To think you're all milling around in the middle of your living room to The Cure

There were numerous grumbles about Stormzy and even more about The Killers (did anyone see Jimmy Carr sweeping the stage?)

Complete radio silence about The Cure, though.

I gave up after four songs. It was probably great for real fans, but didn't draw me in. I felt a bit sad too, looking at his hair and makeup.

TheInebriati · 30/06/2019 22:21

The Cure played Glastonbury? Blimey. Robert Smith must be completely wizened and about 4' tall by now.

EmperorBallpitine · 30/06/2019 22:22

Its still on TV. He is not wizened. Ahem. Seems quite unwizened.

PickAChew · 30/06/2019 22:23

Very unwizened!

And phenomenal.

I love a bit of Cure, my foot's going but I can't say I'm up to milling around in my living room.

BringOnTheScience · 30/06/2019 22:24

It's not been the best set so far. V slow start. Only just got to playing some of the better known stuff and none of the really big hits yet.
It's just on in the background.

Soontobe60 · 30/06/2019 22:25

I'm nòw chair dancing as the classics are playing

DisputedChair · 30/06/2019 22:25

They are still brilliant. I am a mildly tiddled puddle of nostalgia. Plus I just realised I saw them live 25 years ago.

Hassled · 30/06/2019 22:26

I'm loving it, but I'm way too decrepit to get off the sofa and do any milling. Rob's not lost his voice with age though, has he? And he doesn't look 60. He needs to hurry up with Friday I'm In Love before I have to go to bed (saddest thing I think I've ever typed).

PeoniesarePink · 30/06/2019 22:26

Soundtrack to my teenage years. They are still very very good musicians. Loving it!!

Letthemysterybe · 30/06/2019 22:26

I love blasting out The Cure and dancing around my kitchen, but I’ve not been up dancing tonight.

Marilynmansonsthermos · 30/06/2019 22:26

I love the cure's music, but they are not great to watch live! Robert Smith looked like he had been dug up!

sackrifice · 30/06/2019 22:28

I love them - have done since i heard Primary in the very early 80s...but come on lads, people want hits on the last night at Glastonbury...I got bored waiting so came up and am in the bath.

Herefortheduration · 30/06/2019 22:28

I've never been a Cure fan but I think they're doing great and the crowd are loving it, lots of people in their 20's rocking it. Different strokes for different folks n'all that.

corlan · 30/06/2019 22:29

Now I'm trying to work out if Robert Smith's been at the Botox. His face is very smooth for 60.
Having been bitchy about his looks,I think his voice is still really good.

LoopyGremlin · 30/06/2019 22:29

He’s a great singer though...unlike Kylie (as much as I like her she’s terrible live Grin)

PickAChew · 30/06/2019 22:29

Yeah, there's just been a few peak hits era tracks. It was a slow start. Halfway through, though, now.

I'm playing a game, every time it pans to the audience, of enthusiastic Newby or original. It's not hard to recognise a fellow 50-ish.

PickAChew · 30/06/2019 22:32

I tried to work out if botox was involved, but it's just stretched, I think.

megletthesecond · 30/06/2019 22:34

I'm not. My TV Glastonbury has finished for 2019 now.

The older I get the less I like music from my youth. Reminds me of getting older.

Mascarponeandwine · 30/06/2019 22:34

@LoopyGremlin I saw Kylie last weekend and she was great live, could really sing. Tonight’s tv coverage didn’t do her justice at all.

(disclaimer:unless you’re at glasto in the crowd in which case maybe her voice is having an off day Grin)

PickAChew · 30/06/2019 22:36

I think Kyle's performance was always more about the flirt than the voice.

OP posts:
PickAChew · 30/06/2019 22:38

meglet I've rediscovered lots of stuff from the 80s and 90s that I either ignored or missed, first time around, because I wasn't in the right place for them.

OP posts:
Chune · 30/06/2019 22:40

I think the crowd are enjoying them. Roberts voice is incredible though. If you close your eyes, he could be 27 still.

EleanorOalike · 30/06/2019 22:40

The problem with Kylie wasn’t her singing technique, it was the style of microphone (super cardoid I think) she used and poor microphone technique. It was only picking up when she held it very close and up towards to her mouth, and quite often she was holding it too far away and down. It should have been rectified in sound check, I don’t know what the technicians were thinking.

I feel bad to admit that I’m not entirely sure who The Cure are...Blush

RandomNameChange415 · 30/06/2019 22:40

His voice is absolutely fantastic for any age let alone 60. All the other acts I’ve watched over the weekend have had the odd shaky moment but I’ve not had that slight flinch I get from a bum note once in this entire set.

It is sometimes said that over fifty a woman has to choose whether to preserve her face or her figure. Bob has gone for the face.
