.

Cassort · 02/07/2019 02:45

The implied suggestion here is that these kids (this one is 11) are deliberately feigning the female gender in order to achieve at sports.
No? That's not what you're saying?
Well why are they wanting to compete in the female category then?

Cassort · 02/07/2019 02:46

Yes, I have been drinking. I'm identifying as a man. That a problem?

Oh dear 😂🙈

Cassort · 02/07/2019 02:49

How old are ye? Or where the hell do ye come from? Because it reads like I've woken up in the days of yore....

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 02/07/2019 02:51

...why are they wanting to compete in the female category then?

Probably because they have been brain-washed by gullible wokesters, or (worse) by parents with a desperate need for attention bordering on Munchausens by proxy.

aurynne · 02/07/2019 02:53

Cassort, the child may identify as a girl but is still male in all biological aspects. Why don't the parents fight so she competes in the male category dressed as a girl?

Oliversmumsarmy · 02/07/2019 02:54

In order for a boy to compete in the girls category means that one girl will not get to compete.

If this boy cannot compete in his own category then why should he take a girls space.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 02/07/2019 02:59

TRAs describe any opposition to their agenda as hatred. People assume that there must be hatred at first. When they notice that TRAs rarely talk about actual hatred (physical attacks, discrimination in housing and employment) but direct their constant rage almost exclusively at women who challenge them, however politely and factually, they often reconsider the whole issue.

Because the insistence that TWAW and that there can be no debate is to conceal that gender ideology is a house of cards. It really is Emperor's New Clothes stuff.

EileenAlanna · 02/07/2019 03:03

"I'm talking about transexual females" no, you're talking about transgender. There are very, very few transsexuals. The majority of transgenders - around 85/90% - keep their fully working male genitalia & demand that everybody calls penises female genitalia. The main problem arising with this stance is that virtually the entire human race knows & acknowledges that that is batshit level crazy. Effeminate men, gay men, any category of men is perfectly fine for them to fall into, what they never fall into is the category of women.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/07/2019 03:10

Oh dear OP.

Yabu. Very very.

BitOfFun · 02/07/2019 03:15

If your "heart goes out to" this little boy over the issue of him competing in a skating competition, may I ask how you feel about him being put onto off-label drugs which will put him onto a path which may end in sexual dysfunction and sterility, because he has the misfortune to be born at a time when the adults around him would rather medicate him than accept him as a child who enjoys spangles and dressing up?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 02/07/2019 03:27

I'm glad CarolDanvers posted that link to Ben's article - it very neatly explains why transwomen should not be allowed to compete as women.

It's a complex situation but the rush to allow male-bodied transwomen to compete against female-bodied women is not the answer.

It might seem "othering" to have a transcategory - but it's no different in reality to having paralympics, for e.g., or special olympics - they would be competing in an arena where others with similar characteristics are competing.

Nothing anyone can do or say at this time can change human biology from male to female. We're not frogs or fish. So there is no point in pretending that it's fair for male-bodied individuals, however they identify, to compete against female-bodied individuals.

BitOfFun · 02/07/2019 03:48

Yep, that sums it up very neatly, Thumbwitch. No hate required, just logic.

StoppinBy · 02/07/2019 03:52

I consider myself pretty open but this is a big no from me. Biologically males and females are different and expecting females to be ok with competing against someone who has a more natural given to be stronger and faster is not on.

You are very wrong in this in my opinion.

HennyPennyHorror · 02/07/2019 04:01

At the moment she looks like a girl and could probably compete at the same level. But that's because she's only 11. When she hits 14 or so, unless she transitions completely before then, she will be much stronger than a girl of the same age.

There's a trans girl in my DD's class. They're all 11 and currently, she looks exactly the same as dd and her mates on sports day...but in a few years, without medication etc. She'll be much faster.

Aquamarine1029 · 02/07/2019 04:02

FFS. This child is male and will always be male, regardless of how he chooses to identify himself, or how many surgeries he chooses to have. YABVVU.

isabellerossignol · 02/07/2019 04:07

I just don't know how I'd deal with a child of my own who was transgender

The kindest thing a parent could do in this situation is to seek help. The sort of help that helps the child accept that they can not and will never be the opposite sex. Not the sort that carries out a social and irreversible medical experiment on them.

By your logic, any parent of an anorexic teenager who believes she is overweight should be helping her lose weight, instead of helping her recover. After all, she truly believes that she is overweight...

Justsaynonow · 02/07/2019 04:07

I support this child's right to compete in the men's competition wearing whatever costumes they want and calling themselves whatever name they choose. They should never be allowed to participate in the women's competition.
Absolutely agree. My kids were competitive skaters and there was a huge difference is skill development between DS and DDs. No way would it be fair for a boy to compete with girls. While girls (especially the Russians) are starting to land quads, the mens' competitions are dominated by multiple quads.
