To think you're all milling around in the middle of your living room to The Cure

There were numerous grumbles about Stormzy and even more about The Killers (did anyone see Jimmy Carr sweeping the stage?)

Complete radio silence about The Cure, though.

They were amazing. Best band ever. And his voice is still so fantastic!

Rystall · 01/07/2019 00:22

They were incredible!! I’m still smiling from that. What a voice. No dancers, no massive staging, no props, just a brilliant band singing brilliant songs.......pure class!!!!

Roundtheislands · 01/07/2019 00:40

I can't sleep, songs still whirling around in my head, wonderful

sweeneytoddsrazor · 01/07/2019 01:35

I must admit his look is a bit old fashioned now but that's his look.

His look has never really been fashionable though.

EnormousDormouse · 01/07/2019 01:43

I was up the back of the field - crowd round me were loving it. Great atmosphere and his voice was excellent. We were half and half about whether to go or not in case they were crap and it spoiled our memories; now I think I'd like to see them again.

...Although I was slightly upset to calculate that the last time I saw them live was 35 YEARS AGO. How the fuck did that happen!

1forAll74 · 01/07/2019 01:56

Of course I have heard about the Cure as a group, but no nothing about them,or their music. The main singer looked quite rough, like a hobo or the like, and the guitarist with long hair looked spaced out,and couldn't stop walking round the stage all hunched up.

I decided to just have the subtitles on tv, as all the songs sounded the same, and very dreary. I did like the appearance of David Attenborough though, he looked great for 93. !!

@honeycat

set list here
www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-cure/2019/worthy-farm-pilton-england-391694b.html

Also don't know whereabouts you are but filmon at 15 euros a month standard definition is pretty good for watching stuff - with that you get 11 hours recording time - you have until 9.30pm tomorrow to subscribe (you can cancel anytime btw) and record in order to watch the coverage....you go to live tv live channels scroll down to bbc2 look for glastonbury at 10pm and press record show next to it then watch it back on my recordings (left menu head pic - my profile - recordings is 6th option down, stored 30 days. If the show has been on already after record it will say play video straight away. They also add half an hour each side just in case so you will have to forward thru to find it)

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 01/07/2019 02:13

But it has to be done before 10 pm tomorrow as you can only go back 24 hours Shamrock

Anarchyshake · 01/07/2019 02:17

@PickAChew they will never do better than when they had Bloodhound Gang on, IMHO.

I broke into the festival that year, I was around 18.

Not my kind of festival. I prefer the ones where Pop Will Eat Itself, Carter USM, James, Levellers and various old and new industrial and cyber Goth bands play. That's two different kinds of festival, they don't play the industrial and cyber stuff with James.

Honeyroar · 01/07/2019 03:23

Thank you @RageAgainstTheVendingMachine (your user name always makes me laugh by the way) that's a great set list page. I'm home on Tuesday, and hopefully my husband will have recorded it, if not it will be on iplayer. I've spent a lovely hour playing that playlist already.

I can understand what a few non Cure fans were saying about it being samey - a lot of tracks (especially early on) were from Disintegration, which was a bit dull (Lovesong, Lullaby and Pictures of You aside), mixed in with some other slower, atmospheric tracks (such as On a Night Like This, one of my all time favourites) I think it was a slowish start, which may have put people off. But some really great stuff after that. I'd have loved Touch and Fire in Cairo for real perfection.

All those type of bands have played glasto.

Chimpd0g · 01/07/2019 07:45

I only saw the last half hour (will have to iplayer) but absolutely loved it. I was a huge Cure fan and went to see them in 1989 (30 years ago!!). Brought back so many memories of a very happy time in my life (when i was a goth Grin).

I welled up at the end, he looked so genuinely moved and humbled. So happy for him/them.

Ferfeckssake · 01/07/2019 07:47

Neolara I totally agree. While it is great to go on a nostalgia trip, it can also be quite disheartening.
Thought it was a great set. But listened at times with my eyes closed and yes, his voice was great. But I wanted Robert and I to return to our youthful selves.Grin

And realised that most of the songs I listened to on my WALKMAN!ConfusedShock

Slatkater · 01/07/2019 07:50

I can beat you all........I first saw them 40 years ago! 😱😱. Small back room in a hotel in 1979.

Honeyroar · 02/07/2019 23:33

I’m home and watching it now. Loving it! RS’s voice and the music hasn’t aged a bit.

We are giggling at the guitarist and how stooped he is (as remarked by a critic down thread). Perhaps someone put the wrong guitar strap on for him and it was for someone really tall, or perhaps his guitar is really heavy??!!

Honeyroar · 02/07/2019 23:36

Ps Slatkater how fab that must have been. Didn’t they always end up as battles in those days? I read Lol’s autobiography last year..

Lifebi · 02/07/2019 23:51

I quite like the Cure but have never bought any of their records.
Is there a particular Cure album that you guys would recommend or should I just get the greatest hits CD?

Honeyroar · 03/07/2019 00:18

There are loads of great albums, but Standing on Beach (best of album) would give you a lot of classics.

choosechilli · 04/07/2019 18:42

Just watched this on the iplayer. I thought they were amazing, but I'd liked them to have included Lovecats, Charlotte Sometimes, Let's Go To Bed and The Kiss. I suppose the sign of a brilliant band is when they can leave songs out though.
